There were two limited colors of unfun and there is a black that is still available.
-
well I really like how part of the cover has a gloss and the rest is matte.
-
ah.
my OG yellow looks NM but sound-wise it is really VG/VG-, lots of surface noise in any quiet section, esp on b-side...i've tried cleaning it multiple ways but that stuff is ground in there good...
so i was considering looking for a better copy....
but i'm also hoping MoV does a reissue or that w/ the new album coming out that reissues are in the works...
what is the famous 320 stamper? i'm out of the loop on the famous...
At the end of the matrix numbers in the deadwax it has the numbers 320. Im not an expert on it, but there were a series of masters done in germany of some famous 90's stuff that has 320 in it and some people think they are really well done. The most famous is the version of In Utero, which has the original albini mix of the singles.
This record should be a 2xlp.; Nearly 60 minutes of awesomeness should not be put on one lp
2 LP 45RPM please.

Go to newegg and check out their awesome prices on Polk Audio.

There is a legit Euro release that is still available. It is vanilla packaging with what appears to be, blown-up cd art work with no insert. The OG had different back cover art and an insert. A legit new copy will have the famous 320 stamper in the matrix. Some people think just because it has 320 that it's great. I think my OG yellow copy's SQ is much better than my euro reissue, but the OG also seems to suffer from a bit more inner groove distortion than the more recent press.

I got an email from TR saying the colored copies are delayed. I had an order through amazon that shipped on time though. Didn't want to order two, but I was lazy and didn't cancel the amazon before it shipped. I thought it was delayed so I didn't rush to cancel.
-
That is correct.
I was curious about that so i checked and found this:
In 1992, RIAA began counting each disc in a multi-disc set as one unit toward certification. That's pretty much bull crap, but whatever.
Back on topic, so It looks like the LPs are coming with the books and the slipcase as well. That's cool. I'm not really into paying for elaborate packaging, but for some reason I don't mind for this release.

I haven't had a chance to check this out but the cover looks great. Why is this album listed under singles/EPs on Discogs?
-
If anybody loves this album, suck it up and pay the price. It will be worth it whether you listen to it or keep it safe and sell it later.

The Sam's Town picture disc sounds like crap. I have one. The first time through I thought it was passable, but I went back and It was bad the second time through. Mine has lots of surface noise, and while it sounds like there is some space and dynamics, the entire things sounds like a poor quality copy. Like someone recorded a good sounding record with a microphone and pressed it on noisy vinyl.
Others experience may differ, but that is mine.

The second run through this album has been much better than the first time through. But unlike most, I love Holly Wood. The vocals are a bit jarring at first, but I've listened to that song a few times, and the only bad thing is that it's so short.

Bullmoose is not a sketchy site.

according to Elusive Disc, which was only partially quoted earlier, Vlado Meller is doing the remaster. Yes, that Vlado, AKA Vlad the Impaler. Some of his most recent work includes the imfamously horrible Icky Thump CD/digital master. To be fair he is well respected in the industry and we have to understand that mastering engineer is a job, and if your boss tells you to do it a certain way, that's how you do it. Regardless, I remain skeptical but hopeful that it will be done right.I don't have this LP, but I don't think I'd go for anything but a first pressing. Robert Ludwig claims it is his favorite thing he's ever mastered. And if you've ever heard any of his work, you can imagine exactly how amazing something like RATM would sound with his signature touch.
With that said, it is nice that they are going back to the OG tapes for the remastering. I applaud them for that. I imagine they'll get someone like Chris Bellman or Bernie Grundman to do the mastering this time around, but if they got Ludwig to reprise his role... Wow. That would be unbelievably amazing.

IKEA sells shelves of varying lenths in their frame/picture area that are perfect for "now playing"Debating on getting one of those "records on walls" frames so i can hang the jacket of what im listening to right above the turntable.

I have to question the packing in the box. It had to have been disturbed right? It wouldn't come from Pro-ject with the tone arm flopping around in the box right? So what did that company do to cause that to happen. Was the box opened? was the TT used? If it was an amazon seller I would complain to amazon and get the shipping back.
I recently went through a sale of an LP where i ended up spending over 8 dollars to see that the seller had grossly over graded his record. That sucks. Get a full refund.

I haven't seen posts making fun of anyone for not spending thousands on their system in this thread.
When someone has a large, possibly quite expensive vinyl collection and are playing it back on something cheap or a piece of junk, it not only surprises me, but it also makes me curious as to why they feel like they shouldn't spend some money on decent playback components. This senario is no different to me than if the part of the playback chain were flipped around and a person spent thousands on a killer preamp, but had it hooked up to a ion turntable and a terrible crappy, integrated amp and a pair of crap (maybe even mismatched)speakers, and had three or four shody records thay played on it.

Awesome can certainly be relative.
I think the Carbon is defintely the best new TT under $400. Going up, the RP1 might be a better table and arm combo, but the fact that it comes with the OM5e could keep it from being worth the extra $50 for me. I would say that the Carbon is a good table, but not awesome.
I'm sure there are more people with $1000+ TT's but just don't post regularly or comment in this sub forum.
To stay on topic: Yes, start with a nice new TT. The worst it will do is out match your other parts and you can work up to it as you go. As long as you have the intention of upgrading everything over time, the source is the best place to start.

In what alternate universe (besides delusion) does this exist? So your statements here contradict each other. $500 for a whole setup is going dirt cheap. You're basically saying you are only going to spend $150 on each component. Now a decent turntable that's good will cost at least $300. That U-Turn table is unavailable and currently untested, except by some college dorks who created it. I would suggest updating piece by piece. Like, spend $400 on an awesome turntable. Then save up and drop a few hundred into a nice set of speakers. And do the same for a integrated amp or receiver. Bump up that budget, its worth it.
I do agree with the suggested course of action.

The new artwork is nice, but I liked the foil covers and hoped they would stick to the same theme for all the reissues.
-
After really liking Runaways, I was hoping this album would be more like than Sam's Town than Day and Age. I was wrong.
-
Amazon price is at $95 right now. They have also included artwork and what looks like press release text talking about the deluxe CD and the 4 LP vinyl.
-
You have a large collection with some nice titles, and you are worried about what a $150 turntable will sound like?Hmmm, well hopefully there's word soon as I'm ready to give a new turntable a shot.
good floor speakers on a budget?

Buy these.

It's at the top of your budget at $500 for the pair, but they are half price, and free shipping. DefTech makes GREAT speakers.
