I hesitated to make the comparison, but after listening to this on my home system I have to say that the parallels to Opeth are definitely there and I really like it. Kind of an American version. The super heavy mixed with slower folk/jazz atmosphere w/ clean vocals in the middle. I went ahead a preordered from Metal Blade. Give the label and band a little extra for putting out great music.

If it sounds ok and the arm looks level (or very, very close to it) then you should be ok. a 3x5 card is a great way to see how level your arm is. Carelully queue the needle onto a non spinning record and gently place the card next to the arm.
You are right, there is some wiggle room due to differences in vinyl thickness.

Checked out the song. I liked it a lot. I hope they continue the move away from the "old timey" style of breaks in their songs. That stuff was too cheesy for me.
I'm tempted to wait just a bit as well, I don't care about limited color of vinyl, but I'd hate to miss it altogether.

There is no VTA adjustment on a DebutIII. That doesn't mean that VTA is not important, but with a DebutIII you are at the mercy of your platter and cartidge. Some cartridges are more sensitive to VTA than others. How much thicker is the cork mat, and what cartridge are you using?

The carbon is compatible with the speed box, but it doesn't "need" it. A manual change can always be made.

Ah! I haven't heard that album, yet. Just the lead single which is okay. Really loving the three songs I listed above. Been listening to them over and over today.

What is WOW?I feel like Manson is getting softer. I liked the more heavy stuff. He doesnt really scream anymore. I got bored after 3 or 4 songs on this album. Maybe Golden Age just set my expectations too high. I'll try to give it another chance, but even High End Of Low only had like 4 good songs. I absolutely hate WOW. UGH! The lyrics and melody suck so much.

Tube mono blocks might be tied with a great looking TT for "coolest" looking part of a setup. Your turntable/cart are pretty "entry level" as far as audiophile type goes (I don't think entry-level is a bad word), any interest in an upgrade there?

Double 180gm w/ download card! Crazy because my preorder from Amazon was $13.99.
It also has the bonus track "You're So Vain."

This LP finally came out today. Listening now. Initial impression is meh. I liked "Slo-motion" and "Lay Down Your Arms". Both sound more Mechanical Animals (my favorite) than a lot of the stuff on the album. The super heavy "Murderers Are Getting Prettier Everyday" is a nice surprise as well. Hearing mediocre Manson reminds me of how much I like Golden Age of Grotesque.
Just initial impressions, but I usually give all my albums at least two listens.

Super disappointed that he didn't stick with the foil cover through all the reissues. Maybe the original artwork was lost or had licensing issues? Or maybe it kept the cost down on the double LP? Not a big deal, but I was really looking forward to all the foil covers.

Too bad. I knew we wen't going to get another TK, but I was hoping for at least Return of Saturn, but I guess not. Again, too bad, but as someone said above, one less album to buy.

Thanks guys. Im happy and fortunate to have gotten some great prices, both new and used, on this stuff. Just 3 years ago i had a Technics SL-Q3 with stock cart, Technics AVR, and Huge ugly, JBL floorstanding speakers. Sometimes I seem stuck up with my comments, but I think It's because the setup I had would cost someone less than a ATLP60 and sound a heck of a lot better, so I just have a hard time with anyone spending their money on junk like that.
Getting back to mono blocks, what would be the purpose besides getting more power? Form/coolness factor is definitely an OK answer here, BTW.

LOL. no way your TT is 10".
My setup:
VPI Classic1
Dynavector XX-2
Musical Surroundings Phonomena II
Audible Illusions Modulus L-1 pre
Adcom GFA-555
Vienna Acoustics Mozart Grands
Again, two 555s, while impressive, would be WAY too much at this point.

Cool. Thanks for the heads up. I think the Parallax EP from RSD2011 is the best thing they have done, so I am looking forward to this.

I just had a second thought. Space for the equipment. For me, I would have to get more shelves/stands for any additional equipment I buy. Just a thought on some addition cost you may have overlooked.
-
I have no experience with tube power amps or mono blocks. I considered getting a second GFA-555 (which i am running now) and going mono but I think it would be overkill. Not saying I wouldn't love to investigate and try tubes or mono blocks, but after spending a lot on my system last year, I think I'm set for a while.
I think my system is already well beyond my enviorment, anyway, and until I buy a house and can upgrade my listening space, I don't think I will get much improvement for upward changes. At this point my wants are: a better RCM, Better turntable and cartrige set-up and maintenence tools, and then some room treatments.

I disagree about selling the Mc. But I do think some money should be invested to bring some of the other components up closer to the level of it. If you don't intend on improving the rest of your system then that's a different story. I guess I just would not so quick to sell off a great piece of gear to buy lesser pieces. I upgraded my system piece by piece and It was a great experience, and I learned about changes in sound and set up. Luckily I had the means (and bad money sense) to do it quickly. Not everyone is so fortunate, but down the road, I would regret letting such a great piece go.

Yeah, and why is everything on the floor?

Production is nice, but songs are meh for me. Not terrible, so I'll listen a few more times and see if anything grows on me.
-
Nice! Congrats.

I had a Q3 for years before I started upgrading my setup. I gave it to a friend who is just getting into records. A solid record player.

Does anybody own this?
lulz

It's the only way his clean records can retain that "vinyl sound (pops and clicks)."
Cartridge adjustment for thicker slipmat
in Turntables & Other Audio Equipment

The Shure is a great cartridge, but it also requires the larger counterweight on the DebitIII. I seem to remember the OM5e being a lot cheaper a year ago. Around $35. But as anyone who's used one knows, It's cost is enormous in the the damage it can do to your listening experience and records.
The Shure is just that price on Amazon. There was a while there that the cartridge went for very cheap.
