As a Canadian, I'm all for supporting local record stores, but I got mine from amazon.ca for $30 CDN shipped, which is a no-brainer compared to $45-50.
-
Apologies if it's been discussed already, but anyone have the recent XL pressing, and if so, how is it?
-
Does this apply to stores in Canada?

Got notification from amazon.ca that my order will ship soon.
In fact, there are 2 left in stock as of right now. Act fast if you need this!

Great album, but there has been a reissue widely available for a while now. I think it goes in and out of print quickly because it sells so well, but they constantly press more.

Got mine. Kinda surprised these are still available.

anyone receive this yet?

Check Discogs.com, the answer should be there.

The closer jacket from 2007 is so flimsy, wonder if they made it a bit thicker
I bought my Rhino pressing of Closer brand new about 3 or 4 years ago, and the jacket is pretty sturdy on mine. I wonder if there have been different jackets/pressings of the Rhino LP over the years?

i MIGHT have just worked around a way to order it as a Canadian.. fingers crossed!
Please do share...

Mine comes with two printed inner sleeves and a download card, the vinyl feels solid and heavy.

The image of Still and Substance on Popmarket shows that they are both gatefolds, but when I saw them at my local shop, only Substance was a gatefold.
I just got Substance, mine isn't a gatefold.

Stars Of The Lid re-presses of The Tired Sounds & Refinement of The Decline coming soon on Kranky (announced on FB)
Where exactly on FB did you read this? I didn't see it on the Kranky page.

I can't speak for Substance...But stay away from the RHINO pressings...
Why? I heard the Rhino pressings were supposed to be good?

Woah, would love to get my hands on the *** releases if possible.

I think they were only obligated to send you the record when you paid for it, nothing else. Most labels would consider your comment and follow through but that doesn't mean they ever have to. Sure, you can send an e-mail asking what gives and for them to replace/reimburse but they certainly don't have to do so.
Fair enough. I emailed them to see if they are willing to do anything, waiting for a reply.

Just wondering what you guys think of this scenario.
You order a record from a EU dealer (who use flimsy mailers) and specifically ask them in the "comments" section of the order to remove the LP from the sleeve prior to shipping to prevent any seam splits. They ship the LP inside the sleeve and don't remove it from the sleeve as I requested. The LP arrives, and guess what? huge seam split on the sleeve!
I know buying records online is a bit of a gamble when it comes to possible damage and whatnot, and I'm ok with letting some stuff go, but since I specifically requested for them to remove the LP from the sleeve, should the store/dealer possibly reimburse me or replace the copy? what do you think?

Such a bummer that Bullmoose not only won't ship to Canada, but won't even accept Canadian credit cards (if I get it sent to a friend in the USA).

In the right setting/environment/venue, this band can be phenomenal live. I've seen them live 4 times (twice back in the day, twice recently) and it has ranged from pretty decent/ok (crappy audience/crappy venue) to almost life-changing.
The best time was back in the day in 2000 right around when Skinny Fists came out. That show was pure bliss. And yes, their sound has changed over the years. I found them to be somewhat cleaner sounding back in the day, but at the same time also a bit "bigger" as well, more symphonic in a way, maybe because they had a cellist back then as well. Now as mentioned in this thread, it seems a bit more distorted, a bit looser, and a bit more raw.

Skinny Fists is their masterpiece IMHO. What makes it so great is that you get all these different styles/moods/sounds over the course of the album that are all intertwined beautifully into this epic double album. I personally love field recordings, tape loops, found sounds etc. If all they did was rock out, or do the loud/soft thing for two hours that would get tiresome. While I do think Yanqui is a great, (and better than the last two albums) my criticism of it is that it is a bit too lengthy and not that varied. But with that said, it's still a great album.
