  1. Is there actually no bass guitar in that song? Vega plays a 6-string Fender in the video, which is rather irritating. But maybe Carpenters 38-string Djent-axe makes up for the lack of common low-end..

You can easily mimic traditional bass tones with that Fender Bass VI that he's playing.

  2. I'm kinda glad he doesn't though, because that's a huge part of the Deftones sound. They play these dark, brutal riffs and somehow still manage that dreamy sound. It's an amazing juxtaposition that really works in their favor imo.

For sure, but I feel like the brutal riffs can be toned down a bit and they would still not only sound heavy, but also still sound like the Deftones. I'm guessing that's where the clash in the band is, the band wants to tone it down a bit, but Steph just wants heavy riffs ALL the time.

  3. Good interview with Steph on the new record and the sound diversity clash.

That's not saying that you're going to leave the Deftones, is it?

"I would never leave the band that I started but the band started leaving me, I can't control that."

Also Warner Switz put up tracklist times: http://www.warnermusic.ch/catalogue_detail-n28-i93624926481-sD.html

It's funny ever since White Pony came out I remember reading interviews with these guys saying how Chino wants to push the band into new territory and become dreamier and less heavy, and Steph just wants bang out brutal guitar riffs, and how they clashed. I'm a bit surprised that this tension is still present after almost 20 years. Nothing against Steph, but I would of hoped that after all this time he would of grown and progressed with the band and be willing to try new and different things, instead of wanting to play metal riffs all the time.

  4. The only time I seem get damaged jackets are when they're sent in those frustration-free, easy open mailers. Lots of bigger labels seem to be switching over to them, obviously because they make packing records way easier due to not having to tape stuff, but they are a poor substitute for the standard mailer.

While they're not perfect, I've actually had good luck with those mailers, at least the ones Amazon is using. I'd rather take one of those vs a standard mailer with little to no extra packing/padding inside, which some sellers/labels seem to still be doing, sadly.

  5. So, 30 minutes of less than inspired music, half of which is recycled material. Should have been a digital release at most, but whatever.

At least now I can stop expecting them to top Monoliths, and keep hoping for White 1 & 2 reissues.

Agree with all of this. Sadly, other than Monoliths which was 6+ years ago, I can't remember the last O))) release that really floored me,
