  1. Maybe I just wasn't paying close enough attention, but aren't all these versions on 40 OZ.? My friend played me his cassette (opened for them with his band Patch back in the day and exchanged albums) and it was a cool experience but it sounded identical to the songs on 40 oz.

These songs are pretty much identical on Jah and 40 Oz:

    DJ's

    Badfish

    Let's Go Get Stoned

    New Song

    Live at E's

These songs/versions are not on 40 Oz:

    Had a Dat

    Don't Push

    Ball & Chain

    Slow Ride

Date Rape (version exclusive to Jah)

What I wish they would have done was re-compile the 88-91 era songs rather than re-create a Jah release. Leave out any songs/versions that were on the mainstream release of 40 oz, pick out the best stuff. Basically a combination of tracks from Second Hand Smoke and Everything Under The Sun, but much more organized. Something like this...

Sublime - The Early Years ('88 to '91)

    1. Roots of Creation

    2. Perfect World

    3. Chick On My Tip

    4. Romeo

    5. New Realization

    6. Had A Dat

    7. Slow Ride

    8. Trenchtown Rock

    9. Get Out!

    10. Johnny Too Bad

    11. Ball and Chain (EUTS)

    12. Smoke Two Joints (EUTS)

    13. Don't Push (SHS)

    14. Date Rape (EUTS or Jah)

    15. Ebin (EUTS)

For whatever reason, a lot of Sublime fans just want re-creations of every old release. Collectors want represses for the green and clear date rape vinyl release, which would be such a waste.

    - been a long time since i held this tape. thanks still goes out to the one mr. brett of bad religion and epitaph records. this is the demo we produced at westbeach to try to get signed on Epitaph Records. original 1/2" master tape being used to create a new hi-res master to cut vinyl for "robbin the hood" tapes still in pristine shape! mh -
  3. These pretty much cover The Get Up Kids discography right?

    Four Minute Mile
Two EPs (Red Letter Day and Woodson)
    Something To Write Home About
    Eudora
    On A Wire
    Guilt Show
    Simple Science
    There Are Rules

Other than these 12 inch LP's, are there any other Get Up Kids records that are "must haves"? I'm basically avoiding any 7 inch and 10 inch releases.

On a side note, I know there are tons of demos, b-sides, and "unreleased" recordings out there. Any chance the band would consider putting out "Eudora Volume 2" or something of the sort?
  4. Just ordered 4MM and Woodson from Doghouse.  Thanks for posting that it was back.

Doghouse is sold out now of 4MM :-(

I'm hoping to find a copy of the release that has both the Red Letter Day and Woodson EP's on it. It would be much more convenient together on a 12 inch LP rather than getting Red Letter Day, Woodson, and New Found Mass on separate 10 inch/7 inch releases.

  5. what understanding do you have that makes you think powered monitors are any more accurate than passive?

I think he meant to compare the BX5's to other powered speakers.

Also, speaking for myself, my Yamaha RX-V592 Receiver has rca outputs for power speakers and a subwoofer, and it features a phono input too. I can run the BX5's without needing too much bass coming out of them, and have the subwoofer cover any really low end.

I tried previously to set up passive speakers with my receiver, but it was a bit of a hassle (the amplifier within the Receiver would not give me a stereo sound, it turned everything into surround sound). I got some cheap powered speakers a while back that worked fine through the rca outputs, but they have too much bass and treble, and sound a little too harsh.

I didn't buy the receiver, it used to be my parents', but they had no use for it anymore. Rather than attempt to sell it, or just purchase a pre-amp, I thought I'd put it to good use and try to build my set up around it. I thought that with a good turntable (Debut Carbon DC), good powered speakers (M-Audio BX5's), a run of the mill subwoofer (Sony SA W2500), I should get good use out of the receiver. The receiver may not be considered high-end, but would it  limit me from getting an "entry-level audiophile" sound from my setup?

  6. Just ordered a pair of M-Audio BX5 monitors for $149 from Sam Ash's Black Friday sale (Guitar Center has them for the same price but they had sold out online). Amazon has only one pair in stock priced at $319.99.

    http://www.samash.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product2_10001_10051_3461278_-1____ProductDisplayErrorView

Also, sucks that turntablelab changed the discount from 20% to 10%. Nevertheless, i ordered this Pro-ject Debut Carbon DC for $404.10, rather than paying $449 for it. They had sold out of the regular Debut Carbon. I figured it was worth it to get the Debut Carbon DC from turntablelab with the discount rather than paying $399 anywhere else for the regular Debut Carbon.

    http://turntablelab.com/products/pro-ject-debut-carbon-dc-turntable-gloss-black

Couldn't find a thread on it, but they did a good job explaining the differences between the Debut Carbon and the Debut Carbon DC here: http://turntablelab.com/pages/the-difference-between-pro-ject-debut-carbon-debut-and-carbon-dc-turntables

So my new Turntable and Speakers ran at $553.10.

Without the discounts, had I gone with Amazon, I would have spent $768.99 on the same items.

  7. Lets get one thing straight, there needs to be proper vinyl pressing of a few of Sublime's catalogue.

For Stand By Your Van, all we have is the terrible Erika picture disc pressing, which does not contain the full album.

For Second Hand Smoke, again...all we have is the terrible Erika picture disc pressing, which does not contain the full album.

And lastly, Everything Under The Sun has never been pressed on vinyl, so hopefully they will get a proper vinyl box set release at some point, because that contains some pretty great tunes on that compilation.

As for the new pressing through MVD, I'm grabbing it while I can.  I can't wait to see what Hot Topic does with their version and you know that I'll get a copy of that pressing when it is available, but I've been waiting patiently for far too long to pass this up today!  At $22.49 for a pre-order, I'd say that is legit.  Way better than paying $100 for a previous pressing on Ebay!

    A couple of remarks:

    - I think rather than pressing the posthumous releases (post Self-titled) on vinyl, I think they should re-compile the songs and THEN release them. It's honestly a mess of songs among Second Hand Smoke, the Acoustic album, the self-titled deluxe edition, and Everything Under The Sun. A little scary that an entire 8 years passed between the release of the Acoustic album and Everything Under The Sun. Some politics were involved in that, but still. The fact that there was so much material that didn't see the light of day for such a long time, it's just crazy. It's part of the reason why I think they should start fresh with new compilations for everything that was released after Self-Titled.

    - Adding on to the last point, you can easily make a compilation of the best of Sublime's early recordings prior to the release of 40 Oz. To Freedom. Most of these songs would come from Second Hand Smoke and Everything Under The Sun. The band practically had an entire album of material prior to 40 Oz.

    01. Roots of Creation (EUTS)

    02. Perfect World (EUTS)

    03. Romeo (SHS)

    04. Chick On My Tip (SHS)

    05. New Realization (SHS)

    06. Ebin (EUTS)

    07. Date Rape (EUTS)

    08. Ball and Chain (EUTS)

    09. Slow Ride (SHS)

    10. Had A Dat (SHS)

    11. Don't Push (SHS)

    12. Trenchtown Rock (SHS)

    13. Johnny Too Bad (EUTS)

    14. Smoke Two Joints (EUTS)

Basically, you can make a playlist out of those 14 songs I listed and make the pre-cursor to 40 Oz.

    - It's surprising to me how good "Stand By Your Van" sounds compared to the "3 Ring Circus: Live at the Palace". Someone botched the audio on the 3 Ring Circus release because there should be no reason why Caress Me Down on Stand By Your Van actually sounds a lot better than on 3 Ring Circus. The bass on 3 Ring Circus sounds terrible, and it wasn't because of Eric's playing. If his tone sounded fine on Caress Me Down on Stand By Your Van, then how could they not get it ride on 3 Ring Circus when it's the same show. Obviously the rest of Stand By Your Van was from different shows, so that's why I bring up Caress Me Down.

  8. Finch played "Insomniatic Meat", "Ink", "Bitemarks and Bloodstains", and "A Piece Of Mind" in Japan the other night. They've also played "Brother Bleed Brother" at other shows recently. I'd say the 5 together are the most accessible songs from the album. After these 5, the rest of the album is fairly obscure, though "A Man Alone", "Revelation Song", and "Miro" might be the other accessible songs in my view.

  9. I hate being "that guy" but I have a question-My local record store is holding the Sublime, Robbin The Hood, pic disc for me. Its 30 dollars. I know 40z is getting repressed sometime and last time it was RTH was pressed along with it, so my question is should I pick the picture disc up now or wait for a *wink, wink* better deal?

Thanks, and sorry for possibly being annoying.

    Diehard Sublime fan here.

Unless you're planning on framing the pic discs and putting them on your wall, the pic discs for 40 Oz and Robbin hold little value in my opinion because they only feature select songs from the albums.

You're better off trying to pick up a recent press of Robbin from somewhere online.

On a side note, I wonder if there are any other Sublime vinyl releases planned besides another repress of 40 Oz.

  10. http://slaves.merchnow.com/products/182730/through-art-we-are-equals-orangered-lp

Their drummer a few weeks ago had told me that they probably wouldn't get to press it until December, so it's pretty awesome that this was just put up for sale out of nowhere.

I still need to pick up Jonny Craig's recent solo record on vinyl too. Just saw that Hot Topic is also releasing his debut this month.

  11. Best album since In Defense Of The Genre. Very cohesive. Unlike Self-Titled and Anarchy, Hebrews doesn't come across like a bunch of songs just thrown together on an album with little regard to flow or song sequencing. There is a general theme/concept. Basically, it plays like an album, which is the same feeling I had about Is A Real Boy and even In Defense Of The Genre. I also LOVE the fact that Max tried something drastically different with this album, rather than a re-hash of the other albums. As an Incubus fan, it reminds me of If Not Now When, which most fans despised, but I actually appreciated for similar reasons.

Originally was concerned for the album due to the singles released, but now I enjoy the singles when listening to them within the context of the record.

  12. The band that recorded this EP is the DBM2 DGD lineup without Jonny Craig. So Jon Mess, Will Swan, Eric Lodge, and Matt Mingus. For the full-length Secret Band album that will be coming up, Eric Lodge has been replaced with another bass player and a second guitarist has been added.

The bassist for the album will be Jordan McCoy. He played bass for DGD during most of the tours in support of DBMII. He also played bass for the band K Sera.

I forgot his name, but the second guitarist will be the one who recorded lead parts on The Jiggler.
