  1. Well, currently I'm working on a PhD in Political Science at the University of New Mexico. After years of booking shows, running a label, and playing in bands in Michigan, I became so burnt out. My wife and I decided to pick and move to New Mexico and try something new, so I entered grad school, and got a Master's in Latin American studies. I wasn't sure grad school was for me, but I really liked it. I actually get paid to go to school and read books, so it's a pretty sweet deal. I have the summers off, travel to Latin America all the time and work at home. It's intense sometimes, during the semester I work about 60-70 hours a week and write a ton, but it is better than the lame warehouse I worked in for 6 years before moving. After being away from the "scene" for a while, I love music more than ever and sometimes miss being involved in music, but it is a great hobby to keep my mind off politics when I'm really stressed out.
  2. Just wondering, how annoying is it to take the platter off to switch the speed? Does it take getting used to, or is it fairly simple? I'm also somewhat clueless on record players that are not automatic. Does that mean when the record is over, it keeps spinning on the last groove? How do non-automatic record players stop?
  3. Kenwood KD291-R. I think I got it 12-13 years ago and its still going strong. I think it plays records just a little too fast, which I recently noticed, maybe like 34-35rpm instead of 33. But, its like a child to me, its my first record player. I have two others in storage, one broke and another I didn't like how the arm dropped on the vinyl...
  4. I'm not sure, I was just watching one on ebay and it went for only $18. I wanted it, but I had just bought a bunch of other stuff, and combined with my hatred for picture discs, I didn't feel like buying it. I just want the music without spending a lot of money.
  5. Songs: Ohia-Didn't it Rain Party of Helicopters-all Thoughts of Ionesco-the scar is our watermark
  6. MC5? nice! If you haven't heard it yet, you should check out the second album, Back in the USA, it might just be the first pop-punk record ever. Its great, but is unfortunately overshadowed by KOTJ.
  7. Wow, someone that knows Volta Do Mar? They rule, I remember the guitar player used to play in this band hashbrown from Chicago, that was the coolest band I ever saw when I was 14. Not sure if they are still around either...
  8. I just got a couple good deals off of ebay (at least I think they were good deals) $17 for Earth Crisis-Destroy the Machines lp $7.50 for Shotmaker-Crayon Club lp
  9. Another question: how often to people change their needles? I try to do it once a year, but I usually don't think about it
  10. I generally don't keep my records separate from the sleeves, maybe for some older, rare records it is a good idea. I've had several records for over ten years and still no signs of ring wear, so its not something that happens very fast. Although, 7"s seem to get ring wear much faster and so I have a few of those outside of the sleeves. I don't really like to do this for my LPs because it is much bulkier and I am running out a room for my records!
  11. I'd be interested in the 7 percent solution split, how much do you want for it? A great band that very few people ever heard...
  12. I think the original bidding ended at around $125,000 but the bidder didn't pay up, and then the record went for somewhere in the neighborhood of $25-40,000. I could be wrong, I read about this on a message board a while back and don't remember the exact figures. I'm just glad someone pressed a copy of it that is affordable, and the sound is pretty good.
  13. Some recent buys: Velvet Underground and Nico: Unripened. I got this off of ebay, its the original 1966 version of the album, and I love these guys, its a great record. Harriet the Spy-unfuckwithable from a local store Waiting for these to come in the mail: Shellac-excellent italian greyhound 12" Nile-Annihilation of the wicked 12" They Live 12" Rumbleseat is dead 12" PMFS-Mercy 12" The Sword-Freya 7"
  14. I've done this and it hasn't been a problem. Nothing that has been held at the post office was ever damaged, and you can fill out the hold mail form online now, you don't have to go into the post office.
  15. I would pick brown, I always prefer solid colors to clear. I'm kinda annoyed they redid this record. I have the original with only 10 tracks, and don't feel like forking over the money just to get a color and an extra song. Although this new version is way cooler than the first...
  16. I put the MCS demo up on ebay if anyone's interested. Thanks thomas for the advice
  17. I have one of these if anyone wants to buy or trade for it
  18. I saw drag the river play in Albuquerque, picked up the esta loco lp, and then found the site to order more Drag stuff...
  19. I have a few, but probably my favorite is a 5lp box set of Emperor. It was a gift, otherwise I would rather buy the CD than a pic disc, as much as I love vinyl. They are the most annoying things to take care of, its nearly impossible to tell if it has a scratch, and the sound does seem kinda thin compared to regular vinyl.
  20. It comes with artwork in a plastic sleeve, with an insert describing the recording. I got it from the band themselves back in 2000. I'm not sure if they were selling them or not at their shows at the time, but I got it for booking a show for them.
  21. I have the following items I'm trying to get rid of. Some of the stuff has prices, if it doesn't then make me an offer. Most of this stuff is in like new condition, but if anyone is interested in the following things, I am willing to send pictures and better describe the condition. I will also listen to anything before shipping just in case, because I haven't listened to these records in years. I have more random demos, records, etc of hardcore, punk, and indie stuff from the midwest from the late 90s if anyone is looking for something obscure. 7” Reality Vol. 1 comp, with Spazz, MITB, and more. Yellow vinyl Small Brown Bike “And Don’t Forget Me” on Salinger Press. Don Knotts “A Black Day for Mayberry” on Friction. Yellow vinyl, grind band that features all the members of North Lincoln. ($6ppd) (I have a few copies) 12” Israfel Comp on Ape Records, limited to 1000, with tracks from Locust, Reversal of Man, and more. Histeria Comp on Lengua Armada, with tracks from Life's Halt, Seein Red, Limp Wrist, E150, DS-13, deathreat and more. $10ppd. Since By Man/Seven Days of Samsara split “Why Don’t You Set This On Fire?” black vinyl on Harmless Records with diecut cover.$30ppd. Misc. Since By Man/With Arms Still Empty split CD on Kill You For A Dollar. SBM’s first release, limited to 1000 and out of print. $9ppd (I have more than one copy) Since By Man “What We Do is Secret” CD-R Demo. Same tracks as the split CD above, but this demo came out first, was limited to around 50 copies or so, and has radically different, zine style packaging. Cd itself is not in such great shape, but it should play ok. $55ppd, and I’ll throw in a copy of the split cd and an old button I have. True North “Sounds of Breaking Glass” demo tape. Motion City Soundtrack “Kids for America” CD-R demo, 6 songs. These songs were recorded in 2000, and I think these are their first recordings. Not sure if these songs were ever re-released later.
  22. Here is pretty much all of 12"s, and a few 10"s.
