  1. Well, the magazine is still up at boysdontcry for the same crazy $80. The shirt, music and posters have been brought down.

It makes me think that Blonde is getting a regular, wide release and the Black Friday 24h thing was a way to push the release and give people the opportunity to preorder it, although the site didn't make it clear. Perhaps an exclusive color? It doesn't seem reasonable that they would go into this whole artwork, pressing and distribution work for a 24h timeframe of sales when they could feed a bigger and obvious audience.

  2. I was expecting something in the surrounds of Channel Orange but as their hard genesis would hint, both records are way out of that scope. They are beautiful but minimal at the same time and Frank's qualities are all over them. He carries the whole thing as if the beats and guitars almost weren't necessary. It's like you have to dig for more in music that sounds somewhat rushed and shallow but once it clicks, it's awesome. I don't remember listening to music like that lately, especially in black music albums where people is usually all over the place.

And Blond has beaten Endless for me so far. I suspect I'll be listening to those records a lot in the forthcoming months.

  3. I've got mixed feelings.

Best songs are up to Tatum's quality standards. Nice melodic hooks and turns, he's a gifted and prolific songwriter. Those songs worked very well when I saw them live back in november and they clicked again when I first listened to the album.

But at least 50% of the record sounds like rushed or somewhat less inspired material. Almost like fillers.

So I'd say so far (and hopefully I'm jumping a little bit early at this) that the sum of the parts makes Life Of Pause the less inspired record in WN's discography.
