Man o man they are really trying to get people to set up automatic payments and get random records.  What is this now their 5th or 6th monthly club?

VIP, Flexi, White label, club 100....

I think we are all of us here are getting salty.  But I agree.  I wish they would concentrate on putting out higher quality releases.  I'm all for getting new and experimenting sounds, but there are just so few releases that they put out now that I like.

I had the honor of making a screen printed poster for mwY last month. Being a longtime fan I wanted to make sure the design would really appeal to other fans. The objects in the nest are all collected from their lyrics, particularly from the Pale Horses records. They sold really well at the show and the band took a bunch with them, so I have only a handful left to sell. I'm also about to pack up my studio for a move, so if you want a copy, now's the time! They are 18"x24" four color posters, signed and numbers, limited to 80. You can grab one here if you're interested.

You might want to post this over on the Reddit.com/r/mewithoutyou subreddit.

I've literally never paid that much for a new record. That is not the norm, and I highly doubt everyone will just bite the bullet without complaining.

Also, I think you and mutemath are definitely over-estimating their relevance. Any band that sees this and thinks they can also sell records for $75 are morons.

Well, let's hope it doesn't sell out.  I just know there is a large demand for the original pressing, so much so that people pay $300-$400 on discogs.  But I guess we'll just have to see what happens tomorrow.

And I have never paid anything close to that either except for the mewithoutYou pale horses collectors edition.  But I stand by that purchase as it is a very nice package and comes with a lot of extras.  and that was only $50.

Saw this news yesterday via modern vinyl on FB and like many others got excited. A good friend would love to have this, so was excited just to be able to tell him... until the obvious was discovered! I have the OG that I got from someone at deadformat for a mere $45 six years ago, but was honestly willing to buy this version purely for comparison sake, but that went out the window when I discovered the price. Maybe later on perhaps.

Look, we all know the music biz is a real shit sandwich and I understand the band can't go into debt over something that isn't a must for their career moving forward, and one would think this price point was mulled over long and hard, but I really am curious, as are many here I'm sure, how this will play out. Will it sell out right away and the band will be thrilled or will they be sitting on these for sometime as a result of the price? Also wondering if this may end up setting a precedent for other bands reissuing things as such, like X band sold their vinyl for this much, why don't we?  Not trying to bash the band as they seem like really nice guys and play their ass off live, but this is quite an interesting scenario. Would be nice to know where these are being pressed also?

I have no doubt that this will sell out fairly fast.  most likely within the first day or two.    I think we are the vocal minority that are complaining about it.  But I think other labels and bands will see that mutemath was able to sell a double lp for $75 and will have an effect on future releases.

Dang that's pretty. Does it include a download code? If so, does the download include the two songs from the 7"?

It doesn't include the download code.  Apparantly the codes were emailed out on Friday, but I didn't get a code and just looking online, it looks like a lot of others didn't either.  On the VIP facebook page an employee said to send them an email if you didn't get a code.  [email protected]

  7. As you say the variant game for mwY has become much harder the past year! But, as silly as it may seem to some, and expensive as it becomes it's still fun to do for one of my all time favorite bands. Needless to say they (and Burnt Toast) keep us busy with all these copies around.

yeah, burden was definitely to harsh of a word.  i would probably do it again if i went back in time.  I just can't believe how many releases there have been this past year.  it is absolutely crazy.  I will say though.  I have listened to every single one of them.  and looking back it is crazy how many people I have come in contact with when searching for some of the harder to find copies.

  8. Dude that is sexy. Some of the best display photos I've ever seen. If you don't mind me asking, what's your lighting setup?

Also if you ever give up the game I would be happy to take an [A->B] off your hands.

The setup definitely isn't anything special.  There is one lamp on each side and then a lamp above.  I just went to lowes and bought the brightest clear/white bulbs they had.

And if I had duplicates, I would definitely sell you one, but I ran out of all AB and CFUTF duplicates a long time ago.

  9. Every time they press another variant I feel sad for that one dude who it out there tryin' to catch 'em them all.

there is a couple of us that is trying to collect everything.  I know user FlippingOut is trying to collect.  And I think there is one of two more that collects as well.

between Pale Horses, BS, Ten Stories, and the upcoming Record Store Day releases, it will be more than 15 variants released in one year.

I started collecting all the releases about 5 or 6 years ago just because I thought it would be cool to have them all and at the time there wasn't much.  now it is just a burden.

Here is the current list of mwy vinyl releases

And here is an album of pictures of the variants, but it hasn't been updated in a year or so because I have been waiting to actually get everyting

  10. The trouble is that these are even being referred to as "test pressings", which I'll admit is a problem not unique to Joyful Noise.

These are clearly glorified variants or - at best - white label promos. You're basically paying three or four times retail for a black vinyl copy of an album with no label artwork or even a jacket.

It's nice that they're numbered and some of them are signed, but they're really just cash grabs in my opinion. Look at the Dumb Numbers box, for example: there were ten, I think, complete box sets available yesterday, then another 15 of each individual 10" available today. Who knows if more will pop up at auctions or elsewhere.

Don't get me wrong, I think the label puts out some great stuff, but at this point in pretty happy with just the plain releases or even the downloads rather than going crazy trying to score some arbitrary collectible being disguised as a test pressing.

how do you know they are only white labels and not actual test presses?

  11. This is pretty spot on. There was a great article in Alternative Press about this. I'm not sure if it can be found online. But there was a TON of turmoil in the band. And from fans like me, who hated that album. But Ten Stories was a wonderful rebirth.

I don't know if I have read that Alternative press article.  do you know when it came out?

  12. Can someone explain to me the backstory behind mwy's "Its All Crazy" album?  It sounds like they became a completely different band for one album and then immediately reverted back to sounding exactly how they sounded before that one album.  Was it an experiment?  Did it work?  Do they still play those songs live?

others can go more in dept, but the gist of it is this.  Aaron did most of the song writing and wanted to make songs children would enjoy as well.  There was also a lot of turmoil within the band and out.  Mike has stated he felt like a "for hire musician" during the recording process.   It just wasn't a good time for the band.

    That's pretty much it.

I for one thought they were going to break up after It's All Crazy as they were pretty quite for several years.  But they regrouped and put out Ten Stories which is an awesome record and got some new life.
