Pressing Weights 140-160g VS 180g

Recommended Posts

I'm no expert, but the extra weight adds extra depth. The greater thickness allows the grooves to be deeper so a "fuller" sound is obtained.

Not correct. They're pressed with the same plates as standard records. The grooves can't possible be deeper when they use the same stamper. The 180g makes it more durable, and there's something involving the vibrations that occur when the record is on the plate that makes it more stable on 180g vinyl. The grooves are only DEEPER if the record is shorter and it can be spread out more. So the shorter the record, the deeper the grooves. The HEAVIER the record, the more durable and less vibe you get.
