heisleyamor
Right now I have a really old "audio-technics" record player and receiver/amp. Should I get something new? or just change the needle/cartridge? What should I do about a preamp? I don't want to spend too much money. Let me know what you think. Thanks Jeff

heisleyamor
http://vinylcollective.proboards79.com/index.cgi?board=general&action=display&thread=2406 I've already read a lot of this thread. My question isn't what turntable should I get. But would it be ok to get a new neddle/cartridge or should I get a new preamp or what. planetrakis
Well, you should absolutely have a good receiver and speakers. Just having a good TT does you nothing. Acoustic Research, Altec Lansing, JBL, and Klipsch should be your speakers choices. They are all excellent and you can find some nice sets on the cheap. Get a receiver because it has everything built in so you don't need a separate pre amp, amp, tuner. I like vintage marantz, Sansui, and McIntosh. Pre 1981. Try to save for a rebuilt one by a reputable seller on ebay, or AudioKarma has excellent classifieds. There is no making up for power and good sound. Get a MINIMUM of 85 watts per channel solid state, or 50 watts per channel tube. Have fun searching! It's very fun.

cbbrew22
I'm trying to find some new setup. I don't have a lot to spend so right now I'm only looking to update my recevier and speakers. I've been looking on craigslist but I don't know what is good and what isn't. The receiver I found: http://orlando.craigslist.org/ele/809458429.html Speakers: http://orlando.craigslist.org/ele/810947855.html http://orlando.craigslist.org/ele/809428136.html
