swank
Thats what happens when you mess with a bully who got all Cs in high school. He'll show you who's in control by letting your dog die in front of you. yay cops!

scottheisel
Cop was totally in the right. It's awful that the guy's dog died but if he was doing 100 MILES AN HOUR as the cop said, then fuck that -- he truly was endangering every single other person's life on the highway that night, as well as his girlfriend's. What if he crashed into one of your friends or family members while trying to get his dog to the vet? I doubt you'd think the cop was a douchebag then. It's understandable he pulled him over, but the cop really was an asshole. He didn't need to say the shit he did. The "It's a dog - you can get another one" comment an the "I really don't care about your dog" comments were quite douche-esque. The berries and cherries acted like a total dick. For some people, their pets practically are their kids.

It's their job to protect the rights and ensure the safety of humans. This guy was endangering hundreds of lives in order to attempt to save a pet. That's kind of completely ridiculous. Duff
ive seen dogs choke plenty of times and ive also seen dogs swallow bones and rocks before and not choke. but unless the guy lives like 10 mins away from the vet the dog doesnt really have that great a chance to live if the owners cant stop the dog from choking themselves. yes its shitty what the cop did and yes the guy deserved to get pulled over, but even if he was going 100 just give him the ticket and move on. no need to keep him there for 15 mins and basically tell the guy fuck your dog. they could see the guy wasnt lying and there was a choking dog in the car. i havent read anything about this but i wouldnt be surprised to see a lawsuit come out of this and peta all over this too. cadetapplesauce
i agree with scott and kurtz... the cop did absolutely nothing wrong with stopping the couple, but he was being a dick about it. adam is right also. there was a lot of shit that he didn't need to say. but if someone is driving over 100mph and doesnt even stop when the cop is flashing his lights at you and has his sirens on, i could understand how someone would be agitated enough to be that upset over it. but i also understand how it must be to have a pet that means a lot to you die in front of you. i would say if the guy was as hysterical as he was, he shouldn't have been driving in the first place. although i imagine if one of my family members is dying, i would be hauling ass down the freeway, too.. how ironic would that be if the dog was choking on a donut?? I'm not saying he was in the wrong. He was 100% right in pulling the guy over. I'm just saying his comments were completely unnecessary. He could've totally handled the situation without the comments he made.

You make a good point, Gabe -- the driver was acting all sorts of crazy, so the cop may have been holding him longer just to get him to calm down. Letting a guy who's ostensibly in hysterics climb back into a car he was just doing 100mph in sounds pretty dangerous to me. I firmly stand behind this cop's decision. nickheitman
cop was an asshole plain and simple. he wasn't wrong, he was just being an asshole. based on my experience, this is how most cops are..
swank
Couldn't the cop just as easily escorted the guy, quickly and safely to the emergency vet, and then give him a speeding/reckless driving ticket afterwards? Wouldn't that have been the reasonable thing to do, if say, the guy was driving his wife to the hospital because she was giving birth, or bleeding to death or whatever? The cop pretty clearly was judging the mans problem based on his own opinions on pets. He thought showing the man who was in charge of the situation took precidence over a life that was obviously pretty important to the guy. The question isn't really if the guy should have been brought up on charges or not, because if he was driving dangerously, he absolutely should have. I think the question is what the cops priorities were in that situation.

Exactly what I would've done, but that's because I'm not a dick and probably would care more about a pet than a person. Guy's comments were so wrong. And the guy was probably hysterical because he got pulled over and there was nothing he could do. I'm sure he was hysterical, but probably not as bad as he was when he was standing there.
