Protagonist e-mailed me and said things are still going through the works. Apparently they're being sued by the Cool Kids for a possible name infringement. DISCUSS! protagonist Posted April 10, 2009 Share Posted April 10, 2009 Here's an update directly from us here at the label: 1) Yep, the first batch of test pressings were rejected The new batch have taken about 2 weeks longer than expected from the plant, but we were just told last night that they would ship out tomorrow (Friday) so we are hoping to have them early next week and take it from there... Right now we are only about 3 weeks behind the originally expected time-frame so we're not too stressed yet. The record will be worth the wait, trust us! 2) More recently, and frankly more worrisome, is the fact that Chicago college-radio hip-hop group The Cool Kids have issued a "Cease and Desist" order to legally prevent Teenage Cool Kids from using the name. We hoped that it might just be a big bluff on their part, but they seem to actually mean business, and now we have lawyers involved on both sides. Since we were/are awaiting the new test-pressings anyway, we have just let things run their course without making too much of a public issue of this. However, if the test are approved next week, we will then consult with the legal reps and determine how best to move forward. Needless to say, delays on pre-ordered records are a regular occurrence in indie music - but we are committed to getting this figured out as quickly as we can. The email that went out to everyone who ordered was just the beginning of our efforts to communicate with all of you who have supported our label, and the band, by purchasing the record. Expect to hear more soon. In the end, the rejected tests are a small hurdle, and par for the course... but the legal hang-up is definitely a (potentially) bigger bummer. An email with your purchase date and other pertinent info is all we need. We hope to have them in our hands early next week! 2) Lawyers on our side have filed a suit on behalf of the band, in an effort to strike preemptively at The (not so) Cool Kids attempts to prevent the use of the name Teenage Cool Kids. We could hear from the judge in as little as a couple of weeks, so please keep your fingers crossed!! 3) We are sending off the Suis La Lune/Osceola split 7" to press next week. We also hope that the new Algernon Cadwallader "Hot Green" 7" w/bonus CD will be ready to go to press by the end of April too...but the band needs to finish up a few art details, etc. For those of you who continue to get behind this label, and the bands we are working with, we can't say thank you enough. protagonist Posted June 13, 2009 Share Posted June 13, 2009 A good news update for all of you: As many of you know, but some of you may not, the legal battle over use of the name TEENAGE COOL KIDS has now been settled, and we (the band and the label) won!! So, along with the delays we had on the manufacturing end (3 sets of bad tests) we were also stuck waiting to see if our lawyers could get us to the point where we could actually release this thing at all.... And now we're made it through all the bullshit - yahooooo!!! For all of you who pre-ordered TEENAGE COOL KIDS "Foreign Lands" 180gm LP back in March, we are finally scheduled to begin shipping orders around June 19th-22nd We'll be starting with those who've been waiting the longest, and working our way forward...but our goal is to get all of them out as quickly as we can. And if you've been waiting to order due to the delays, now is the time! There are still some cheap deals in our webstore for multiple items, and in July we will be increasing our shipping charges a bit...so get moving. Thanks to everyone who has been patient, understanding and supportive during the last few moths - they were agonizing - but we appreciate the way people stood be hind us here at the label and behind the band as well. And we've got the vinyl version of "Queer Salutations" in the works now too, which is really gonna be fantastic. Glad to see people are psyched on that idea. Also, at the pressing plant right now is the SUIS LA LUNE / OSCEOLA split 7" which we are really happy to be finishing up. The dudes in ALGERNON CADWALLADER have really been slow in finishing up artwork for the new "Hot Green" 7" we're doing for them, but when it hits, you're all gonna love it! ZANN are completing the songs for their new 7" too, so we hope for that to see the light by September.
