yes gatefold is the US pressing and the die-cut is the European pressing. when you save the files the filenames come up as either US or Euro.

While it does look cooler, unfortunately it won't make it sound any better and therefore isn't really worth the extra $$. Packaging like that will wear much worse over time as well.
