willbratt
This spicy little number: http://www.audionote.co.uk/products/analogue/cart_iq_2_01.shtml I bought my 'table used and it came with a Linn K18 moving magnet cartridge, which has been decent for the past couple years. However, it's getting on in years and I started noticing more surface noise when it played, etc. I went to my local hifi hotspot, which is where I bought my 'table, and the guy who sold it to me recommended that I replace it with something of equal or greater quality, as the Linn K18 was an excellent moving magnet cartridge in its day. He recommended the Audio Note IQ1, which they sell for around $650 CDN. I was a little discouraged because that's a lot of money to drop on a cartridge, in my opinion. I knew that if I didn't, my cart would be the weak point on my system. In hopes of finding good deals, I often scour ebay. Very few Audio Note products actually make it to the Bay because they're made in very limited numbers and are restricted to particular retailers. I got lucky, however, and found a guy in Europe selling a IQ2 for 200 GBP. The IQ2 is the next step up from the IQ1, and sells at my local spot for around $1000 CDN. I took this opportunity and ran with it, and now I have a $1000 cartridge that I bought for under $400 CDN and I'm VERY stoked to plug it in and play some music! willbratt
Hopefully you know how to set up a cartridge. In fact I do not! I plan on taking it to the shop and having them set it up. I'm going to see if I can watch how it's done because I'm very un-handy with anything mechanical/electrical and I'd like to know for my own purposes.
