xgrantx
OK...If I get art formatted for a cd, how hard would it be to change this to LP art. The front image should be the same proportions right? And the back would need to be cropped on the LP opening side and the side bar of the cd could stay as the side bar of the lp, right? I have minimal design experience but have plenty of friends who could navigate the programs that would be needed, but I don't want to take up too much of their time. Thanks... sunna
your biggest issue should be making sure the files are high enough resolution to be blown up 2.5 times and not look like pixelized garbage. and after that you should get someone who has laid out an LP before to help or do it for you so you don't make a really expensive mistake. xgrantx
yeah. I'm pretty sure the image should be a high enough resolution. The label said they can do it if I pay for it. I am going to ask how much it will cost.
whenslunchrecords
pay the money, it will never look right trying to get the CD art to fit. so least I can figure now, is you licensed something.... what are you releasing?

xgrantx
yeah I am licensing something. I'd rather not say what just yet due to the fact that I have not paid yet and if for some reason this doesn't happen I won't feel as bad as I would if I had went around boasting about it. Once I figure this part out and my contract goes through I will definitely provide more details. I really appreciate the help you guys have been giving me with my questions. Thanks guys. If you want to, holler at this guy, he has done a ton of LP layouts for us, and rules. He's done several re-issues from original LP or CD artwork, and ressecutated it. (sp?) http://www.solidartsandscience.com mention that I refered you and he can likely hook you up for really cheap, especially if it's only a cover and not an entire layout. nicola
If you don't have the artwork designed yet, I'd suggest you design it at the correct size for an LP, then size it down for the CD. It's a lot easier and better-looking to shrink artwork down than it is to try and enlarge it.

moonbeams
I've never printed a record or music so I don't know, but when you get art, save it as a high resolution tiff file that's big enough or bigger than an LP. Then shrink one for CDs.
scotian902
Make sure it's minimum 300dpi otherwise any text will look like garbage. Just because it looks good on the screen at 72dpi, doesn't mean it will look good printed. Also, agreed it should be created at LP size and reduced to fit cd. The dimensions/proportions are even close to being the same, and if you go to www.iloveimprint.com and download the CD and LP jacket templates, you'll be able to see that they are not very similar.
