Yes, Inside is insane. Holy shit.

Re: Martyrs - I guess it's to the film's credit that I'm still thinking about it a few weeks after I watched it. The second half is really hard to stomach, and there's very little gore. I can't decide if the motivations of the organization and the whole premise are intriguing or just a pseudo-philosophical gimmick used to excuse a torture porn film.

Yeah I see what you mean, but I've read a few things about torture and hardships and y say that you go into a state of euphoria or something, so to me, it makes sense

Also, with the ending...SPOILER FOR THOSE WHO HAVEN'T SEEN IT

Do you think she killed herself because the girl told her there was an afterlife and the woman finally achieved her goal and wanted to experience it, or do you think she did it because she realized what she had done to the girl, or...?

Martyrs SPOILERS ahead

My take was that she told the old woman that there was nothing, and hence the suicide. It basically rendered the organization's work meaningless. Remember the woman's words to her assistant before she shoots herself - "keep doubting", or something to that effect. Whether or not the girl was telling the truth, I don't know. Maybe she was, but she could also just be saying that as a kind of revenge on the old woman.

I loved these films. Have you seen [REC]? It's a pretty decent Spanish zombie movie.

Unfortunately I haven't seen nearly as many horror films as I would like. Both 28 ___ Later are awesome, and I like stupid things like Zombieland and Shaun of The Dead. I've seen all the Saw and Hostel films and they're ok, but nothing special. I could use some recs actually.

Martyrs was pretty hard to watch, but I thought the concept was interesting. I watched it months ago and I still think about it occasionally. My bf downloaded Dead Girl but we had a shitty copy and the sound was off but I think what it involves I probably don't want to watch. We got to the part where the guys found the girl and I can imagine what goes down after that....

SPOILER FOR MARTYRS

I thought that the girl either told the old lady that there was no afterlife, or that she (old lady) would not be able to experience it because of what she had done to all of those people.

Either way, glad that bitch died.

More Martyrs spoilers

That's rad that you guys think that. For me, I took it as she killed herself because she told her about what she experienced and because that was the lady's whole purpose, she killed herself to see and experience it for herself. I haven't watched this in a few months, so I'll have to pop it in again and see.

Discussions rule haha

Takeshi Miike is where its at for horror films imo. He gets you to feel for the characters (which most horror doesnt) and then it makes anything that happens to them that much worse. Audition still to this day is one of the best horror movies made in the last 25 years. As far as older stuff, anything Dario Argento did (suspiria, Tenebre, Cat o Nine Tails etc) is amazing. Also Lucio Fulci did some amazing stuff ( as mention earlier with Zombi). If you wanna go by actors, get anything Vincent Price did, he is the master of the macabre. My all time three horror movies are in order. Halloween (a masterpiece on so many different levels), Dracula (Bela Legosi is still the creepiest vampire I have ever seen) and Day of The Dead (very underrated out of the Romero trilogy).

And for the gorehounds, Flowers of the Flesh and Blood. I'm not too sure on any info. I somehow got a burned copy of it and...wow...just wow. I heard it's a rip off of an actual snuff film.

Also, I busted out an old Japanese movie the other day called Junk. If you dig zombies, you'll dig this movie :)

More Asian zombie goodness: Tokyo Zombie, Stacy, Wild Zero, and I forget if this has zombies, but I think it does, Battlefield Baseball

Flower Of Flesh and Blood is part of the Guinea Pig series of faux snuff films. They're all very violent and interesting. If I'm not mistaken Flower of Flesh and Blood is the one Charlie Sheen thought was real. A box set came out in like 2005 that has all of the series plus some "Making Of" features that are really cool.

I just got a copy of the Dario Argento box set as well as the Ultimate edition of Dawn of the Dead so I'll probably be playing catch up on those plus volume 2 of the Bava box set for a few weeks.

Horror Movies I've watched and enjoyed for various reasons:

Ils (Them) (short but sweet)

Calvaire (odd but some good sequences especially the dancing)

Inside (fuck yeah!!)

Martyrs (I enjoyed the entire film)

Frontier(s) (has almost everything that makes modern horror fun)

Sheitan (creepy)

Art Of The Devil (slow but good)

Art Of The Devil II (better than the first one)

The Midnight Meat Train (I was let down by the ending)

Black House (really cool twist)

The Devil's Backbone (not really scary but really cool)

Wolf Creek (yeah, I like bad films too)

Shiver

Laid To Rest (stupid but the gore is awesome)

The Hamiltons (vampires...)

[REC] (better than Quaranteen)

Dark Ride(enjoyable but predictable)

Botched (Uncut)...(Ridiculous but funny if you enjoy horror comedy)

Deadgirl (seriously, who thinks this shit up. LOL)

Trick r' Treat (not sure if this had a plot)

Wrong Turn (not sure why I like this crap, but it's fun)

Wrong Turn II (Henry Rollins but the gore is pretty cool)

Some of these are foreign films so keep that in mind.

I like scary horror films that are about weird shit and zombies etc, but I'm pretty sure I would get absolutely no enjoyment out of watching 50 minutes of pretend torture.

I see where you're coming from but I think, to some people including me, the appeal is in the special effects which are sometimes quite good. I know there's a lot of sickos who just get off on the torture aspect but I think there's also a small group who enjoys them for the effects, kind of like the Saw franchise.

The theater near me finally released the schedule for 8 Films to Die for. The only one I can see tomorrow is ZMD: Zombies of Mass Destruction. It looks very Shaun of the Dead, so I'm pretty stoked!

The thing that is weird is that all the dvds for the movies are coming out in March. I wonder if next year it will be a direct to dvd type of thing

Watched Saw 6 last night. Nothing new going on in this series, at all...but, I'm still enjoying learning pieces of the back story.

I wish a local theater near me played the 8 Films To Die For series. I end up seeing them via netflix but I'd enjoy seeing them on a big screen.

Audition!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That movie literally left me creeped out and feeling weird for a week after I watched it.

the great thing about audition was that i gave the movie to my sister to watch and told her to just watch the movie and not read the dvd cover or even stay long on the dvd menu. she and her husband didn't know anything about it. they were very "wtf ?" after they watched it

So I'm broke as fuck and my girlfriend is busy tonight. I'm gonna make a night out of it.

Frontier(s)

High Tension

Inside

Hopefully I find what I'm looking for. Saw and Hostel just didn't cut it for me, but these films look epic.

you are fucked, man.

your mind will be blown.

Just saw martyrs

MORE SPOILERS!

what in the fuck. that movie was fucking intense but seriously, i hated the ending. i understand the concept and that it had to end the way it did to maintain the story, but i just can't get past the fact that i didn't get to see that bald guy fucking eat it at the end. first film i ever watched where i was just waiting and waiting for someone to die and they never did. its like they showed us the revenge at the beginning, then made us hate the antagonist even more, but didn't ease our nerves at all. what an amazing movie though.
