What are you guys digging lately?
xadamhudsonx
I actually just saw a sneak midnight show of Clive Barker's Dread, part of this years 8 Films to Die For. There was a Q&A with the director and three of the main starts. Pretty decent movie, although a bit slow to start up. I also watched Pandorum this weekend and was kind of dissapointed. I was expecting a psychological horror in space movie, and really ended up with The Decent in space movie.
goraiders
im slowly trying to get into horror movies, I got drunk and watched sorority row which was pretty funny. I have Pandorum dled to watch soon, I'm more of a fan of funny horror movies. Any recommendations other than evil deads?

silentgods
watched carriers based on my buddys recomendation, better then average plague movie. I also watched the new rob zombie halloween II (which unlike his first halloween which took me a couple times to get into) i thought was awesome. i also brought Replusion on blu-ray, fucking brillant old school movie. i honestly think Rosemarys Baby and Replusion are Polanski's best movies. xfedupx
Also, for funny, check out Night of the Creeps and of course, Shaun of the Dead too if you haven't seen it. Does anyone have some decent knowledge on the 70s films, like the Hammer films and the Something Weird type videos? Any recommendations? littlerobot
Last night I saw two pretty laughable horror movies. First one was Children at Play. Its pretty boring until the insanely ridiculous end scene, which makes it all worth it. Second one was Zombie. I kinda just skipped around that one and looked for the zombie scenes, but it looked like a higher budget movie with cool looking zombies. goraiders
i loved dance with the dead which was on ondemand fearnet, zombies attack during prom and only the losers who weren't invited can save them. it was so funny
davezer
Drag Me To Hell for sure is a great movie. Standards in my house are Devils Rejects and House of 1000 Corpses. But thats about it for me. As a "smoker" I'd rather be laughing my ass off.
cosmonaut
The newer French stuff is interesting. Ils (them) was really good. Same with the first half of high tension. I also recently saw martyrs, and I'm not sure what I think about that. Definitely brutal and hard to watch, but an interesting concept. LowEndAutomatic
Every once in a while I'll check Comcast's Fear.net on my tv... It's free horror movies by my cable provider! This weekend I started watching New Year's Evil... So bad, but laughable... A terrible new wave horror film from the early 80's... I don't watch too many horror films anymore, but lived for them as a kid... When I was a kid a local cable channel used to run horror matinees and there was this one that had a scene of a little girl playing ball in a field and all of the sudden all of these hands started reaching out of the ground... It was scary as hell when I was like ten... Anyone know what it might be? I know it's very little to go on...

Guest kingbuzzo
Does anyone have some decent knowledge on the 70s films, like the Hammer films and the Something Weird type videos? Any recommendations? For Hammer in the 70s you're looking at a lot of sequels and failed attempts to catch up to the (then) current market. They couldn't match the violence present in American films so they upped the levels of sexual depictions in the films. They even partnered with the Shaw Brothers Studio for a few films. Outside of maybe Frankenstein and the Monster from Hell and Hands of the Ripper there isn't a whole lot, in my opinion, worth getting into. Something Weird on the other hand is a great place to check out. I recommend the movies of H.G. Lewis especially Blood Feast and The Wizard of Gore. Just be prepared for some poor acting but cool gore effects. If you like Blood Feast stay away from the sequel. It's terrible. Beyond those, just dive into the catalog. I have yet to be disappointed by Something Weird. On my end, I just got the Sleepaway Camp Survival Kit in the mail and watched all three of those. I had forgotten how enjoyable the two sequels are. Very funny early parodies of the slasher film and it's conventions.

It was really pretty weird watching those two kids bang the "dead girl," and I thought the ending was predictable. Can't wait to pick up House of the Devil on dvd next Tuesday, it was one of the best horror films I've seen in years.

Can't wait to pick up House of the Devil on dvd next Tuesday, it was one of the best horror films I've seen in years. It was ok. I liked it and would watch it again, but not something I'd be excited to watch over and over again if that makes sense. It was an interesting but dull plot and I almost turned it off after the first 10 minutes due to the stupid "I"m sexy" look the one dude was giving that girl. The 2 main actors looked like Twilight rejects House of the Devil though, amazing. Did you see that they're releasing it on vhs as well? So good! Re: Martyrs - I guess it's to the film's credit that I'm still thinking about it a few weeks after I watched it. The second half is really hard to stomach, and there's very little gore. I can't decide if the motivations of the organization and the whole premise are intriguing or just a pseudo-philosophical gimmick used to excuse a torture porn film.
