kylet
does anyone know why frame and matting is so expensive? just curious. You're paying for the labor of someone who has a trade skill. The sheet of museum glass alone is pretty pricey, plus the frame, boarder, back board, labor, it adds up quick. I got that framed at a shop by my house called "Brian's Art Gallery." "monk0nuggets" from this board recommended him to me. I called a few chain craft stores about getting the STD record framed and they all were about the same price. They all had like 20 different miserable old ladies working for them that didn't want to be bothered. Why would I want to leave my most prized record with these hags. I went into Brian's Art Gallery and Brian was really friendly, gave me a good vibe, and knew his shit. Since then I've gotten my signed Ramones poster framed by him, and my signed Gaslight Anthem print. I can post pictures another time if anyones interested. He gives me 10% off just for coming back. Dude's legit!
sharkticon
Backing up the above post. My office has tons of prints and tour posters framed and the dude we were using closed his shop. So we went to another place and the prices were insane. I found a nice lady who runs a small frame store in a small shopping center who will frame 24"x36" prints for ~$75. Local framers are great. Even with Michael's 60% off deals they have every other week, their frame jobs are still way too expensive for "meh" work.
kylet
I've been contemplating framing my tour copy of Til The Wheels Fall Off. But I don't want it to fade, or have the glow in the dark paint wear out any faster than normal. would give anything to go back in time and sell my copy of this record when they were going for $300+. Not even a huge HWM fan. Went to the NJ show to see The Lawrence Arms. Also, If you get it framed professionally with museum glass it won't fade. Museum glass blocks like 98% of the UV rays. It's called something like Conservation level museum glass. If you take it to a decent place they'll know what you're talking about
davezer
I have As Tall As Lions S/T jacket framed just because I love the artwork so much. Also my Hot Rod Circuit - If its Cool With You.... jacket. Actual records and sleeves stay on the shelf for listening!
shenanigans
Custom frame I had made for the Souls 20th anniversary collection. The records aren't it the frame. It has the museum glass kylet was talking about. You can barely even tell its there. 2 sheets of glass and no matting.
decline221984
Nice Bouncing Souls. I framed mine myself using a standard 12x12 frame. I think it came out good. Edit: I ripped the Cd before framing it.

Guest itsajakie
this may be a dumb question. but wouldnt it be bad for the records to lay them on top of eachother like that?
240jw
My copy of Sundials is framed. I have taken it out to listen on occasion. The frame was from an online retailer, I forgot the name..but it was about $
andrewc
this may be a dumb question. but wouldnt it be bad for the records to lay them on top of eachother like that? Probably not any worse than the wear and tear of playing them regularly.
kylet
These are the other things I've had framed by Brian: The Ramones (about $160) The Gaslight Anthem (about $100) And the STD record cost about $150 to frame. There's no glares, the pictures just turn out like that. Seriously if anyone is from or around the Buffalo area, check this guy out.
mygreatdevastator
I don't know if there are Christmas Tree Shops anywhere outside New England, but they sell "Vinyl frames" for like 2.99, essentially a 12x12 frame, you can not put a gatefold in it.
