Out: DALE COOPER QUARTET + LES FRAGMENTS DE LA NUI

Recommended Posts

Salut,

This time we’re pretty quick. Not earlier than expected but finally in time the pressing plant delivered the latest preorders: The DALE COOPER QUARTET – PAROLE DE NAVARRE CD/2xLP and LES FRAGMENTS DE LA NUIT – DEMAIN C'ETAIT HIER LP are ready to ship now. As well on our doorsteps today: the WORRIEDABOUTSATAN - ARRIVALS 2xLP. We're more than happy with the results. They all sound and look stunning. We’ll ship all preorders in the next days.

A little problem concerning the DALE COOPER SHIRTS. The special blue color we have offered isn't available anymore. All people who ordered will get the black ones. If that's a problem for your please contact us. The preorders which include the shirts will need a bit longer. They're not printed yet.

Orders are possible via www.denovali.com/mailorder.

Takk!

DALE COOPER QUARTET & THE DICTAPHONES - PAROLE DE NAVARRE CD/2xLP

Formed for the improvisation nights Dynamo in Brest, France, this quartet made of musicians covering a wide variety of musical styles creates a sound that mixes electronic (samples, cuts, sound treatments) and acoustic elements (guitars, saxophone, trumpet). They’re playing moody ballads that sound as if they would come out from one of David Lynch's movies. Like in the films of Hollywood’s master of bizarre pieces, there is something like a dark and poisonous colour broken by red thunderlights and blue cigarette smoke. The music spawnes some odd characters and landscapes while the listener makes out some more friendly faces that loom up out of this nowhere place: the voice of Zalie Bellaccico, Milanese streets sounds, a lazy flute, or some distant breathing swim on the surface of this deep troubled waters. "Paroles de Navarre" is an invitation for opening the red curtain of this Dark Jazz cabaret made of shimmering and whirling walls.

For pop listeners without a feeling for depressive soundscapes it might be boring – for us it’s one of the best musical outputs we’ve discovered in the past years. If you like BOHREN UND DER CLUB OF GORE or THE KILIMANJARO DARKJAZZ ENSEMBLE, you should be all ears.

WORRIEDABOUTSATAN - ARRIVALS 2xLP

Finally available on vinyl!!! A one time only vinyl pressing of the debut full lenght (released on cd in 2009) of one of the most promising british electronic acts. It's the culmination of 2 years work and it was born of a desire to meld the emotive aspects of ambient and post rock music with a subtle minimal electronic backdrop. Limited to 300 pieces (100x clear yellow, 100x clear blue, 100x clear) on 180g vinyl and in thick gatefold sleeves.

Pitchfork "the percussion is manicured yet spritzy, with the baroque cadences of spitting rain. periodic vocal samples are hung about in hazy washes, making it sound a bit like Burial for english-lit majors... they got the album title right-- they've arrived."

the silent ballet "arrivals is probably the best dub-inflected techno album since the black dog's 'radio scarecrow' last year. two further positives: this seems like an album that can only improve on further listening and worriedaboutsatan are still at the early stages of their musical life"

plan b magazine "a sumptuous, immersive piece, populated with lonely clicks, earthly organs and stirring synthetic strings. infrequently a voice appears; disembodied, quietly squalling, it is not quite of our world - much like worriedaboutsatan, in fact"

drowned in sound "it would smack more than faintly on hyperbole to say that this is a pioneering album, regardless of its qualities. i shan't waste any more words on what genre the sea of sound that is Arrivals fits into. let's just call it an hour's worth of creepy, organic, nearly always-tension-building electronic ambience which certainly owes as much, if not more, to the hidden influences as the obvious ones"

clash magazine "step off the path just an inch and you'll be tumbling through patterns and motifs both unfamiliarly alien and unsettlingly absorbing"

the line of best fit "this is one of the best electronica albums I have heard in years"

LES FRAGMENTS DE LA NUIT - DEMAIN C'ETAIT HIER LP

Les Fragments de la Nuit return with their new album! "Demain, c'était Hier" perpetuates their timeless musical quest, blending the radiance of the stars with the dark forces that lurk in the Night.

The French ensemble have kept faithful to their trademark style, in which pulsing piano chords set the pace for the string-work woven by the cellist and the three violinists, haunted by female choirs that surface on occasion. Yet, contrary to its predecessor, which mostly gathered pieces composed over the years, "Demain, c'était Hier" was devised as a complete opus, giving way to longer and more elaborate compositions.

Although challenging in its complexity, "Demain, cétait Hier" is nevertheless immediately engaging, building a vibrant soundtrack to a tale of mystery and suspense. The album holds quiet, melancholy-driven moments - such as those found on Teletemps or Cyrius B, emphasized by beautiful violin solos, or the title track's slow motion waltz - that flow into stirring, violent passages on tracks like Lunistice or Des Restes Vivaces. Halfway through the record, Allegra Aeternae offers an epic crescendo, complete with choir, percussion and French horn, immediately preceding the eerie Marche Nocturne with its wickedly ceremonial atmosphere. Such variety is testimony to the band's ability to take Contemporary / Neo-Classical music beyond its typical standards, by adding to this genre other stylistic references, some common to Post-Rock, Pop or even Metal, and thus bringing together elements that recall the works of composers like Steve Reich, Philip Glass or Arvo Pärt with those of formations such as Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Balanescu Quartet or even the sinister cult-band Magma. "Demain, cétait Hier" discloses a unique musical universe that takes form in an overpowering nocturnal masterpiece.

Hey Bryan they told me I should be the Les Fragments albums any day now but last time that happened they got returned but they assured me that would not be the issue now. I should be getting it any day now. I am also looking forward to this thing.

sorry, I wish they made stuff easier for those of us who just want all of their releases who live stateside.

either way you are guaranteed a color copy.

sorry, I wish they made stuff easier for those of us who just want all of their releases who live stateside. .

if you tell me how we should organize that I directly would do it. I can't change the fact that US distributors are pretty ignorant and are not interested in our releases. beyond that we now have one for the US. it slowly starts. if you ever start your own label you'll see how difficult it is to build up these channels. you're just seeing the results and not the immense work behind it.

that doesn't look anything like the mockup at all.

we also expected something else. but we're not pressing the records. we're not a pressing plant. :) so we need to live with that result. and on the other hand: if you compare the packaging to the packaging of other labels it's still more extensive than 95% of the other stuff you can buy. we're trying our best. ;)

thanks a lot!

Oh I hope you didn't take that the wrong way.

There is a reason why everyone loves your label. There is a reason why I personally own so many of your records they are just amazing. Most of what I said was because of how bad we all want them.

And I get that pressing plants are the ones pressing it I was just making a comment because the mock up coincided with the artwork so well. I super psyched to get my copies of this.

nope. I absolutely didn't take that in the wrong way. we're always happy about constructive criticism. I just wanted to explain why things sometimes don't work out the way we want to have them. I also would be happy if we finally would have our releases available in some nice us vinyl stores or maybe the cds via some chains. but we're not releasing hype music which makes it pretty difficult to find a bigger distributor. their decisions are mostly based on money and not on interest in music.

artwork: yes. I was also a bit dissapointed as I saw the vinyl. I expected a different mixture as well.
