Grabbed a PIP ticket. Anyone got good info on record stores/good food/good bars, etc... in Austin? Hit me up if you wanna grab a drink down there, I'm gonna be looking to get wild.

PM me and i'll give you all the info you need. been here way too long.

record stores: go to waterloo or end of an ear. cheapo has some stuff every now and again, but they don't always have interesting stuff, but if you're at waterloo, might as well walk on over to cheapo while you're at it. but visit those 3 for sure.

food: dude i could talk all night about what to eat and where. you'd have to PM me for this.

bars: every awesome bar is nowhere near where you'll be at. but i don't know what you consider awesome. i like laid back, half empty bars with a good jukebox and people having conversation and talking amongst themselves. not crazy hipsters hanging out drinking the latest IPA and bullshitting about their first world problems.

if you're gonna go downtown and to a bar, i would say CASINO EL CAMINO or JACKALOPE on E. 6th. they have good food too, but the wait at casino is about an hour. and don't act like a tourist or else they'll treat you like one. they are pretty crass. Red River has almost no bars, it's almost all clubs, but there is a irish pub called Bull McCabes which is quite pleasant. 0ff 7th and red river is RED 7 (which is a transmission club) and most likely they'll have some after shows there so you can always go there and drink. its a cool club. Beerland is always awesome no matter who's playing. it's a shithole with a clean restroom. no lie. out of all the clubs in the downtown, that's one of the few i'd actually consider taking a shit in if i had too. Opal Devines is off west 6th and rio grande. thats more just a laid back hangout.

any other info and you can PM me.

too bad you won't be able to go to CHICKEN SHIT BINGO. tht is a fun time, cheap beer, chicken shit bingo raffles, and dale watson/red volkert playing the guitar makes for a good sunday afternoon.

This guy obviously knows Austin. Listen to him. The only thing I'd add is this BADASS bar called LaLa's that's a little off the beaten path. It's definitely good for unwinding after a long day. The place is covered from the floor up in Christmas decor and is run by older women with with a heavy handed pour. Great jukebox, too.

fuckin' love LALA's. probably my favorite bar. just a neighborhood run by two of the nicest old ladies. it's nowhere near downtown, but a favorite when i'm in the area. and yes, a bad ass jukebox of old tunes. not to mention the little green men that jiggle above the bar when someone goes through the restroom doors. haha.
