LASER TURNTABLE - No Needle, No Wear!

Recommended Posts

i wish the only option of turntables were laser ones. That way no one could make colored vinyl and everyone would have black. You either like the record/music or you dont.

but then i guess someone would just make limited covers or something to turn it back into a hobby "collection" anyway. so nevermind.

I was thinking about this as well given it would probably be difficult to reading transparent vinyl. But now that I think about it some more I bet they have some algorithm that calibrates the system before the record plays based on the color. Because, correct me if I'm wrong, but even all black vinyl isn't the same given there isn't one sole manufacturer of the black pellets. So I would imagine the system would have to account for small amounts of error due to the slight variances of black that would exist.

It would be interesting to see the variance in the signal from the laser that reads the grooves based on what color vinyl it is reading, that is if any variance exists.

@vinyljunkie

Im with you!

I am a fan of just black vinyl. I dont like it when a record is only pressed on color with no black option or when the black is the limited.

Just a preference but I wish all my records were just all black.

Picture discs are my very least favorite though. Speaking of, how would you play or calibrate for a picture disc or swirl or marble?

I was reading a bit about the opportunities and advantages of the blue laser, the same one being used for reading blu-ray disc.

I think that using this laser would create an even accurate way of reading the record. Only the question is, how can you do some reprocessing of data to eliminate pops and clicks without transforming it to digital data and then back to analog information.
