Guest
toyed with the new ipad today, and im considering the idea of replacing my macbook pro with it. i really havent paid much attention to any of the tablets at this point, so im relatively naive to them. so far the only real disadvantage i see to owning just the ipad is the memory.. 64gb, and no usb for an external. also considered buying a bluetooth keyboard for it, or even just a cheap notebook for the sake of owning an actual computer. thoughts? albert
Now I am no expert on tablets at all but from my limited knowledge in the area I have found that they are basically worthless for those that use programs Photoshop and Sony Vegas etc extensively. And also I doubt the CPU power is all that strong for multi tasking in general. Those are just my initial thoughts when someone brings up the topic. Personally I believe that tablets (or something similar to this technology) have a strong potential to (and most likely will) over take laptops. But as for right now I see them as impractical for tasks such as everyday photoshop use, video editing, word processing and multi tasking in general. I plan to wait until the technology becomes more versatile, powerful and practical for my demands.

Guest
and its hitting me now- ipad doesnt have torrent capability, does it?
hankmurphy
With an Android tablet you can use SD cards, use a second battery for emergencies, and torrent ... just saying.
jerseydave77
Love my iPad but it is not a replacement for my laptop. I use a lot of editing and graphics software so if you have any ideas beyond the basics you can't really sub one for the other.
shamrocks
yeah you can have an ipad but it would be fairly limiting if it were your only computing device. i love mine though
[[Delete this account]]
I bought a Kindle Fire, because it's cheap and I've never owned a tablet. I thought something cheap at first would be best, it's kinda good, but I still prefer my PC. An Ipad would be worlds different then a Fire though. hipsterasfolk
I wouldn't replace my laptop with my iPad, it serves more of a On-the-Go kind of device not a laptop replacement. i.e. Replace my Macbook w/ iPad and bought a 27" iMac. No use for laptop, but the need for a actually PC (desktop/laptop) still exists.

Don't want everyone knowing what kind and how much porn I look at.
kirbypuckett
An iPad is not a computer replacement. I did use it to replace my Macbook, but I still have a desktop computer. If I'm doing serious computing I'll use my computer, but any leisure activity, reading, surfing the web, etc... it's ALWAYS my iPad. I don't know how I could live without it. The battery feels unlimited, which is the biggest thing for me.
