Having problems removing stylus

Recommended Posts

I am currently using an Audio Technica AT-LP60. I've not had problems removing the stylus before, but ran into one last weekend.

The manual's instruction is to push the stylus assembly downward, and then slide it forward and out.

However, when I pushed it downward, the cartridge separated from the headshell moved downward as well, together with the stylus assembly, as it was 'stuck' to it.

When I next tried to slide the stylus assembly forward and out, the cartridge was still attached to it and moved out as well, until the wires behind the cartridge were visible, and any further force might damage the wires.

When I pushed the stylus and cartridge back to their original positions, my records still play fine.

The main problem here is the inability to separate the stylus assembly from the cartridge, making me unable to remove the stylus.

Any tips/advice?

Were you able to get the cartridge back in place? Also, find a cover for your stylus. Keeps dirt out.

And lastly, if your stylus is THAT dirty... they make cleaners too.

Yes, I am able to get it back in place and play records, and I also managed to get the dirt off.

It just bugs me that I'm unable to remove the stylus assembly, because I am supposed to be able to. There's probably something wrong with the cartridge's alignment with the assembly...
