I believe the following thread should clear up all pertinent questions you might have:
-
Anthem for No State trilogy is the really winner here. Special stuff. Sounds like a really solid effort after 1 listen.

there aren't really any post rock elements anymore as that's what made this band unique; post rock emo or whatever the fuck
VERY concerned about this. on an old gray binge right now and just looking for more post rock/emo mix type stuff so that is disheartening to hear.

Good thing no one asked the question that I didn't answer, then!
And, it also does fit in thematically and lyrically with some of their other stuff. Brother's Song for example. They rarely branch off into the political, I'll grant you that... but the political/religious rhetoric has been heavy in Brand New's last 4 releases (including the demos and SF).
Oh yeah wasn't blaming you, just kind of exclaiming that rhetorically, because after digging deep into what (I think) are some of the themes of TDAG and their previous work, I initially thought the song was more likely to be genuine than satirical (not the right word), which obviously baffled me due to the directness of the lyrics. Was thinking "good thing they have their own label" if the lyrics were genuine, cause divergent political views are a death sentence in this industry.

It's an anti-bible thumper song. It's from the point of view of a "pious" or religious man who is wary of the outside world's influence on the "righteous" man he is raising. Talking about how he's ready for liberal bleeding hearts to come and take away his freedoms and he'll shoot 'em if they try.
All he's got is faith and family, and he's protecting his family and land from the dangers of the liberals! He only believes the half of what he reads that fits his ideology and so he digs in deep on his arguments without seeing the other side.
He raised his son to be righteous and fear God (who hates gays!) - the path that he and his son will walk is narrow and straight and he won't let his son go astray (or he'll disown him hence the "don't come running to me when the come for you" hinting that the son disagrees with his father on this stuff.
Scared to give up his gun because he has to defend himself from the big gay army! the bleeding hearts are gonna come and lead his son astray. And if his son joins them, he'll put a bullet in him.
The POV in the song is from the "righteous" father, but the focus is the son who has gone "astray" (in the fathers' eyes).
I agree with how you've classified the song, but it in no way explains how Brand New wrote it. The lyrics simply do not fit any of their previous catalogue, in any way (style or substance). the most blatant lyrics theyve ever written, and the only song of theirs that reminds me what year it is when listening to it (references to "bleeding hearts" etc). very out of character

"American Attraction" song is absolute trash. i think thats pretty objective after just a cursory listen. Man, i miss how they sounded on The Terror State. Slightly more honest lyrics back then too, but any punk band who claims to be anarcho-/anti-imperial/whatever and still telling you to vote does not know what they are talking about, or is just lying.

Unsolicited take on this: Your scenario is the fiction. Brand New breaks up in 2018. They sell out a 3 show run of "Final Shows Ever" at Madison Square Garden. Kids fly in from all over the world. The butthurt is felt across the galaxy when the band only plays songs off of Science Fiction.
In 2028, they headline Space Coachella because theyve all run out of money and the most recent repress of Deja Entendu wasnt enough to send all their kids to college.
James Murphy approves this message.

Right up until the moment you need one, right?
only immigrants and low-income people in the USA call the police. everyone else knows better than to involve the road pirates in their personal affairs.

That looks like a great setup, but I'm sure I could already fill that storage space three times.
if you can fill it three times but can't afford $900 of high-end storage space, idk what youre doing.

Another importCDs sale on eBay: 15% off $60+
This sale has more titles than the one that ran in June. Any record they sell at <$30 normally is included.
I wonder if this is the 10th anniversary pressing, because if so, that price is pretty amazing. just hope its not the pic disc:

this thread needs to be exterminated. nothing of substance has been posted for months

this is just the height of irony. ill say I love TWIABP's music, especially whenever, if ever and harmlessness. i havent read any of the social media nonsense, but the notion that TWIABP's music is all about spending time with friends, family and being out in nature (or that is at least the feeling I get from their music) and there is an all-out social media war going on between members (impersonal internet fighting, former friends) is just kind of ironic to me, i guess.

Just noticed this up for PO on Amazon, and I will be picking it up. First repress since the original in 2002 i believe, and it is hard to find a decent copy for under $50 or probably more. When I used to buy CD's for the hit singles as a kid, this is one of those albums I picked up. The other tracks have really grown on me over the last few years, so to me it will be worth having. I recommend giving the album a play through if you were at all into late 90's early 00's alt rock. A good mix of heavier stuff and slower psychedelic-type stuff.

hahaha, no.
The website, which had been expired, is active again however. Also, the website (which is surely true and accurate) says they are on schedule for a spring 2017 release - I think that ship has sailed again. I'm having the strangest sense of deja vu. Thankfully this time around I don't have any money invested in the outcome.
2 more days to fulfill that spring 2017 release promise. I am highly confident they'll meet that goal.

Guessing the whole Dream Catalogue "under new management" was just HKE passing management duties on to a different one of his aliases. This type of backhanded activity reeks of his involvement.
