I try it once every few months just to see if it's better than I recall, or to see if it'll clock like other albums have mysteriously done at random, as time goes on.  I'm still getting nothing over here.  I don't think it's inherently bad music, nor am I weighing it against its hype.  It just doesn't ever reach a moment that leaves a lasting impression on my end.  I know I'm in a minority but it's whatever.  Not a record I'm forcing myself to like, but also not so terrible that I need to delete it off my HD.  Somewhere firm between the two.

This is exactly how I feel about it

Because you clearly don't like them.  There is a huge fan base of people who unironically enjoy their output, you not understanding that does not make the hype less real.

Again, all I have said is that the amount of hype was overblown. I'm not questioning that there exists a dedicated fan base. You are correct that I don't appreciate much of their material. I am not even commenting on the merits of being a fan. All I said and continue to say is that the hype for this release which included a hundreds of dollars super deluxe pressing of each track on an individual 12", and the resulting sales volume for said deluxe edition, wasnt warranted. The proof of this is evident on this very board in the numerous people having second thoughts about even waiting for their super deluxe (still 4 months away mind you) rather than cancelling their order. i have no beef with these british apes. I'm just amused when I recall the raving that occurred in this very thread when the pre-order dropped.

The repress has nothing to do with it.

People were hyped before they even knew a repress of DDs was coming. Gorillaz gets played all over the radio (at least in the cities I visit).  People who like Gorillaz did not forget about them, it sounds like you simply don't like Gorillaz.

Fair enough. To me, it simply doesn't justify the amount of hype that was seen on these and other boards for a new album as if its the second coming. Many of the features were very offputting to me after just seeing the tracklist. My point being that just because you and I still hear Feel Good Inc on the radio once in a while and laugh when someone plays Clint Eastwood at the bar, that doesnt make a new Gorillaz album any more relevant in 2017,  despite the flashy vinyl packages and kewl kartoonz.

This mentality is very confusing for me. Say you hated Beach House, OK, Money Trees is still a boss track

a sample is vastly different from a feature, and bono seems to leave a noticeable (unfavorable to many people) mark on any track he sings on. This combined with the current trend of mainstream rappers pairing with mainstream singers from a completely different genre, makes me think bono will be singing, and I won't like it. Sadly, just another sign kendrick is going over the edge to total mainstream sellout. Some people will not like that or agree, but it is what it is.

If it's a sample it could be alright.

If it's a bono chorus or some shit it's gonna be dumb.

i doubt the artist would be featured on the tracklist if it was just a sample.

So people are making the argument that others only say/think kendrick is the best rapper bc his superiority in album sales and popularity? Hm. If anything, his popularity and album sales reflect his ability.

If I believed that, I'd think people actually wanted Donald or Hillary to be president. Of course, as I live in the real world, what the media tells me does not always = reality.

B4DA$$ is nowhere near as good as TPAB and you're crazy if you think so

based on what? the grammy's or itunes album reviews? both are wrong is the point. i agree on danny brown being polarizing, cannot listen to his full albums either. but all i saw was people trying way too hard last year to turn TPAB  into some kind of social justice warrior race-relations inspired illmatic. it wasnt that
