Thanks all who offered suggestions. That was a huge help.

I ended up in Austin for 3 days but most of that was work, so I only had brief pockets of time to do fun stuff. I visited 3 different record stores and I also got to hang out at Austin City Limits and eat free food, watch live music, and browse their photo gallery upstairs.

The first place I went was Waterloo Records!

I loved this shop. It was right in the heart of the action in town, big, well organized, and there were a lot of sale bins and used new arrivals. I picked up a shirt and two records here:

Defiance, Ohio - Great Depression LP used for $8
Busman's Holiday - A Long Goodbye LP (VIP version) only $10 brand new

I didn't notice the inflated prices like mentioned earlier but I was mostly looking in their used and sale sections. I did notice that there were a ton of teen kids there looking for records and it was pretty packed in general.

I also went to End of an Ear.

It's in a less busy part of town by the highway. I loved this shop too. Lots of records and many good prices. If I lived in Austin, this would be my go to place. Less busy than Waterloo. I got two shirts and two records:

Damien Jurado - Maraqopa LP new, it was only $13 so I grabbed it
Talking Heads - Little Creatures LP used for $8, not my favorite record by them but I dig it and have been meaning to pick up a cheap used copy

I also went to Encore Records but, to be honest, I didn't like it very much. It was located in a sketchy abandoned part of town (this was around 8-9pm at night on a Saturday). I didn't find anything I would want to pick up. A lot of the used records were shredded dollar bin style LPs (mixed in there was better used stock). Some of the prices I saw were average to high. If I dropped the ball on Encore, let me know and I'd be glad to check it out again if I find myself back in Austin.

Great trip overall. Food wise, we went to Lamberts one night for dinner. Their short rib was awesome. We went to Juan in a Million for breakfast and it was alright. I think I'm already spoiled with Mexican food as a half-Mexican person who lives in Los Angeles. The capitol building was fun to walk around. Cool city.

    Defiance Ohio is great

But pragmatically the use of the word "limited" on records is usually a completely empty selling point buzzword.  Especially now. Sorry.

Are you suggesting the idea of limited variants does not draw people in to purchasing certain records, who otherwise would be unlikely to purchase a "standard" "non-limited" pressing? Because I would have to strongly disagree with that.

Does it really change anything for you and your direct relationship with those pieces of plastic with music etched in them?

The word "limited" really doesn't mean much in today's economy. If they can afford to make more and believe they can sell the numbers they produce, they're going to make more and sell more. In every market. Not just vinyl records. What does it matter to you if it was ever limited or is less limited now than it was when you purchased it.

If the vacuum world you are describing was reality, labels wouldnt have any desire to list releases as limited, because no one buying the products would care how limited something was. of course, that is not reality. dumb argument

Please don't misinterpret my amusement with morning shit-posting as being sensitive – a lot of us on VC during weekday mornings are here to kill time, boredom, or likely both.  And if you hadn't noticed, the last Used thread or two that I've "fueled" have turned into raging tire fires that were locked sooner than later.  There could very well be a method to the madness, no?

    no

and also, isn't the 2015 version missing the etching on the last side? at least from what i've seen pictures. i've been meaning to buy one myself, just to have in my Volta collection, bootleg or not.

i don't recall, but the discogs listing seems to agree with you " Unofficial reissue in triple gatefold cover with printed innersleeves, side F is not etched". It was a great package when I got it shipped for ~$50, unfortunately most sellers are in Europe, but if you can stomach the shipping costs (if youre in the US like me) these prices arent horrendous:

Thanks, glad to know it at least was not just me. Too bad because it could be an awesome tool to have if it worked at all since the majority of the employee's at my store have pretty much zero interest in helping at all if it involves any effort whatsoever.

Pretty sure that is the exact aesthetic UO tries to deliver with their branding.... "Apathy towards pretty much everything, bro."

  7. Didn't find a post on this, so here goes. Dreaded when I saw this was on Pledge Muzak but it looks like there are some pretty good prices, especially for the two signed copies for just 60 bones. I think these were each last available RSD 2012.

Each limited to 1000 copies on clear.

    From the site:

"On January 27, 2017, Double Feature will release limited clear vinyl editions (1,000 copies only) of Luna’s last two albums, 2002’s Romantica and 2004’s Rendezvous. Both LPs come with download cards. "

I didn't see any non-signed copies on Pledge Musick so maybe those are available elsewhere, potentially cheaper.

    Hello everyone.

If you placed an order with us and you had planned on re-selling the records at a record fair, please email us directly at [email protected].

If you placed an order with us and you did not intend to re-sell the records at a record fair, then you are a douche. Grab your ankles, bend down, and give your butthole a clean scrub. Then tell your dad to do the same.

I look forward to hearing from you.

constant use of "douche", talking about record fairz and incessant incest jokes gives boops away. not that we didnt know already

I sell to Europeans/Canadians/Australians pretty often via Discogs and don't think anything has cost over $30 to ship via USPS International First Class. This includes shipping and tracking.

Price check it here - https://ircalc.usps.com/

If it is cheaper you can purchase/print out the label/custom form from home and just drop it in a blue mailbox like you would any other package. Bada bing bada boom.

i dont think internashy first class has tracking

yes, but when judged against one's love of the record, how can that make a difference. I wouldn't pay more than $25 for a new record, so they paid 100% more than I would. see what moving the goal posts does? @rogeoa8

yes. and i love the mars volta. i paid between $50-100 for most of their albums... but i wouldnt have paid $100-200... i would WAIT until reasonable options become available. to say there is no difference is to say we are each playing with infinite monay.
