  1. Afraid i am going to disagree the debut is an entry level turntable so i would go for a mid range table like the rp6 pr rp9 to get a good sound from your vinyl. My entry level dual 505 mk4 had a rather flat or sat on sound and i really enjoyed the upgrade to my project perspective. Certainly the cleaner is a good idea though since it preserves your vinyl for use in the future. I have a spinclean and a knosti antistat manual cleaners.
  2. Dont know what the local pricing is like for the 1200 as i am in the UK. Yes it is better than the carbon from what i have read. The main reason to buy one is the upgradability. There seems to be loads of mods or upgrades for the technics in the UK magazines.
  3. There is "spin clean" and knosti disco antistat manual cleaning baths. Not the cheapest but you only buy the solution after you get the bath. £60 in the uk.
  4. My dual 505 mk4 was a suspended deck so it should be reasonably well isolated already. Maybe the suspension has seen better days then? Bluetack is always a first try/cheap way of isolating equipment . I still have it under my speakers
  5. Yes i was thinking about VTA because it cannot be adjusted on my Project perspective. Seems like people think it will not make a difference which is a relief
  6. Grrrr I have just realised I have bought a test record which is 180gm vinyl Since most vinyl is 120gm? is it going to give me inaccurate results with tracking etc? thanks Martin
  7. Rather avoid ebay as you never know if its second hand slightly damaged stock
  8. allenh: I see you are from the UK. Is there any online shop that you would recommend for a new cartridge? Nagoaka seems to be thin on the ground in the UK
  9. Dont really no what they are and wouldnt another box degrade the fragile/ very low output signal further? Going to stick with MM its just a case of which one.
  10. Is the denon a moving coil? I only have a creek obh8 phono stage which is moving magnet only
  11. Cartridge for a Project perspective Turntable Hello, I have a project perspective turntable which cost £750 back in 2001 and would like to upgrade the cartridge which is a goldring 1012gx. What sort of price range would complement a turntable of this quality? In hifi world uk magazine they did a group test of cartridges in the range of £150 to £235 and are described as affordable cartridges. The Nagoaka MP-150 at £229 came out the best with the orotofon 2m blue £170 as a secondary choice. Are these cartridges the sort of range i should be looking at or am I under estimating the quality of my TT? thanks for your time Martin ________
  12. Amplifiers tend have the least affect on sound quality compared to the rest of the audio chain so I would look for features like number of inputs, size etc if I was you.
  13. The ion TTs are so cheap that they are likely to be damaging your records as you play them. So the first upgrade is to stop any more damage. There is a cheaper project than the carbon its called the elemental http://www.superfi.co.uk/p-13708-project-elemental-turntable.aspx The carbon however is of a standard that it can be a good basis for future upgrades like a better cartridge, If you can afford it the carbon would be my buy
  14. Going to replace my goldring 1012 soon and also on the look out for carts. Hifiworld magazine in the uk recommends the nagaoka 150 for £240 over the ortofon blue. Clearaudio cart also was recommended but only if you could alter the VTA. The goldring 1022 didnt compare too well against those 3 carts
  15. Looks like its in good condition. If it works fine, it will be better value than what you can get for 100 new.
  16. I have used mine for ages so i cannot remember using a TT without one. I have a shure gauge for my project Perspective TT
  17. Earth the carbon fibre brush by touching something that is grounded like a radiator. Higher humidity also helps reduce static if you have a humidifier.
  18. I expect it will be the stylus as well. After you clean it with alcohol (gin can work on the cheap) and it still distorts you will need to buy a new stylus
  19. I would think what ever the modern equivalent to a rega planar 2 (P2?) would be the entry level TT for an idea of some of the strengths of vinyl in comparison to cd.
