  1. The hassle of selling and buying isn't worth it IMO for the Rega, you'd be more cost effective selling one and upgrading speakers and cartridge then modding your remaining TT. Pick up a proper preamp as well. Speed stability has always been an issue with Regas, your Technics wipes the floor in that regard, materials wise yes not as an advanced arm but still pretty good. Manual belt change would annoy me also. I had a high end semi-auto Dual (well still do) before getting an SL-1200 MK2, enjoying my records more than ever now. The MK5s are a rarer table now I wouldn't want to part with them.
  2. So you have separate speakers and amp but no preamp/phono in? Pick up a used TT in that range and you'll have something nice, used Pro-ject or Rega can be done on Ebay. What's your local Gumtree like? Might be something there. If you want to go new there are a few options, Pro-Ject Elemental is pretty basic or an Audio Technica AT-LP120 has built in pre. That said built in preamps will always be poor, if you could get a used TT with decent cart for £100-150 and then pick up a good preamp new or used I think then you'd maximise your cash.
  3. Yeah I got a bit annoyed at the reply but I'm cool about it, this guy needs help and I don't understand why people need to take bad attitudes with it. Just make a quick post pointing them in the right direction is the easiest way to deal with it. The 95e probably is at its limits here and that Queen LP might well be well played, that's why I suggested testing with some other LPs to prove the alignment. Stylus wear is eliminated I guess because it is new. Hopefully Currrbell gets to the bottom of the problem.
  4. It isn't an audio performance issue, it's a set up issue that they need help with. The AT-LP120 is a 1200 clone that is perfectly capable of playing a record flawlessly so drop the stupid fucking attitude. I don't know what it is about this forum and people like you with shitty attitudes but I guess this is why this place is avoided. You are the classic sad idiot with big fish small pond syndrome, telling people how their tables are poor. Why not post something useful? You were completely incorrect in your first statement, deal with it and move on.
  5. To stop the signal running through circuits full of resistors and capacitors it doesn't need to, if you can't grasp how that would help then I don't think you are knowledgeable enough to be commenting on the tables' performance. I wonder if you even know the performance spec of that table. The guy has a problem with sibilance not audio performance, you seem to find this hard to grasp. I'll give you the benefit of the doubt for now. Out of interest, what turntable do you use and with what cart?
  6. To be honest he's got a tricky LP to track there with Mercury's vocals, I've never used that cart but maybe it's at its limits performance wise. It could be the LP. Listen to a few LPs with high pitched vocalists and see how they sound. For what it is worth you want to be using baerwald protractor and make you print it to the same scale. Using that it also ended exactly where my overhang should be. slinch: That table is fine, plenty good enough. I think you are massively exaggerating. It has zero to do with the circuits. Slap a better cart on it and it will be perfectly good for playback, they can always mod it to bypass the internal preamp circuit and have a reasonable sl-1200 clone.
  7. Bit of a douchey reply while barely reading their post there, congrats. Currrbell: The S sound issue you hear is sibilance and means you need to align the cartridge, you can get printable protractors to put on you platter to align your cartridge. Bring the VTF back down to middle of the range this isn't the answer. Have you balanced the the tonearm and set the weight correctly? If you are unsure youtube it, you have an sl-1200/1210 clone so those will work for guides too. Here's a couple of links: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jizk-3JGzag https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SJelRnSv1Kk Feel free to ask any questions.
  8. Definitely noticed that on the digital version, not very professional.
  9. If you really wanted to get away from IGD you should have bought the 440 not the 120.
  10. I've tried both Stenvenson and Baerwald protractors on my SL-1200 and still not really experienced noticeable distortion or sibilance at any point. There are many ways you can align depending what your preference is, I really want a test record to test the limits and set my anti-skate correctly.
  11. Not true, the 440MLa is very balanced and has plenty of bass. The stylus is also microline which is much better imo. IGD does not exist with the 440 and it wears less due to the angled profile. There are drawbacks like having to be more careful with scratched records as it damages easier. Both great cartridges though, the styluses are interchangeable.
  12. Loads of good direct drive quartz lock tables everywhere here in the UK and can be had under £100. Someone on my local Gumtree had a pristine SL-Q3 for £60 the other week. You can get used Pro-Jects under £150 too.
  13. The 440 isn't bright it is just very detailed and tracks the highs very well. Love mine.
  14. Very vague and who gives a shit about audiophiles. Diminishing returns means they are wrestling over shit I can't even hear. Bear in mind i own a high spec belt drive and an SL-1200. List these issues.
  15. AT-440MLa is the best cart I've owned so far, I had a Shure m97xE before and hated it. Tried altering capacitance and even change preamp it was just boring and terrible. The AT carts are just so much more engaging and the highs are great, also microline stylus makes those inner grooves sound perfect. I also have two AT-110e carts which are great for the price.
  16. Orbit is a joke to me. "We're gonna make a $150 TT!" Actual minimum price for most basic crap version $180. Then you have to wait months for it to arrive and people still buy em. With the price of the upgrades you can buy far superior tables with carbon fibre arms etc. Are used Technics hard to come by near you?
  17. What's wrong with DD? Good direct drive is fucking awesome. Looking at this table it seems to come from the same factory as the LP-120, the wow and flutter spec is not bad but doesn't touch the SL-1200. Made in China so beware and wait for reviews.
  18. The 1200 was designed as a hi-fi deck, the specs and design were top of the line Technics. To call it a DJ table is false.
  19. Audio chain: Dual CS-750 Audiophile Concept -> Audio-Technica AT-440MLa -> Rega Phono MM -> Rotel RC-970BX -> Rotel RB-970BX -> Monitor Audio BR2 Getting the light right in this room is a nightmare but some pics:
  20. I caught an M97xE with a cloth once, snapped the cantilever. Was kinda glad because it meant I was free from being bored of all music played back by horrible Shure carts.
  21. Probably has pressure switches on the platter to let it know what size record you have on. Slight warp possibly not confirming it has a record on there or something similar. Read part of this thread so this may have been said already but I got bored of reading all the piss take.
  22. No order as that would be impossible for me: Deftones - White Pony (Tied with ATF really) Idlewild - 100 Broken Windows My Vitriol - Finelines (Shoegaze infused hard rock masterpiece) Tom Vek - Leisure Seizure (Massively underrated and his new track is immense) Smashing Pumpkins - Siamese Dream Pearl Jam - Vs Hum - You'd Prefer An Astronaut Porcupine Tree - Stupid Dream (Could have gone with In Absentia here, can't split em) Pete Yorn - Day I Forgot Matthew Good - Avalanche Honourable mentions: Foo Fighters - There Is Nothing Left To Lose The Smiths - Meat Is Murder (Johnny Marr is a song writing genius.) Bob Dylan - The Times They Are A-Changin' Stone Temple Pilots - Purple Alice In Chains - Dirt Rush - Moving Pictures Pantera - Far Beyond Driven Mock Orange - Mind Is Not Brain Third Eye Blind - Blue Meshuggah - Nothing Yeah 10 isn't enough. This probably changes on a monthly basis
