  1. Matt Wallace explains much of it in the vid I've linked below but my take on it it quite simple. They separated the sound so the thing lacks the denseness which made the heavy tracks work, they turned the guitars down and the vocals up, they increased the pitch. Some people love it. The quality of the vinyl, sleeves etc is exceptional. I don't like it much at all.
  2. Now it's only overpriced by $225! Been playing a lot of Puzzle Quest lately. Forgot I had it, addictive little thing. Also BF4.
  3. The only musical difference is that the Anniversary Edition has the bonus LP. The musical content of the 45rpm records are both pressed from the same DMM master made by Pallas GmbH in Germany for Pallas USA in association with Furnace Mfg. They come from difference stampers though, but that is about it. All it is, is a stripped down version sans the bonus disc marketed in a new sleeve and a new subtitle. Similar to when Alive released The Big Come Up in a negative sleeve. It;s just a contrast and helps market the item further. All they;ve done is extend the sales life of the record.
  4. Same mix, both use the same lacquers from the Abbey remastering sessions last year. Cut to DMM. http://www.thelmagazine.com/TheMeasure/archives/2013/09/25/nirvanas-in-utero-2013-mix-examined http://www.nirvana.com/news/nirvana-in-utero-20th-anniversary-reissue-out-september-24 - read the second bullet point. Stories like this: http://www.rollingstone.com/music/news/nirvanas-in-utero-2013-mix-headed-to-vinyl-20131009 ... have misled some into thinking that the anniversary edition and the 2013 remix are different cuts, they;re not. Read the full thread and you'd be better informed.
  5. Same stampers, so if anything these black covered RSD issues as production continued with stampers wearing out will get progressivbely worse towards the end of the run.
  6. I went through every copy and I after consulting with Discogs staff we were not satisfied that ANY were the repress. As such we removed them all but one which we are waiting for a reply on. It appears that absolutely no copies of Blue were recalled. As such the seller personally asked for a replacement disc, they won't have one. We also found that the one copy that sold through Discogs was also really the mispressed version sold on the wrong page. Remember sealed only means sealed and that the packaging on these is resealable. Look for a confirmed copy which has been checked, perhaps on ebay? When is the last time anyone with the mispress contacted MOV? They may still be replacing them?!
  7. It was myself who reported the problem to them and they just sent me a replacement disc (they actually sent me two). They then asked people to return the faulty record and sent it back with disc 1 replaced. I;ve never seen the replacement available from a distributor as some of those Discogs sellers claim. They claim their distributors say they are repressed but not a single one would agree to check the record because it is "sealed". If I was an customer and ordered one of these I would demand a full refund personally as the item is faulty. Edit: I have also asked MOV directly if repressed/fixed version were sent out to distributors and they have not responded to this and several other queries since they had a tantrum of me adding the single replacement disc to Discogs as a standalone item following advice directly from the Discogs management. Whether people approaching them now are told to get a refund from the seller is another matter, my last comments with MOV was not along those lines and advised that they did not want to discourage direct contact.
  8. Amazon in the UK are always doing this. This is the marketplace page for the fixed Angel Dust pressing on Discogs. I try to clean it up and have asked users selling this to confirm how they know it is the repress. None so far have confirmed the correct runout/matrix inscription but most refused to check because the item is sealed. You could ask some of the sellers to check the vinyl incription for side B to ensure you're getting the repress/2nd press. You'll probably hit abrick wall though as I am also after another repressed copy. Album of the year, Golden Edition: http://www.discogs.com/marketplace?release_id=4822602&ev=rb 11 copies for sale.
  9. I'm surprised you didn't like that cut. Polygram Record Services in Germany had some wonderful staff and made some absolutely phenomenal records. I've not hear their cut of In Utero but is it the pressing or just a crap final cut that was sent to everyone at the time? I know that their pressing of Faith No More's Introduce Yourself on Metronome Records was one of the best versions I've heard.
  10. The same lacquer was used for the Black Friday version as the Anniversary edition, just a new stamper used. There is absolutely no sound difference between the RSD version and the Anniversary Editon. Both were mastered using DMM.
  11. If people wanted that to happen (I want a B-sides album) I;m not sure who you'd petition. I don;t think the band get much say on their old catalogue any more and Warner seem to be a nightmare to contact.
  12. The last time WCAL was meant to be reissued it was meant to be part of a CD reissue series by Warner called "Forever Young" in Japan, last year. Two weeks before shipping the release was cancelled. I'm not certain, but it's probably because of issues between Mordam Records who owned the rights, London Records who were the last licensees (they leapfrogged Slash) which bsically cust Slash and Warner out of the loop) and Warner who now handle the Slash catalogue in Europe. If London maintained the rights when the catalogue transferred to Universal around 2003, then Warner will not be able to release it without significant struggle. I suspect that Warner cannot get a license for it.
  13. Black vinyl version: Front. Rear. Sticker. Face label. The inserts below are the same for the red marbled and standard vinyl:
  14. Red marbled version: Front. Rear. Numbering and boilerplate information. Sticker. The vinyl. Face label. Matrix.
  15. I just gave all four vinyl copies I own a comparative listen. The two Music On Vinyl reissues from 2013, the original 1995 red vinyl UK edition and the original US 1995 edition. The black and the red marbled Music On Vinyl 2013 reissues are identical. They're stamped with the same plates so this was as expected. I would imagine that as the black run goes on and they produce more, the quality will start to fade. As the red marbled version is limited and already sold out, they should all sound as good as the best black reissue. Music On Vinyl and "Record Industry" have done a good job here. The thing is quite tight sounding, good dynamics but perhaps sounds a little too lean and controlled for my taste. I then played the original UK red vinyl edition. This was pressed by a company that was responsible for some truly awful records. Any 7" coloured vinyl UK Faith No More record was pressed by them and they are all awful. I'm Easy/Be Aggressive is the worst sounding record I've heard apart from the Mr. Bungle reissues on Plain Recordings. The vinyl mastering and cut wasn't done at Masterdisk by Howie Weinberg like the US vinyl versions and the CD version sent around the world. It was mastered by Jack Adams. The cut is loud, a little looser and very dynamic. There's no sign of problems with bleeding or bottoming out which some say hot records suffer from. This was mastered hot, but not so far as to harm the resulting sound. The record sounds wilder because of this and I prefer it to the Music On Vinyl reissues. I then played the original US version. Mastered and cut by Masterdisk by Howie Weinberg and pressed by Specialty Records Corporation. More punchy than both the UK red vinyl edition and the two identical reissues, the thing seems more alive. I'm not certain, but I think there's a very subtle pitch increase too. It's mastered hot like the UK version but with better definition and separation. Not as wild as the UK version either but still feral enough to get your blood pumping. In comparison the reissues sound like they're relaxing a touch and lack a bit of vitality. They're still extremely good, it's just that I think the SRC pressing from 1995 is probably perfect offering a balance between the extreme wildness of the UK pressing which is so close to perfect and the MOV reissues which just fall short of greatness. The issue is the US pressing is quite expensive and so is the UK pressing and given the cost.price discrepancy, the sound improvement which is not massive between all four versions does not mitigate the difference. What I would say is this. If you own one of the original 1995 pressings, you've no need to rush out and get either of the reissues. If you don't own any of them, considering the cost of the originals, the reissues are a very very good buy.
  16. I'm not sure why anyone would love DMM? The only true benefit is that most DMM lathes are in the hands of very competent people.
  17. Unfortunately the KFAD box set might as well have been pressed on slate. 33rpm 7" is just...gah! it's a good example of 7" 33rpm pressing but that's like saying a person looks good considering they've cut their own face off. In the grand scheme it is woeful. I'm unsure where you reside but there's a few copies for sale here: http://www.discogs.com/sell/list?release_id=2154630&ev=rb N
  18. They are CD and Cassette only bonus tracks just like War Pigs and Edge Of The World, two other songs which could make it onto a B-sides albums IMO. I have an exclusive mix on a CD produced via Nimbus in the USA at the behest of Quadim Corporation for Reprise (quite strange that Nimbus was used since they tended to press via SRC). Anyway it doesn't appear anywhere else, just on the promo I picked up. I added it to Youtube last year: Personally I'd add remixes to a separate LP or two. For me the B-side project could span several discs: Sweet Emotion The Perfect Crime New Improved Song I Started A Joke (never pressed on vinyl and was a compilation and single track only). Absolute Zewro Greenfields Spanish Eyes I wanna Fuck Myself Let's Lynch The Landlord Das Schutzenfest Evidence (Spanish version) As The Worm Turns Another Body Murdered The Big Kahuna Light Up And Let Go The following tracks were bonus tracks for the CD and cassette versions and not official pressed as part of the alvbum apart from the Angel Dust ones which were later added to the Mofi pressing of AD and the MOV reissie and could be valid bonus additions to a bigger set: Edge Of The World war Pigs The Grade Cowboy Song Crack Hitler Midnight Cowboy These tracks were the bonus tracks from Who Cares A Lot and were never comitted to vinyl: The World Is Yours Hippie Jam Song Instrumental I Won't Forget you Introduce Yourself (4 Track demo) Highway Star Theme From midnight Cowboy (Live) This Guy's In Love With You (Live).
  19. This is an issue. I asked the same thing of MOV because I wanted the black version but didn't want to get another mispress, so I asked them directly. Sadly I didn't get a response as there seemed to be a bit of tension between myself and MOV over the inclusion of a replacement record on the Discogs database. I don;lt want to put too fine a point in the replacement disc, but it was already on the database, I had already consulted with the database manager and was advised it could not be removed. In any case, my main query was not replied to. MOV acted professionally regarding my main issue and repressed the records and sent me replacement discs for my two blue versions. I kept the original mispressed discs as did a handful of initial complainants. Soon they changed the process and asked for the whole release back and returned it to customers without the mispressed record but with the replacement disc. At random I've been asking sellers to check their copies for the repressed disc (black only) and so far each seller has said that either they were told by their suppliers (not MOV I should add) that they had the repressed disc but upon inspection found it was the mispress or they simply found they had the mispressed version. I've yet to source a repressed version out in the wild which leads me to believe that people are only getting them from MOV or via complaints with their vendors who then source a replacement. Though I'm willing to bet the majority of those vendors who receive a complaint will simply refund the buyer and sell the thing again without ever trying to source a replacement disc. With this in mind, there may be repressed copies out there but I'm not seeing them. To obtain a properly pressed version of this album is overly complicated.
  20. Trying to get a copy that is not mis-pressed is not easy. So you'd be entering a bit of a gamble.
  21. That thing sounds good for 7" set, but it's awful compared to the CD version. Same here. I have the red European copy and the black US copy. Been meaning to pick up the Greek black pressing but never found a decent price.
