  1. The US pressing of KFAD is about as good as it could be. If MOV come close then well done but it was perfect before.
  2. Got Introduce Yourself. Sounds really good so far. Just going through my first play of it. It's a lovely bright yellow irl.
  3. Vinyl mastering is very important. Trying to say that vinyl's perceived superiority over other formats is misjudged, but I understand where you;re coming from. There is inherent supriority, but it needs to be unlocked by the engineer and the lacquer needs to be cut properly or the mastering technician needs to master correctly for DMM. Trying to say it's all about mastering is partly true, but trying to say it;s nothing to do with the format is not credible. For the record most modern vinyl sounds inferior to the CD due to production values and automated vinyl mastering which results in flat sounding and not noisy records. See Plain Recordings output via Rainbo Records when the mastering was done in house, see the same of GZ/Pirates Press. Both plants output is massive but woeful if not supplied with plates made by reputable engineers. Precisely.
  4. Just to advise that some people including myself had quite a bit of surface noise with the gold record but plenty of people have very clean sounding copies. The black didn't have the noise for me when I say surface noise, it wasn't significant and I enjoyed the gold pressing immensely (more than the original pressing by MPO in 1997) and didn't let it spoil things. The black I raved about and still think it;s great. But, if the gold copy was as good as some people sahy here, then I'd prefer that because "it's purty", Discgos has lots of golden edition copies for sale: http://www.discogs.com/sell/list?release_id=4822602&ev=rb Remember to PM the seller before buying to ensure they definitely have the golden edition if not already stated in their seller notes.
  5. It's not a simple remaster. For one different intros and outros are used, Dumb lacks the cello in the chorus and Serve The Servants has a different solo. A remaster? Yes. Original master tapes? yes, but not the same cuts. This is another discussion but you're way off the mark. Particularly since the merits of Flac of even an mp3 encoded well to a moderate and not even high bitrate are imperceptible to the human ear as many blind tests have proven. It makes audiophiles happy though because their computer programs can show the visual difference. Amazon Autorip does not claim to do vinyl ripping, instead it offers you a free download of the album you;re meant to be buying. Same content and not necessarily a literal rip. The least I'd expect from an Autorip of the 3LP is the same tracks ripped from the CD version - unfortunately they offer you the original 12 track MP3 set they've sold for the last whatever amount of years. Yes. Here are all the details of it including images I uploaded this morning: http://www.discogs.com/Nirvana-In-Utero/release/4927358 There quite a few differences.
  6. I'm not sure what the sources are, but for one they do sound better than the CD. All of them so far have been excellent. I know that Album Of Thear seems to use a different cut for some of the tracks, but unsure why that is and where they came from. I know that Record industry when pressing these make their own DMMs. They seem to be working closely with Warner on these.
  7. The vinyl is not as spectacular as the promotional mock-ups would lead you to believe, but in hand it's still very nice.
  8. The European version didn't come with a download. I had a deal with Amazon so cancelled the Norman Records order and the Amazon autorip for the 3LP set is the standard original MP3 of the album and not the remastered and recut version.
  9. I think that would be a waste of time unless Warner would let them access the whole master tape and release the set in full. They didn't even do that for the video though.
  10. I got this mailshot too and was taken aback when they said "SILVER". I'm sure it;s a typo. Also The image use for The Real Thing here doesn't do it any justice. Someone added a nice shot on Discogs.
  11. I rang Juno trying to get AD on black. They went into their warehouse and said all their copiues were blue. This was several weeks back. Give them a ring. They're very friendly.
  12. Flat is the opposite of what it sounds and is. The harsh juxtapositions of quiet and loud aspects are far more pronounced the drums sound far louder than before with considerable weight and venom. The range is used particularly well, timing is far more pronounced too. The album is far more raw and visceral as a result.
  13. I picked this NM copy for peanuts in February from Canada (US pressing, not Canadian $2.49): http://screencast.com/t/2vms8z9Go Also, dozens of examples in a wordlwide completed listings for the record: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Faith-No-More-The-Real-Thing-1st-Press-Matrix-Nos-A1-B1-Exc-Cond-/321209026503?pt=UK_Records&hash=item4ac98cc7c7 http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/LP-FAITH-NO-MORE-The-Real-Thing-/390660036388?pt=B%C3%BCcher_Unterhaltung_Music_CDs&hash=item5af5271724 http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/FAITH-NO-MORE-The-Real-Thing-LP-1989-SLASH-REC-FIRST-PRESS-/221283376394?pt=B%C3%BCcher_Unterhaltung_Music_CDs&hash=item3385845d0a http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/FAITH-NO-MORE-INTRODUCE-YOURSELF-LP-THE-REAL-THING-DIGGING-THE-GRAVE-BLUE-/400572177893?pt=UK_Records&hash=item5d43f65de5 http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/FAITH-NO-MORE-THE-REAL-THING-used-LP-ships-worldwide-/151120167273?pt=Music_on_Vinyl&hash=item232f76c169 http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Faith-No-More-The-Real-Thing-Vinyl-LP-UK-1989-828154-1-/310738187274?pt=UK_Records&hash=item485970740a http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/faith-no-more-the-real-thing-/130978910814?pt=UK_Records&hash=item1e7ef3925e http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/FAITH-NO-MORE-THE-REAL-THING-12-VINYL-LP-/300949446653?pt=UK_Records&hash=item4611fc1ffd http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/FAITH-NO-MORE-The-Real-Thing-1989-Album-LP-/370875587770?pt=UK_Records&hash=item5659e85cba None are horrible, most are VG+ and above and anyone claiming a record of this age is mint is simply mis-grading.
  14. on ebay and a Because you can pick up an original US pressing for around $15.00 on ebay and it sounds great. Also you can get an original UK copy for less than that and it;s also very good (made by PRS in Holland). MOV made a big mistake in not adding War Pigs and Edge Of The World and sticking toi the original vinyl track-listing.
  15. Here's the full tracklisting: http://www.discogs.com/Nirvana-In-Utero/release/4927358
  16. The 3 LP set in Europe is cut and pressed by Pallas. Excellent people. It sounds amazing. I love Albini's original single mixes from the third record. This is a top drawer package.
  17. Their biography advises they had no control and that Billy being bullied by Morris was the reason that they wuite the band. Morris dictated everything. Gould and Puffy were nothing more than session musicians in that setup. When they started Faith No more after leaving Faith No Man they were finally happy as they enjoyed playing with each other. The negative creative and personal experience they had with Morris shaped Faith No more, no doubt, but the bands are not the same entity. They were very different animals. Morris convinced them that they should never use a full time singer, which is how they ended up without one for several years.
  18. I don;t consider the Faith No Man record as part of their discography. It was controlled by Mike Morris who was an authoritarian. The record and the band was his baby.
  19. Yeah. I don't think they'll get the rights for We Care A Lot. Warner tried doing a CD reissue of it in Japan as part of their "Forever Young" series last year. They appeared to have made them but never released them. All purged afaict. Canceled a week or two before release. I know Mordam own/ed the rights and London repressed by license in 1996 on vinyl and one CD (Liberation in Australia) but that was it. I'd love to see another good remaster of We Care A Lot.
  20. All the represses so far are on Warner Bros. Records and Music On Vinyl. Since these aren't officially distributed in the USA afaict, I find that a little strange. It sounds more like they failed to secure the coloured vinyl before they sold out. I can only guess. Introduce Yourself. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Introduce-Yourself-Black-Vinyl-Faith/dp/B00F67ROD8/ref=sr_1_1?s=music&ie=UTF8&qid=1379262453&sr=1-1&keywords=faith+no+more
  21. The worst thing about retailers not telling people what colour they are selling is that it's easy to tell without opening the seal. The black vinyl has a black label and the golden edition says golden edition on the label, the label is gold and it has a limited edition number on the bottom left of the rear sleeve.
  22. Yep. My golden edition has some slight surface noise but it doesn't spoil play. The black is perfect but was made from the exact same stampers as the gold - s there's be very little difference anyway. Both MOV pressings are better than the original MPO version from '97 imo. I've played all three today.
  23. I'd really love Kaada's Thank You For Giving Me Your Valuable Time to get a decent pressing. One of my favourite tracks of all time:
  24. Sound slike they;re using DMM. Not a disaster, but needs a good hand as they can sound very bright (MOV use DMM AFIAK). but the question remains. Will the plates made from the copper DMM be sent to both territories for pressing. I've seen it where Golden Mastering have sent their plates to GZ to press with great results, but most of the time they don't get plates and create their own and their mastering is quite frequently flat). I just hope Europe doesn't get shafted in this way. I hope they send the plates to SST. Anyway, just ordered mine in the UK from https://www.normanrecords.com - shipping is not as cheap as Amazon, but at least they have personality and pay UK tax.
