Recommend me a phono-preamp!
mcnail replied to byfallingbomb's topic in Vinyl Collective Message Board
Depending on how much you want to spend, I've heard good things about this one: http://www.needledoctor.com/Bellari-VP130-Tube-Phono-Preamp?sc=2&category=401 Also, I think there's a battery operated preamp that someone put out recently that you construct yourself that supposedly sounds really great. -
Bump for metallic blue version coming out tomorrow (Monday) at noon. Edition of 80.

Pictures or it didn't happen. -
Pay no attention to that, Etsy just only lets you put a few in stock at a time. They'll probably be around for awhile.
-
Yeah, could go either way. Dan is a great guy too. PS, OMGPosters is my site, feel free to visit for daily print/poster updates. Cheers!

Thought some of you would be into this, Dan Grzeca just released the cover art as a screenprinted art print. http://omgposters.com/2008/09/25/in-silence-art-print-by-dan-grzeca/

Receiver/stereo/speaker help
mcnail replied to benchwarmer's topic in Vinyl Collective Message Board
You're going to find about a million varying opinions around every message board as far as audio equipment goes, but here's mine. Definitely don't go with that bookshelf unit, that thing looks wack and you can do better for that price. The Sherwood receiver looks ok, Sherwood isn't too bad, and if it's all you can find in that price range, it probably would be acceptable. I would personally look for something vintage by Sansui, Pioneer, Marantz, Luxman, or Panasonic (probalby the best bet, especially for the price). If you can get something from the 70's that is at least 35 watts per channel for around that price, you'll get a warmer sound that is more suited for vinyl, plus they just look better than the new black stuff. Otherwise, early 90's stuff by those same companies all have phono inputs and sound pretty good. I don't really know much about those speakers, but they probably wouldn't be super great. I would look for some 80's-90's Pioneers, Sonys, or Cerwin Vegas for around $50. There are obviously much better speakers out there, but those brands should be within reach at that price range. All in all, you could probably build a pretty nice vintage, or at least semi-vintage, setup for $100 or less since you already have a turntable. Hope that helps. -

Any chance for anymore? I missed it again. -
I have a bunch of art feeds, pitchfork and some other music stuff, a bunch of craigslist and ebay search feeds, Woot and Shirt.woot.com, some news, etc. You all should subscribe to my blog, www.omgposters.com

Yeah, for sure. The thing I really like about them is you can buy them as you go, no need to start with 10 cubes or whatever. Plus the doors. Oh yeah, plus I don't have Ikea.
-
I actually just found a perfect storage solution at Target of all places. They just debuted this brand new line called ITSO, they have full displays in stores, takes up a whole aisle. Anyway, each cube is about 14" x 14" x 14", perfect for records, and they have optional doors. They come in single and double cubes and seem really sturdy. http://www.target.com/b/602-7621908-9005....&LNM=itso&LI D=

I have actually, might implement it soon. As far as a forum, the one at Expressobeans.com is pretty nice, plus they have a full price guide on most all prints.
