  1. I think Dream Pop is a big enough genre to stand on its own and think a lot of it may be that people are not as knowledgable. That said, whether it would get the views\discussion on this forum, yeah I am not sure. Still, cannot see how mods would want to shut it down given there is a PO thread for every random release from bands across multiple genres. That does not stop me from creating threads about any current music released in the last 30 years over on the Steve Hoffman forum.
  2. I hear you on micro-micro genres though I think Dream Pop is completely different then an era of shoegaze or any other genre with gaze in it. Also think a thread for just Dream Pop could easily stand on its own two feet. The fact that Sarah Records was mentioned once in this thread other then by myself and Cascine has not been is telling.
  3. If we want to start looking at individual songs then that is different all together. And yes, if it came down to it I would definitely say Machine Gun is more Dream Pop then a Shoegaze song. In fact I think there are a few examples where you could say specific songs from some Shoegaze labeled bands would meet the Dream Pop criteria. That said, Slowdive are a band whereby over 3 albums evolved quite a bit. as an example, I don't think I would describe Pygmalion as Shoegaze or Dreampop (more ambient then anything).
  4. Ha no problem. Anyway, I was not trying to start a VC-esque flame war which is all to common around here. My only point was the thread evolved into a catch-all and as such, it is difficult to have a meaningful discussion. Also, the discussion arguably has been more focused on not only the Shoegaze style bands but those who have arguably been influenced by them (which is where my Whirr coment came from). Dream Pop which is one of my favorite genres seemed to have taken a back seat is all and in my opinion, warrants its own thread.
  5. Who the hell is "thebrink"? It sounds like to is the name of one of those nu-Shoegaze bands that people are trying to lump in here.
  6. I can definitely do that but the underlying point is that this thread is too broad. Bands such as Chapterhouse, Ride, Slowdive are completely different animals then those such as Beach House, Yumi Zuma, Pure Bathing Culture and others. While I think most agree that Cocteau Twins are one of the primary influencers of both genres, in the mid-80s both genres began to evolve quite a bit. At that time you had a number of the Creation Records bands begin to define what will become Shoegaze while they are picking up ideas from a number of US indie bands of the time (Dinosaur Jr, Sonic Youth, etc). Dream Pop continued to evolve from the Cocteau Twins blueprint due to the likes of bands such as The Wake and those on the Sarah Records label (i.e The Field Mice). Skimming through this thread, you have people trying to state bands like The Album Leaf, Bon Iver, Antlers and many, many others belong in here. And do not even get me started on the so called nu-metal esque bands people are lumping in here like Whirr.
  7. Very weird how this thread combined Dream Pop and Shoegaze. Even for "micro genres" they are pretty different and so many great bands have yet to be mentioned.
  8. Pretty certain that is not Mac DeMarco. There is a whole site for animated gifs from Boiler Room sets/concerts.
  9. Self titled is a 10/10 record easily. One of the best albums of all time.
  10. Great thread and not much more to add really. I grew up in this era and have to say that as a Canadian who was more of a fan of the U.S. Bands that did not get enough air play on Much Music (ie Smashing Pumpkins never got a ton of air play until Disarm), this thread is a bit bitter sweet. There were some great releases and singles, most of which I have on CD. That said, a lot of these bands got heavy rotation due to the rules here in Canada. Big Sugar should never have gotten the plays that they did and I HATED Our Lady Peace and Matthew Good. That said, bands like Sloan, Treble Charger, Rustie, Hayden and The Doughboys should have been huge elsewhere. The biggest travesty is The Hip of course who are arguably the most Canadian band ever, though perhaps it is best that they remain ours.
  11. I agree with most of this except "Buyer expect the worse". Someone spending $150 on SeaChange should not expect the worse, instead, ask a lot of questions and give specific shipping instructions (and if possible before concluding a deal).
  12. You and the other hyper defensive sellers in this thread do realize that that you are posting on a forum called VINYL COLLECTIVE right! I mean this is not Rolling Stone or some other site where people generally bitch "it shoud be all about the music maaaaaaaan"!
  13. People selling (here, eBay or Discogs) need to go to the Steve Hoffman Classfied and see how people grade and describe/post pictures for their sales. Obviously, it will be difficult to find listings for say, Hot Water Music or a rare color variant for a post punk band. But I think a lot of people could learn something.
  14. Kind of surprised at people accusing the buyers in this situation. Overgrading happens too often on eBay and I have to avoid it (unless I am buying new and sealed). I find most people (even record nerds) have no idea how to grade or taking the time to distinguish sound vs. visual grading. I find discogs is much better for this sort of thing and I always ask detailed condition and photos sometimes if I am going to spend more then $40
  15. Willing to pay $20 plus shipping for a copy of the French Kicks - Trial of the Century on vinyl. Shoot me a PM if interested.
  16. Another Saturday bump. Can likely do a bit more then $100. Let me know!
  17. Jesus Christ. so stupid. Really hope one of my preorders get filled but at this point, not holding my breath. The delay in release for the non- MK/JL sales is not helping either.
  18. No way it sold out that quick. I had the same thing as the poster above. Tried to checkout both via Pypal confirm and without and it kept giving me the same error. And I was refreshing constantly from 5 mins before to now. Ugh.
  19. I have the Plain MBV numbered red vinyl. Shoot me a PM with a bid if you are interested. And like others have said, those are some great albums though you are missing Ride and Slowdive (unless you have them already).
  20. Saturday night bump. Does someone have this, even if they do not want to sell it?
