  1. On my debit carbon ortofon 2m red cartridge, i seem to have accumulated a persistent level of dust which i can't remove with a magic eraser per the method indicated, of dropping the tone arm, lifting and repeating. I have no other method at the moment and can't really afford the proper solutions to do so. Any one know of another diy method? i am getting a very noticeable fuzz in my sound and have stopped playing vinyl, concerned im ruining my other recordings.
  2. Thanks, i wasn't sure about the extent that heat would effect them, i don't know if you understand how hot it is here, and humid, so in spite if the sarcasm i appreciate the help.
  3. Thanks, i was beginning to suspect add much, when i got this table there was a huge jump, and the speakers made another leap, the middle chain i do suspect of being more nuanced, so i will most likely just shoot for a nice, for my budget, set of headphones. The wall is on my short list of future purchases, but I'm struggling to find a quality pressing, another joy of vinyl, making sure your pressing is going to be up to the level a vinyl could be, and not just a waste of time.
  4. I'm sorry if this is not the right place to ask, or if it's been discussed. But my ac went out yesterday, it may be several days until it's fixed. I live in Florida, is there anything other than bringing my vinyl to a friend's house that can be done to avoid the heat, and how much risk is there? I mean it's in the upset eighties, humidity is someone's 100% in the am. I'm right in being concerned, yes? Any suggestions other than just taking then somewhere else? The one saving have now is my collection is about twenty records so it's not a large one.
  5. Best of the preamps listed. I'm looking at fairly slow piecemeal additions to my setup so I'm to do it in a way that will let me hear improvement at each step even if they are subtle, it thrills me every time I can hear even a tiny bit of nuance I never noticed before ... And just to gush modest mouse lonesome crowded west is currently blowing me away. I've listened to that Album for nearly twenty year on cd with headphones and my setup has shown me so many delicate and fascinating details in that production I've never heard before. It literally brings tears of joy just thinking about it.
  6. Ok so with a technics sa120 receiver, it would be an improvement to add a preamp in the 150 dollar range and connect in the line out correct? Or would it only be negligible until I eliminate the technic entirely with a preamp and power amp. Therefore should I not even bother until I can get the preamp and power amp? Of the 150 range on the list in this topic which would you say is the best?
  7. Ok I figured the preamp thing out it's yes. I'm a little burned out I've been trying to absorb a lot of info on this and sometimes completely forget what I have read the day before. But any setup suggestions would be helpful. Is the bellari vp130 a decent beginner setup, with the intention of adding a power amp of somewhat similar quality later? I'm running my debut carbon with ortofon 2m red through an old eighties technics sa120, to some Dayton audio b652s. Not ideal but it's what I'm able to afford so far. I'm just trying to plan my future steps up, and I figure if I can get an improved headphone experience while I work on the speaker setup it will help me enjoy some of the vinyl quality I'm missing now.
  8. Ok More stupid n00b questions. I have read this entire thread and several others in search of clarity in a headphone setup. If I am using a headphone amp does it require preamp as well? Also whether yay or nay, what would one recommend for the headphone setup. I would like to try and go tube. Still entry level as far as pricing but tube is a sound I've always preferred in guitar amp sound and I am going to explore it for my new hifi adventures. Thanks and any tangent advice as far as a headphone setup would be appreciated.
  9. Hey so I've finally built a basic setup which I'm confident is not going to destroy my records and is giving me lots of nuance in my music I've never heard before, in a sense the magic of hearing the flaws, side by side with the delicate textures of my new and tiny collection, is kind of a thrill in that it gives me something to work on and with each step up I hear the quality rise and my music comes alive more and more. So here is the setup Pro-ject debut carbon (stock model) Ortofon 2m red Technics sa120 stereo receiver Dayton audio b 652 bookshelf speakers I know this leaves a lot to be desired but it's working for now. I plan on attempting to diy a preamp. I have no circuitry experience so any advice for how to begin would be neat as pie, I've done some research but I have no clue, and don't know if this is even feasible but I'm confident I can learn, and discover how to truly build an audiophile experience piece by piece. Any suggestions/advice would be appreciated. I know there is a long road ahead but budget is tight, and I also have to get my vinyl collection somene income as well. The journey is the goal.
  10. When I finally get a turntable that is worth playing my tiny collection does anyone know if a technics sa120 is worth keeping and using for the time being, I know there are better options and the speakers are obviously an issue, but is this a decent starter? It does have a phono input which is a plus to avoid the necessity of buying a preamp.
  11. So would you say that the crosley cr704 is damaging my records irreparably, with say 5 to 10 plays per record? And so in the meantime I should just listen to cds or digital files and retire my records until I have a decent table.
  12. I am trying to decide whether to purchase an atlp120 which I can buy now, to replace a crosley, which I dread even using at all. Or should I try and continue saving for a pro-ject debut carbon dc. I know the answer is kind of obvious but the time that I wait to save up for the project I would be left with the crosley and I'm afraid I am damaging my records with it.
