  1. I've placed quite a few orders with Aural Exploits. Some huge ones with over 10 LP's, some singles. They take a while to ship sometimes, but they arrive in good shape, barring any post office abuse. I once wrote an email to them to ask if any of their 200 gram copies of the who and jethro tull records would be back in stock, as they were out at the time, but I didn't know if it was only temporary. Their response was "If the website has a "Buy Now" button it means they are in stock (it shows out of stock if they are out of stock)". Thanks, captain obvious.
  2. I didn't see purple/orange splatter for the boris/torche split this morning. must have sold out yesterday. I got it on orange, and the isis/melvins on clear pink. I just like having one copy of a release, no need to get em all, its not pokemon.
  3. I've ordered a few records from Amazon, and amazingly they weren't damaged though they just stick them in an oversized box with a few air bags. I've had plenty of larger orders show up with damaged corners, but just as many show up unscathed. There's no record stores worth going to near me, so mailorder is my only option. And I'm not buying to flip, so as long as its not destroyed, I don't mind. I got a 10" the other day that had a cardboard filler taped down over it so it wouldn't slide around, it was in perfect shape when it arrived. Good idea if you ask me.
  4. Thanks for the heads up man! Just picked up my copy. I actually saw one go on ebay just the other day for $52. Sucks for that guy. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=250647826061&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT
  5. I agree, a record thin enough to bend with a magazine? I can't imagine these things sounding any better than complete crap. Its a novelty at best. I wouldn't waste a dime. Plus I've heard bad things about Pirate Press in general, farming out their pressing overseas, the wal-mart of pressing plants.
  6. Yeah, Relapse is cool like that. They ship your records immediately if they have them on hand, regardless of the release date. I got my copy of black tusk's taste the sin almost two weeks before the release date.
  7. I have the mastodon box set, but I'm glad to see they're making all those releases available individually. I wish the box had all the artwork included, not a reduced size cover image and that's it. Oh well, at least the music is there, on 180 gram vinyl.
  8. i think it would take some heat to get that bend out, I've seen some youtube vids about warming a record in the sun/oven to take out warping. Not recommended, but heck, you don't have much to lose there.
  9. Yeah, a guy I was friends with back in high school suggested the name. Little did I know it was a wrestling reference, and I didn't get it until a while later. I've just stuck with it.
  10. I'm pretty sure it was from elusive disc, but like I said, it was back when it was for preorder and the price wasn't yet ridiculous.
  11. Looks like you can still get it here: http://www.jazzloft.com/p-49229-hot-rats-200g.aspx never shopped there before, but at least they haven't inflated the price. Elusive disc has it... for $60, jerks. I think my wife got mine from there, but back when it was $32.
  12. I found them searching for poison the well and every time i die records. Those were my first purchases from the former VC store. Got quite a few after that.
  13. 200. Man does it sound good, and completely different than the cd that ryko reissued. Frank went crazy with some of the remastering in the 80's.
  14. What did you think about last year's Part... the Second? That would be a little easier to press, being 100% funded by fans, and only being released digitally so far. Though, its not my first choice of their albums, Bath and LYBM are just phenomenal.
  15. I'm not wild about the vocal style. I was anticipating something a little more aggressive. The music is good, but not my favorite. No biggie, can't like em all!
  16. I definitely understand that I need to have the band's and the label's approval prior to doing any of this. I did hesitate before posting this because all of this is in the conceptual stages, but I was just looking for input from people to see if there would be any interest in the releases I would like to press. Like I said, I was contacting the dudes from EotW (former members of postman syndrome) regarding the Terraforming pressing. I didn't want to send out a bunch of requests to different bands/labels simply because I can only afford to do one release at a time. That said, is there any more interest in the potential releases I listed in my first post?
  17. So I'm going to try my hand at starting my own independent record label. I've gotten some great input from a few established guys (Gilead, Vega), and I've got a few ideas for my first release. Not sure what would make the best first release though. I wanted to press something that hasn't been on vinyl before, either new or something older that was overlooked. Here's my thoughts so far: 1. The Postman Syndrome - Terraforming 2/3. maudlin of the Well - Bath & Leaving Your Body Map 4. Irepress - Samus Octology 5. East of the Wall - Farmer's Almanac I contacted the guys in East of the Wall about pressing Terraforming, but didn't get a response. Not sure if that one is going to go through. Haven't yet approached Toby Driver about the motW albums. Not sure how many fans are out there. I know if people heard them, they'd be hooked, they are/were amazing. Proggy Death Metal with hints of about 10 other styles across each album. For fans of Opeth, Isis, Porcupine Tree, Kayo Dot, Tiamat (the album Wildhoney was a huge influence on the motW sound initially). What are your thoughts?
  18. Can't wait to spin this one. Gotta love Thou and their endless barrage of vinyl releases. A completists dream/nightmare!
  19. So i guess its safe to say this wasn't available through any other distros? I wasn't that crazy about the $25 price tag so I passed, but I didn't think it would sell out so quick.
  20. I got a copy on green. My side B label is way off center, just shy of being in the song grooves. I bought this based on a recommendation from a friend, but I'm really not digging it. If anyone is interested, I'd like to sell or possibly trade. Let me know.
  21. I also remember blasting BTBAM's Colors so loud that the dude downstairs came pounding on my door. He was pounding for a couple minutes too, cause the tunes were too loud for me to hear him until a quiet part came around. At least now I live in my own house and don't have to deal with that anymore. Metal is required to play LOUD.
  22. Thanks for the kind words guys. I didn't realize I had my own thread. Yes, I've got legs, they're just in the other room, didn't want them cluttering up my picture. Yeah, that's the Mastodon box set. Its actually the first purchase I made in recent years, before owning my turntable, that really got this all started. I figured if I was paying that much to own all those records, I should at least be able to listen to them. Finally got a turntable in November, 08. I remember spinning "Remission" while decorating my xmas tree that year. Sweet.
