FUCK YES It's incredibly hard man. in late 2006, I started applying to a school in Minneapolis because it was the only option I had to move here and be with my girlfriend. I moved to the twin cities in late July 2007, and started school in late August 2007. I could only work on campus 10 hours a week (by law it's 20, but the school has a policy of 10 hours for international students). I was allowed to take up to 4 internship credits, paid or not, in my last year of school. In late May, I started interning for the summer for 2 credits working 40 hours a week in my field for $12.75 an hour. It's a good thing I chose to do only 2 credits because they decided to extend my internship for all of Fall semester and I was able to take the 2 additional allowed credits for that internship. In September, I started applying for OPT (optional practical training), which allows a student with an F-1 status to work a full year after school ends. I'm starting December 21st working full time for a year, with incredible salary, vacations, benefits. I'm still working on trying to fidn a way to stay here when the OPT ends. I will need sponsorship from the company so I will be working my ass off to make such an impact that they will want to work with me to keep me in the country. Otherwise, I'll have to go back to school for another A.A.S. degree and keep my F-1 status. It would suck because I wouldn't be able to work again but whatever I can do to stay here with Michelle. It's a real pain in the ass. Serious. Unless your friend is qualified in some type of profession that is needed in the US, such as doctors or nurses I think. Then its much easier
