  1. Does anybody know anything about the Advancement Theory? Chuck Klosterman published an essay on it that appeared in his book IV. Its basically this idea that a lot of bad records aren't really bad, they are fucking brilliant, and we just arent advanced enough to understand them. He basically says this occurs when an artist or band has a catalog that proves their musical genius releases an album that everyone pretty much perceives as garbage...until a sometime down the road everyone realizes that it was actually incredible, and we just arent advanced enough to understand it. the example he uses a lot is Lou Reed, and how we all know that guy is kind of a genius, and then he put out a record of nothing but feedback. That is actually probably an incredible album, we just arent at the level of genius required to understand it. This isnt to be confused with "overt," which is basically just "weird for the sake of weird." Its like if Radiohead released a droney semi-electronic indie record, that would be expected of them. If they released a hair metal record, that would be overt. But if Radiohead put out a record of smooth jazz or something, that would be advanced. I'm stealing all of this from his book, by the way. Anyway, I think New Wave may be one of the most advanced punk rock records of our time.
  2. I have a MacBook that doesnt have the Super Drive or whatever. I have a bunch of movies that I...paid for...on my external hard drive that I would like to be able to watch on my TV. Anyone have any recommendations for a totally affordable external DVD burner that will work with iDvd for a MacBook with OS X 10. Thanks
  3. i think so. I am often wrong in these type of situations, though. this is probably one of those situations.
  4. Anyone have a copy of Shake the Sheets by Ted Leo. I dont have to pay rent anymore, so I'm looking to pick up some records I've been wanting for a long time. I'll trade, pay, blah blah blah. Just get at me thanks so much.

  6. i use to think i was pertty tough about tattoos, but then, i spent six hours doing this (shitty picture): its not done yet....and the artist moved to Colorado, so I need to get my usual dude to finish it. after that session I seriously told myself i was never getting tattooed again. I didnt think the foot was too bad, but my foot tattoo only took 4 hours, so, im sure much longer of that and I would have been singing a different tune. i still need to post my gotham city tattoo. someday...
  7. I got my first tattoo when I was 19...it's the words "next to impossible" above my left elbow. Its from '97 about Alkaline Trio, which at the time was my favorite song. Couple years later someone told me that '97 is actually about Skiba being on probation and not being able to smoke weed. Being straight edge, this is pretty funny to me.
  8. mexi would be fine. Really, the cheaper the better (so long as it isnt a Squire). Its going to end up with a new pickup and pickguard and probably new neck, so im not really concerned much about its previous life. just a standard old P-Bass
  9. yeah, like when Batman flipped the Semi and the Joker was walking down the road just firing his machine gun at oncoming cars. I would say the Jokers body count in this would be pretty high....
  10. Does anyone have a White Fender P Bass they are looking to get rid of? I want to work on a new project bass and really want a solid white (Artic White is what Fender calls it) P Bass. Not a J bass or a Jazz bass, just a regular old standard P Bass. And has to be a Fender, not a Squire or any other knock offs. Maple neck is highly preferred. Can be used, so long as it isnt beaten all to hell and still plays well. Get at me if you have one and want to get rid of it. Ill gladly toss you some cash and maybe trade a record or two in there if you are interested. - Z
  11. dude, thats exactly how it is for me in ATL. The hoodie comes out at 70 or below.
  12. Going on tour in Europe in September. Never been to Europe, but since it's halfway around the world I can only assume that the weather is going to be vastly different than it is here in the states. We're going to the Netherlands, France, Italy, Austria, Germany and a couple other places. So, do I need to take like, a heavy jacket or anything? I was just planning on taking a hoodie or two, but I have made this mistake before (just because it is 75 degrees in Atlanta, that doesn't mean Virginia will be the same...) and loading/unloading gear while freezing cold while vastly underdressed is not something i want to deal with again. thaaaaaanks
  13. totally wasnt my intention but i wouldnt complain.
  14. So this happened a little while ago (July 6), but I swear that I thought I actually posted this when it happened. But, I'm an idiot sometimes. Anyway, so, i book a decent amount of shows in Atlanta. I was setting Rational Anthem from Sarasota, FL at 141 Moreland (a house that did killer shows around here), and the dude that lives there asked me if PS Eliot from Birmingham could jump on the show, since they asked him about kicking off their tour in ATL. I said without a doubt, and was really stoked on this show, because Rational Anthem are awesome people and I really like the Ackleys, which is the other band two of the girls from PS Eliot play in. Anyway, 141 got shut down by the cops, so we moved the show to this new Art Space called WonderRoot. So the show was going to be Rational Anthem, PS Eliot, and my band Die Benny. I show up at the venue around 8:00, the show is suppose to start around 9:30. The touring bands had gotten their earlier and were just hanging around, so I start getting everything set up with the dude who runs the space. Now, one thing about Atlanta is that no one shows up till late, which sometimes sucks when shows promptly start at 9:30, but there is always a decent turnout by the shows start and a great turnout by the nights end, but eitherway, NO ONE is going to be hanging out at the venue an hour and a half before the show starts. But anyway, I'm sitting around getting shit figured out with people and one of the girls from PS Eliot comes up to us and says their bass player has legal troubles and that they had to go back to Birmingham and sort everything out so they can go on the rest of their tour the text day. They were very apologetic, but, as soon as they told us that story, they quickly left. This struck us all as very odd, because, it was 8:00 at night, and they said they had to get to Charlotte from Birmingham the next day, so no one was really sure what legal troubles they were going to have figured out in less than a day. But then, my buddy Shawn shows up. I tell him about PS Eliot's weird story, and he tells me that they simply just thought the show was going to suck, and that they left, and that they were staying at the same place he was staying tonight, and were currently hanging out with his friends. This is a credible story, because he use to live in Birmingham and knows those girls. So, basically, they bailed on a show because they were there early and there wasnt a good turnout yet. The show ended up going really well with a great turnout, and I was really pumped that Rational Anthem got both bands cut of the door, but it was still a bummer that PS Eliot bailed because they thought the show was going to suck. Shawn was going to called them and tell them to come back, because the show turned out awesome, but I told him not to, and that I didnt want them back. So, thats my story. I've had to deal with some shitty people, but this really bummed me out. So, if you do shows, you might want to think twice about working with PS Eliot. Or just make sure 150 people show up beforehand so they'll stick around. If you do shows, maybe post some shitty bands that other people will know not to work with? Sorry if there is already a thread like that around here.
  15. nolan said somewheres that he would never do the Penguin because he doesnt know how to make him seem plausible. I dont know where the actual interview is, but that little tidbit is listed under the "trivia" shit on the Dark Knights IMDB page. I was talking with some dudes and I think Catwomen could be done, but, I dont know. Everytime you bring Catwomen into the picture, there is always the Bruce Wayne/Selena Kyle/Batman/Catwomen love thing going on, and that would bum me out in these new films.
  16. i saw 2 more I read in Entertainment Weekly that Bale is contracted for three (So, Begins, TDK and one more). Nolan was only contracted for two, but I can't imagine he would turn this franchise over to someone else and let it get fucked up
  17. yeah, i just felt that with the dude that was going to out Batman and blackmail Wayne could be set up for a pretty neat Riddler. But yeah, that guy wasn't exactly that awesome, though
  18. does anybody else think they were maybe setting up for the Riddler for the next one with the Colemen Reese guy (the guy who was going to out Batman)? Thats just something me and some of my friends were thinking...I dunno though
  19. ha, i dont fucking know. i dont frequent this shit that much so I thought I was ahead of the curve. Whatever
  20. A friend of a friend runs a movie theater out in the suburbs and is doing a private screening of it at midnight TONIGHT for close friends TONIGHT (Wednesday, not thursday) and i dont have to wait till midnight tomorrow. Fuck all y'all.
  21. yeah, i drove 35 minutes to the IMAX at the Mall of GA, to see I Am Legend, just to see this. My asshat friend ran late and we fucking missed it. So i made him sit in the food court and i watied 2 hours and paid 8 more dollars to see this shit, and then walked out. I may have a problem
