  1. Punch Drunk Love is one of my favorite movies, but that poster does nothing to capture the feeling of the movie. It would have been cooler if they just showed the piano and a package of pudding on top of it. I think these Mondo releases are just beginning to bore me, which is good because I have no more wallspace.

  2. Hi everyone, I'm new to vinyl and this forum. I have a turntable/Radio given to me as a gift, but the stylus needs replacing and I have no idea where to find the same type! Any pointers would be a massive help, im going to get one from ebay.

I don't know if this is some sort of troll post, but if you know you can get one from ebay, why not search there? You might also try needle doctor and send them the picture. I've never seen a needle like that.

  3. Stayed home today from work in anticipation of my Carbon. Got it set up pretty quickly and then it wouldn't start. WTF! Then I watched a youtube video to find out the power switch is underneath the left side. It didn't mention this is the directions and I didn't see it.

I first listened to the new Nick Cave on my old Numark TT-2, then on my Carbon. They sounded pretty close, that album is pretty clean and crisp. Then I put on TGA "Handwritten" and I was blown away! I could hear nuances in the vocals that couldn't be heard before, the highs were more crisp, and the bass had a fuller sound. I still feel like my TT-2 is pretty decent, but this Carbon is a giant step up.

Thanks to everyone who has posted tips/advice, I am pretty damn happy right about now.

  4. What the hell? Incredible that a 3rd grader wrote these. First off I laughed at "laying down being a jerk" because it's cute, and really good. But these last few lines had me sitting, staring, and thinking. So deep for such a young age. Do you teach at a public school? Also, I remember being a Freshman and doing one of those "what I want to accomplish" papers, and then it being given back to me upon graduation. When do these kids switch schools, 6th grade? You should keep hold onto them for a few years and give them back once they move on.

Yeah, this kid was a bit spacey and academically low, so when I read his poems, they floored me.  I wish I could steal, "Water from God biting water forever." I don't know what it means, but it sounds cool. Kids are a lot deeper than most people think. Just have to give them the space and encouragement to let it out.

Yes, a public school in a high poverty area in Northern California. I get them for 3rd and our school gets to keep them for the 6th, then it's off to middle school aka hell.

  5. Now that state testing if over, we are finally back on the poetry track. The kids are busy writing right now and I am excited to see what comes out this year.

Here are some more that my students have written over the last 12 years.  Once again, these were all written by 3rd graders and it is all their writing, not mine.

         The Season of the Waterfall

    The waterfall is an ocean

As a season on the Earth

You say you make a sky in

    The ocean

You are foolish to me not to you

    The problem is

Now you do not know how

    To swim in the waterfall.

    My Hands

    My hands are

    Brown

    The palm is white

    But don’t call

    Me black because my

    Skin color is

    Brown.

If you call me black I

    Will hit you in

    your mouth with

    My brown right hand.

         -Parish

    When We Die

    I am one

    I am two

    I am three

    And living all

    My years until

    God calls me

    To heaven.

    Where we

    Are going

    Is going

    To be

    A better

    Place no

    More crying

    Stealing and

    No more

    Shooting.

    And ‘til

                                                                                           God calls

    Me up

    I will

    Be still

                                                                                              On this

    Wicked earth.

    My Uncle Died

I had an uncle who died. He

    gave food to poor people.

He helped my mom walk when

she couldn’t. I felt sad because

    I didn’t get a chance to

see him. He was in Mexico.

    He wouldn’t stop drinking.

I feel like a baby cat crying for

her mom. That’s how I feel. My

family has been really sad, too.

    My Grandma was

                crying

                for days

    but                  she is

                used to it now.

    -Tanya

This next poem never fails to bring on the waterworks.

    Memorial

My grandma is dead. I cry and cry

And I pray so slow as I walk in the

Door. So slow, so fast, so me and you

My dad cries so loud like a tornado spinning

Around. My mom screams for my

    Grandma, “ Porque te

    fuiste?”

So slow and so fast as they walk home.

They buried my grandma so slow, so

So slow, now she’s in the sky with god,

Protecting me and you I loved my grandma so

Fast and so slow. I loved her as much as you.

  6. When I was listening to this new song, I was imagining that if this was not Black Flag how would I feel about it. I still would think it sucks and the fact that it is supposed to be "Black Flag" makes it 1,000 times worse.

Even though the Pistols reunited, they were at least smart enough not to record any new material.

  7. I don't know if these are necessarily my all time fav albums, but they provide a decent selection of styles for my different moods on this deserted island.

Amy Winehouse – Back to Black

Converge- All We Love We Leave Behind

Nick Cave-  No More Shall We Part

    Charlie Parker- Now’s The Time

The Clash- Give ‘Em Enough Rope

Makaha Sons of Ni’ihau- No Kristo

    American Nightmare- We’re Down

    Tom Waits- Small Change

P.S. Send a plane, I am stuck on a deserted island!

  8. I was at the same show.  I believe I share your exact sentiments -- that encore was something else, too.

I am positive there was talk of a red tour variant, out of 500.  I had full intentions of "upgrading" my standard black copy, and my accompanying friend was super-awesome in buying a Meir for me on our way out.  I just got around to opening it this morning, and... yup.  Definitely black vinyl.  Identical to the copy I pre-ordered.  If anyone would like a mint, unplayed [shrink slit] copy of Meir, I'd be incredibly grateful to sell it at cost.  I'd be willing to eat a buck or two and sell it for $27 PPD.  Plus some sweet VC feedback.  Anyone?  Anyone?

That's funny that you were there. Where were you? If facing the stage, I was left side, wearing my Converge hoodie. I was one of the people the guitarist tried to get on stage, but it wasn't feeling like a stage dive night for me. Glad I didn't flake on going.

  9. So is anyone with any real technical experience going to answer the questions in this section of the board? So far it seems pretty pointless. I have read two threads about embedding youtube videos and adding pics, but no real definitive answers, just a bunch of more confused people.

This forum should be called, "I'm confused and so are you, let's not help each other. It's all confusing".

  10. I went and saw Kvelertak with Cancer Bats and Black Tusk last night. If you haven't seen Kvelertak live, it's something you need to do.

A f*ckin' big rock 'n roll party. Everyone was having crazy fun, fists and horns in the air, singing lyrics they didn't even understand. The band sounded amazing and looked like they were having a good time.

They had a bunch of shirts $15, a hat, promo poster $1, and the two records $25, which seemed to be the black versions. Wish they had some sort of tour press.

  11. Looks like Treasure Fest next weekend in Charlotte is going to be their last show.  It's a bummer. This band is so good.

    PLEASE PICK THIS RECORD UP.

Both labels are really rad and this record is too good to let it disappear.

That is really lame. I wonder what the story is?  Hopefully it's just a hiatus or they will make up and move forward. This band needs to keep releasing music.

  12. Yeah, but they are still building out their stock and the available color options create a dilemma when ordering. If you e-mail them and ask to give you whatever color is available it will significantly speed up the process.

Also, for anyone looking B&H has the Acri-Plat in stock again. These platters have been  pretty difficult to find as of late. I just got mine for about $106 shipped and it should be here tomorrow. Here is a link for those who are interested:

    http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/853829-REG/Music_Hall_ACRI_PLAT_ACRI_PLAT_ACYLIC_PLATTER_for.html

Now if someone could point me in the direction of an affordable option for a speedbox I'd appreciate it. Last turntable related purchase for a while (at least until my needle dulls). I will report back on the changes I notice using the platter. I'm hoping this will eliminate the need to purchase a zerostat gun.

Is the Acri-Plat and Acryl-It the same product? I found specs for the former, but none for the latter. If they are the same exact thing, then it would have been cheaper to go with the Plat rather than the It. I guess I should have done more research before I bought the It.
