  1. I got my fiver grab bag today. The only band I even heard of is Coelesce.  Here is the haul:

    Coalesce- OX Ep grey

Murder Contstruct- S/T marlbed black white grey

Noisear- Subvert The Dominant trans blue

    Weapons- Embers And Revelations maroon?

Primate- Draw Back A Stump black

I'm listening to Coalesce right now and pretty happy I got this deal. Probably should have done the ten.

  2. Not having much luck with this record. My Black Numbers package got delivered back to them and today I got a beautiful pink piece of warped plastic from Coffeebreath. I don't understand taking the time to do a sweet screen printed, die-cut cover and then throwing it in a really flimsy cardboard mailer with one piece of bubblewrap to ship overseas? Contrary to what some people believe, bubble wrap doesn't really do shit to protect a record. The cardboard inserts are what give it a fighting chance. I would have paid extra for a couple of inserts. Yay.

  3. Thanks for the heads up, got a classics of love test!

This is such a great album. I was listening to "Let The Dominos Fall" by Rancid and then switched it over to Classics and what a difference. Jesse still has all that gritty energy and Rancid sounds like a bunch of old men playing songs on their porch, which is okay, just different.

  4. I recently got that music hall cork mat for my Carbon.  Huge difference in sound quality, all the static hiss caused by the included felt mat was gone.  I think the $50 cork mat does everything the $120 acri platter does, so I would just recommend the cork mat instead, everything sounds better now.

I bought the acri plat for performance and for looks. On my piano black plinth it just pops and makes the table look sweet. I used a cork mat on my last turntable and didn't notice any difference in static or sound, plus it looked like a giant wine cork was on my table. It's definitely the cheaper way to go though if you're hearing a noticeable improvement.

  5. I remember when both of these were in print. They were just sitting there (all variants) for over a year before just randomly disappearing. Probably my favorite artist.

I was surprised that they sat around for so long. Great album. I got the Best Friends lp too and I remember it took a long time to finally get it shipped to me.

  6. How is this not sold out yet? Don't miss the boat people!

I'd guess the only reason is because so many variants were released at the same time. I bought 4 different copies and don't have any in hand yet, it makes it difficult to justify buying another copy of a record I'm waiting for. Just looking forward to spinning what's already ordered.

  7. I'm thinking about buying an old Marantz (maybe a 2230, 2245 or 2238b... still early in my search... but it'll be something along those lines) and I need some help becuase I'm a complete novice when it comes to audio equipment/set-ups.

I currently have a Rega RP1, Klipsch B-20 bookshelf speakers and a JVC Z-GX3 (receiver? amp? I don't know what the heck it is... that's how little I know about this stuff... I just know I plugged my tt and the speakers into it, and it worked). Since I want to get a Marantz to replace the JVC... I can't figure out how to tell if it'll be ok with my speakers.

What should I be looking for when I look at the specs of my speakers and the the receiver I want to buy to ensure they'll be ok? Also do I need anything additional with the Marantz? I would think I wouldn't need a preamp since all of the ones I'm looking at have a phono input... but I don't know if there's something else I'm missing. Any help would be really appreciated.

I have a Marantz 2245 and really enjoy the warm sound. I have it with a Pro-ject Carbon and some Sony bookshelf speakers that are inexpensive, but well reviewed. Those will be my next upgrade though.

Like Slinch said, make sure you buy it from a reputable person unless you're getting it for really cheap. It's worth it to pay a little more if you know it's already been newly serviced. I learned that the hard way.

  8. This guy must have been reading my mind. Everything he is saying is perfect. I'm also wondering about the life of the variant thing, even though I like to buy them. Variants pulled up and then dragged down the comic book industry in the 90's. I'm just really starting to look at how ridiculous it is to buy multiple copies of the same record(not a judgement on anyone who does this btw).
