Welp, I've hit my limit. Love this band but I cannot justify paying $45 for a record and a t-shirt. Maybe I'll catch them on tour I guess.
-
I don't always love Pitchfork, but this review is perfect:
I've listened to this album... maybe twice? since I first got into Thursday in the Full Collapse era and I've always thought, "Well, I'm that asshole who thinks Bleach isn't anywhere near as good as Nevermind with this band." Glad to see I'm not alone... this album is no Bleach.
-
Just skim through them all. Each album, except for maybe the self titled demo/b-side compilation, has 3-4 songs that could be considered "essential KOLS".
Totally agree. But those 3-4 songs are worth it. "Passionate" and "This Lemonade Is Terrible" are two of my favorite songs of all time.

Shocked at the price of that Aloha test. Had no idea they still had a following.

Wow, did not see the original post back in July or whenever. Stoked to maybe finally be able to have Orange Rhyming Dictionary.
Don't get too stoked. They've only slightly teased Nothing Feels Good as of now. But it's a good sign for all the classics!
-
I did not bump this. Read the posts before
He is correct. I am spreading the cryptic gospel of a vaguely potential reissue of Nothing Feels Good!

Gave it my first listen last night. "Pistol" is, by all accounts and measures, fucking intolerable. Almost as intolerable as a Ween song. (I went for the easy joke- I don't actually dislike Ween that much).
I'm really digging most the rest of the record though. Some tracks I actually thought, "This is some of the best Modest Mouse I've ever heard." And I never said that about anything on the last album. We'll see how often it makes the rotation though... guessing about as much as the last one which is pretty much never. Or it could be my summer record the way Good News was 10 years ago even though a bunch of douchebags ruined it by liking it or whatever.
-
Saw this at a local joint the other day and thought about getting it, but wanted an opinion on it first. I have End Measured Mile and love it, never heard Everything You Ever Loved or whatever. The shop also had that in as well. Should I snag em both, or a particular one?
A lot of fans thought Everything You Ever Loved was overproduced or too mainstream or too slick or polished or whatever. I agreed at first but eventually came to love it- listened to it this morning instead of the new one, actually. If you find yourself sensitive to that sort of thing (as in, you think Caution was too slick like many people did), I'd say the new album would be more to your liking.
-
You are. Their first LP is on the eighth pressing and their second LP needs to be pressed again which will be the ninth pressing.
Shows what I know. Haven't seen these guys yet as I just got into them before the last record so it's hard to judge.
-
Haven't heard many recent thoughts on this record. I just gave this my third or fourth listen and...
I really like the songs, but dude's voice sounds wrecked to me. Some songs I find myself thinking, "Was that really the best vocal take they got in the can?" I realize they're going for a more "raw" and "stripped down" sound because people hated on the last record (I liked it almost as much as EMM, for the record) but sometimes the vocals sound just... off. Any other thoughts on this record now that it's had time to sit?

will pick up the RSD 7" if the price is fair. According to this list there will be 700 copies on clear/white/blue swirl vinyl for RSD. I'm assuming that after that there will be a regular pressing most probably with a lower price tag. But let's see :-)
That list says 1000- which means it won't be crazy hard to find even after RSD. Unless I'm grossly underestimating the popularity of this band.
-
Did anyone see that these guys are releasing a two song EP on record store day? They're songs from the Keep You sessions.
Yes, which means I need to go out on RSD I guess. Though they seem like the kind of band who wouldn't make something purely exclusive... don't want to risk it though as I'm dying to hear more from this band right now. Such a great record that I bought a navy thanks to Novacn!

I'm fine with a t-shirt and stickers (remember when these came free with your order?!) and whatnot but Jebus help me if I ever think a cassette tape is a reasonable thing to spend money on. I didn't even like them when they were the most convenient format. No sense in complaining about bundles though as they're here to stay... just wish I knew if that 7" was worth the hassle of having to buy a coffee mug and all the other less functional nonsense.
-
Anyone know what's on that 7" other than the title track?
-
I came late to TEN and loved the last record, despite glaring problems with the mix and truly awful lyrics.
I'm curious to hear this new record because I tried really hard to get into the earlier albums after loving In Currents and none of it stuck at all for me. I know I'm in the minority there and have accepted it as a failing of my taste rather than the quality of those records. I'm like those people who think Good Mourning and Bleed American are better records than those that came before them so what I'm saying is I'm the worst.

Thanks for your review. You know I read a "bad review" from a member here, so every time I had it in my hand, I passed on it.
I heard the MOFI CD sounds incredible for this title, and even contains an "earlier" mix of Head Over Heels that is a tad longer that the final version. Guess that proves they used the "real" master tape for that one.
Would love to find that for less than $50-$75
I'll second the positive review of Songs from the Big Chair. Granted, my bargain bin OG had tons of surface noise and tiny scratches so any new copy would beat it I'm sure.
The recent Dylan MoFi presses I have sound excellent but, yes, very quiet. I assume by design and there's no surface noise to speak of.
Can't believe I passed on Sea Change a million times when it was new because I had an original... sells for a ton now so I guess it's well-respected.

Shoot me a pm on release day on my real account(it'll be unbanned by then: garbage golem) and I'll give you my downloads of the demos if you don't order them.
If you wanna toss a couple bucks my way, cool. If not, whatevs.
How about you send those couple of bucks to orders (at) saddle-creek.com via PayPal instead? Or just mail the cash directly to:

Two people downvoted this but it got a chuckle out of me!
I'm one of the lucky ones as well- no real issue with either of my two giant orders. Sounds like the gravy train may be leaving the station though. Bummer if so- I've saved no less than $75 on records I was going to buy anyway.
-
So unbelievably stoked for these, especially the unheard stuff.
A bit bummed that "Tell Shipwreck I'm Sorry" and "Aftercrash" didn't end up on one of the demo records but I'll hold out for that 2025 Tim Kasher rarities release on injectable jellycube.

Just learning about this new record- definitely interested in hearing more!
Also very interested to learn that Warren Franklin is from my hometown and I've never heard of them. Guess I'm out of touch!

Ha! Holy shit, this came up in a search for the Knapsack thread and I thought it was new! What a dick I am.

This is some top notch trolling of their fans in the name of "art stuff." Only ICP has done it better (though in the name of being idiots). Bravo, band everyone seems to like a lot I guess!
