Sorry, man- pretty sure that's a bootleg. To my knowledge, if it says it's a UK press and doesn't have a printed inner, it's fake. Think it's from the 2006 batch where someone just pressed a ton of random colors.

I thought that was one of those "found" copies situations.

 

I think the essence of the quotes around the word "found" in those situations is that the label actually did a small run of new copies with old plates to meet demand/pay some bills. Communion, or what's left of it (Midheaven/Revolver), could very well have found a few hundred copies but it seems more likely that when Revolver got into direct-to-consumer sales, they just pressed a round of them. I remember there was another time that this record popped up on store shelves (early 2000s?) so I figure they pressed the minimum run a few times.

 

Total conjecture on my part as I don't think anything's ever been confirmed but hopefully that point is moot now since we'll all have access to new copies soon!

Don't think there's a difference between early pressings and the random copies that were pressed over the years. I don't think they made new plates or anything but maybe I'm wrong. I bought my copy new in 2005 maybe- Reckless here in Chicago had plenty in stock so I assumed it was just a new pressing but they were all gone the next week and never showed up again.

Remember a few years back when tons of new copies of this showed up at record stores? Pretty sure whoever's left of Communion just repressed a bunch to fill out leftover sleeves or something but it made me worry that Adam would never be able to remaster/repress this because they were withholding the masters or something.

 

Assuming this is done from the original analog masters, this should sound absolutely excellent. Stoked.

Giving this my first listen after considering ignoring it and holy shit it sounds like a Braid record, unlike that last EP, which sounded like a different band that I didn't like.

 

Is it just me or do Chris's vocals sound like they've got a weird phaser or doubling effect on them? Or maybe they're just sitting on top of the mix? It's really catching my ear for some reason.

I've got an OG press of S/T that I listened to a ton in high school so this is a welcome upgrade. Curious if it'll be getting any sort of remaster (or if Weston has his hands on it for Dischord).

 

Either way I'll be preordering both. I don't care much for live tracks, but "68," "Apollo Amateur" and the cover of "Sound On Sound" make the Scrapbook release a must-have.

 

If you guys could convince J to record acoustic versions of Jawbox/Burning Airlines songs, I'd buy those too. The show I saw in Chicago was incredible.

Bummer these are out of range to ship here. Count me in on a group buy if they come in at about $25 or less.

As for a US press, I remember Thee Site Founder Who Shall Not Be Named saying that Alias asked for for more money than any label (even majors) for vinyl rights. Made some release impossible (might've been these very records, but this was over 5 years ago I think). Hope someone figures it out stateside... These are on lots of people's lists!

It's a thread about two different bands. Totally different situation. I can say one band is awful, one is awesome. Not that hard to understand. What's hard to understand is why people make such a big deal out of it. 

 

To be clear, I understand why people have the opinion and that the contrast of the two bands is stark. I just don't understand why people can't support the band they like without shitting all over the other one. If this was the GUK/Coalesce split, my comment would've been "Love that Get Up Kids take on the Coalesce song! Never could get into the vocals of Coalesce but to each their own." No need to make some broad statement extending to the fans or even to express bewilderment at the fact that anyone could possibly enjoy the band. In the years when I thought Circa Survive was the lamest band with the spazziest singer, I made 0 disparaging comments about them on this board (that talks about them constantly) because what's the point? Seems petty to me. But to each their own. (See what I did there?)

I hated Circa Survive for probably 4 years before peer pressure forced me to give a long hard listen to some stuff. It grew on me very quickly and I'm currently in a period of not being able to stop listening to them. Might be a timing situation, might be my tastes have changed. Totally understand why they're not peoples' cup of tea (my first reaction was that the singer sounded even more nuts-in-vice than Coheed and was, thusly, a bridge too far).

 

What I don't understand is why people feel the need to pop on a thread and be all "This band fucking blows!" Is there some award for not liking bands that other people like?

 

I do agree that this song is not at all a representation of their best work. Seems a strange decision to make... maybe they wanted the Sunny Day song to slay all the harder in comparison? Maybe I should go around replying to everyone who digs the song to let them know that I think it sucks.

You know they offer tracking with first class to a ton of countries now, and with the ebay international shipping program it's not your problem after it gets to ebay.

 

Thought you were mistaken, but lo and behold they made some changes last July that added Delivery Confirmation to Australia, Belgium, Brazil, Croatia, Denmark, France, Germany, Great Britain, Israel, Netherlands, New Zealand, Spain and Switzerland. Thanks for the heads up on this- excellent news that I totally missed.

I've been off the boards for a while... are we still bitching about "flippers" or is everyone doing a meta/nostalgia thing where we post as if it's 2008 again? Both sound equally insufferable.

Yeah. I'm fixing to unload a bunch of records and eBay's anti seller tactics scare me. I'm thinking of only using USPS priority mail so I'll gave delivery/signature confirmation to cover my ass against buyer's remorse/scammers.

 

Delivery Confirmation is included with all levels of shipping through eBay- no need to do Priority for that. Priority gives you $50 insurance coverage but I have never once won a case trying to get my money back from the USPS ("Should've packed it better" is the go-to response if something is broken en route). Delivery Confirmation is hit or miss (sometimes it never updates) but eBay claims it'll save you if someone make a claim. Haven't had a problem shipping domestically (other than buyer's remorse, for which eBay requires no questions asked returns including forking over your shipping costs and the fees they already charged you).

 

International is a whole different ballgame. Tracking is too expensive to purchase on anything other than huge purchases so I've had people claim they didn't receive their $20-30 records on the regular. No way to refute it without tracking (even the tracking that comes with customs forms and tracks it to the border crossing). An excellent scam if you want to run one to get some free records.

People have been complaining about eBay fees since the dawn of time (also know as the AuctionWeb Era).

 

I had an eBay Store to sell records for about a year. It was going pretty well until they upped the fees for BINs, forced return policies and stopped protecting sellers in any way. I had to stop selling internationally because no one would pay for Registered Mail (the only way to get a tracking number overseas) and then just claim they never received it. eBay automatically debited my account without even asking for proof of delivery (which I didn't have anyway because I didn't want to pay $12 out of pocket to Register a $20 record sale). Once I stopped selling internationally, my sales dropped so low I had to bail.

 

The rub is that eBay offers access to a huge base of buyers. No other site will be able to build what eBay built audience-wise in a reasonable amount of time. Their business plan is simple: make buying on eBay just like buying on Amazon and sellers will have to use us. It's genius. And a bad deal for the normal people sellers that build their business in the '90s and '00s. I'm all for a new option, but it'll never happen I'm afraid. Viva la boards!

J Robbins could record 40 minutes of himself clearing his throat and tuning his guitar and I'd buy every pressing of it.

 

I do hope Dischord gets the rights to the S/T record because I bought mine in 1998 and have thoroughly worn it out. I'm pretty sure the band bought the rights back along with FYOSS so no reason it couldn't happen, I guess.

3 of the 4 new tracks I've heard from this are my favorite in years. Really stoked they seem to have found their form again.

 

Trying to find more info on the Deluxe version. They said on Facebook it includes the Evil Vices EP (which I already have) and can't tell if it's a unique color or there's something else that makes it special. It's only $10 more at Reckless here in Chicago (and out now!) so I guess I could just sell my tour press of the EP if it came down to it.

Seems the board is of two minds on this record. I had hoped it was just some haters poisoning the well. Pains me to say it, but it appears to me as if this band has contracted Cursiveitis. Where a band fully capable of rocking the fuck out decides instead to kinda just toe-tap its way through a record. Not feeling half the passion as the last two records in this one. Maybe it's just me but it's not like I was 17 when I first heard these dudes like I was when I first heard Cursive and now everything seems duller. Currently very disappointed but I've yet to sit down with the lyric book so I'm reserving my final "Will I ever reach for this instead of the other two LD records I love" opinion until I get a chance to do that.

J Robbins is my favorite musician. Will buy as always- so glad Frederic & co. are also fans! Can't wait for Dischord to rerelease the S/T Jawbox record as well- my original is well-worn!

I've been getting the tracking # for free from my USPS receipts and it updates and everything! Haven't paid for tracking in months since I figured that out. International too, just shipped to Germany and the tracking from the receipt has worked and was updated frequently.

 

International First Class packages shipped online will track until they exit US Customs. After that, tracking stops. Unless something has changed, this is why I don't ship internationally anymore. Unless you want to charge (and a buyer will pay) $35 for shipping w/ Certified Mail tracking, any international buyer can submit an eBay or PayPal claim stating they didn't receive it and get their money back. eBay even automatically deducts it from your eBay account without prior authorization.

 

Just a warning from personal experience- maybe I'm wrong and they've got a deal with EU customs to submit tracking info now though which would be amazing.

I'll throw my hat into the Float ring. I have originals of all but that one. Labor Days holds a very special place for me. My copy is like new but if I hear the quality is better on the new one, I'll upgrade without hesitation.

They should be pimping this along with the Steve Albini hype going along with the In Utero reissue. Not many people talk about this band anymore outside of Chicago I feel like.

 

Incidentally, I worked for Tom (the bassist)'s brother in high school and Tom got me in as an intern at Electrical Audio my sophomore year. Great experience and a solid dude. For my part, I absolutely loved the music these guys put out... but as soon as this dude starts singing I want to turn it off. Very much torn about whether or not to purchase...

I am very late on this, but this record is on non-stop rotation for me (much to my girlfriend's chagrin).

 

However, my DL code was for the first album. Anyone else have this problem? Contacted Bar-None so we'll see if they can get me the proper one but just wanted to see if I was an outlier.

Paid a bunch of money to get this and the re-release CD shipped to me in the US. Criminally underrated band with loads of sentimental value to me.

While this is near the top, I should mention that this record looks/is amazing. Probably my favorite Aloha record.

Sorry to resurrect the dead here, but just wanted to throw my hat into the "surface noise" ring here after just getting this along with the Manson record. Loud parts sound just fine but the quiet parts sound like someone's scraped sandpaper over the grooves. Might not have noticed it if not for "...Falling Bomb" and the title track. Compared with my (not mint) original press and, in comparison, at least those two songs are not at all comparable. Bummer.

 

Point is, if anyone's been waiting to get this, skip it. Unless there are dud copies floating around, the original press sounds better. I'd love to hear a rip of the title track from someone who says their copy sounds great... hard to believe since mine is so damn noisy.

This list is awesome. Thanks so much for compiling it! I had no idea the blueprint cover of the Lullaby single was /100. Wishing I hadn't sold it in my purge now.

 

And let Scott press that Criteria record. Then let him press Black Out.

 

Then let ANYONE press the first 2 Cursive albums. (But preferably Scott).

Got the blue Mission: Control! and red Identikit even though they weren't the most limited. The collector nerd in me fought it, but those are the colors I always imagined these on so it's time for the collector nerd in me (who, at one point, would've ordered all 3 of each) to die.
