  1. Let me give some background, I'm 26 and just saw them at Summer Slaughter fest. I am not a huge Norma Jean fan myself but have enjoyed Meridional and Wrongdoers a decent amount. The crowd was totally into them and going pretty ham. It was actually the first show I have been to in a loooong time where a majority of the crowd gave a shit. My issue with the show was that the mix of songs they chose created a set list that was 90% breakdown mosh groove stuff with a ridiculous amount of bass booms. Not my scene. They played two new songs and that was all I enjoyed. I want to see a band rip, not a bouncing their heads in unison while 15 year olds do shitty karate moves around me. But hey, who's listening to the lonely kid in the crowd.

Ah dude. Forgot you were in the area. A friend's band won an opening slot for that in a battle of the bands. Did you see anyone early on? Heard what you said about the crowd--that even if you didn't like the music, the crowd kept you in it cuz they were so pumped.

  2. I admit Collapsible Lung is by no means their best album but by no means is it any worse than 50% of the pop punk crap that is out these days. Personally Forget and Not Slow Down is my favorite and I know that would not be popular opinion.

    yeah it would be.

    see? :)

FANSD is hands down their best, like there really isn't any competition there. It's their most mature, best songwriting, really just the perfect fall record.

    yup

  3. no TDS record every carries any weight for me after a few months. i just get bored of it.

well see how this one feels in september.

Really? I find it almost opposite. The lasting value of TDS releases is amazing to me. It's difficult to "show TDS to a friend" because it does sound pretty run-of-the-mill at first listen. War Paint, for instance, I think is a gem as whole. The onslaught of drummy choruses and almost lack of dynamic from beginning to end is a lot of what makes it beautiful. It took me a whiiiiillle to love that record. Golden Record has hit me harder on the first few listens, but it'll just keep getting better. As I catch on to more harmonies, subtle strumming patterns, drum fills, and especially the heartfelt lyrics, I always grow to love anything TDS more and more and more.

not totally sold on the raspy vocals yet. none of the songs really stood out on first listen but catholic girls, sins and honesty grew on me pretty quickly. even if this ends up being my least favorite album i still really like that they tried something different but still distinctly the dangerous summer.

I do love how distinctly the dangerous summer everything they put out is. It's amazing how close this band hangs out to the normal, average, pop-rock band, but truly sounds nothing like it.

  4. Anyone know the color of hot topics Homesick variant?

Edit: it's solid orange. Might finally pick it up.

So the "solid orange" I got isn't one of the variants. Do we know what they're calling the color of this HT variant is? It's gotta be grey putty or red putty. Assuming we're looking at Red Putty, but it's not the least limited variant, which would presumably be the one that goes to retail. Thoughts?

Edit: I see it on Victory's page. "Orange Putty /1000" Part of the 2nd pressing, right?

  5. Citizen did not sound quite like that before Youth. As someone said on the last page, his production has a very distinct muddy sound to it as of late. It is prevalent on all of the recent albums from the band I mentioned even with the bands themselves sounding kind of the same.

The new Balance And Composure song certainly sounds a lot more like Daylight and Turnover than they did on Separation.

I think your confusing the production with what the bands just sound like by themselves.

    LOL, oh you.

I feel like you guys are both just enough right. I mean, only a few people were around to know what these songs may have sounded like pre-yip, so I can't say for sure. But it's definitely true that Citizen's sound changed from album to album (doubt that was 100% the band with no production influence). Also true that you can tell who produced the new B&C song without being told. Just some thoughts.

  6. just went and relistened to that collapsible lung song that the guy up top raved about in the review. ugh. in no way does this save the record. even with the "redeeming" lyrics, it still sounds like some weird band that has a one-hit wonder for 3 weeks and is never heard from again (except not that good). I can't stand when bands I love release stuff this far from what I want because I make myself listen to it to stay caught up on the discography.
