  1. I think it's crazy how amazing that song is, yet LP prices are so dang high that we're considering not buying this. Even myself--War Paint is an album I've listened to more than probably any other record in the past year and a half, but dude $20 is steep in this situation. Forget how TGG sounded, do you not remember War Paint?!?!?! The only truly unlistenable record I have (on coke bottle clear... the black is actually fine). Plus it's flimsy and the packaging is as standard (read: boring) as it comes. Any chance of HT? Don't think the other two did?

All that said, no way in haaaeeeeeeellllll I won't buy this on vinyl. :)

Also, says 175 left on every preorder bundle that includes the LP (as well as LP only item).

  2. LOL at everyone who thinks that the "hey, it happens anyway so don't be mad at just Adam" is a normal/kind type of post. Guess we've just given up on ethics entirely.

You must not make a living doing this, and therefore have no stake in the outcome. The point that Jeff made, being that Adam claims to be a record label and then not only stole the album, but knowingly added to the spread of that leak is a clear indication of his integrity as a label or guy who sells music, and is deserving of criticism. You can try to draw a million correlations to the stream, the state of music, or divine intervention as to why certain album sales are what they are digitally, but you can certainly not refute that what Adam did (like many others do) didn't help that cause. Spotify is $10 a fucking month, how are people still going to itleaked.

I don't listen to this band, so this will be my only contribution to this thread.

It's not the content of that "normal/kind" post, just the tone. Yours too. It's well put, makes sense, isn't brash, makes a point. Always a fan.

  3. This will be quite a story, So I'll add a Tl;dr for you guys :P

I have been collecting LP's for well over seven years now. I used to hang out at the vinyl subreddit (at reddit..) and Everything was nice and all. I thought though, In the end -- that you were not really able to socialize that much with the people of the subreddit. It was only people posting pictures of their newly bought turntables, turntables they found at a flea market, turntables everyone should avoid & pictures of their latest LP purchase.

Not saying that it is a bad thing, but you never really could engage in a discussion there. There was this one guy who had gotten a Sun Ra LP (the magic city) and he simply asked "what is this?" He didn't know anything about the artist and thought he could get some insight from the members, instead he got slandered, and he got hated for not liking the music. I myself owning that album, do agree with his feeling to the music completely.

Either way -- I thought in the end that the forum was only hostile after seeing what went down in that thread. People would post pictures of an LP they had bought on their turntable and would be treated terribly for owning a budget turntable and that they shouldn't listen to vinyl at all, and so forth. I am really looking for a forum that is into socialising, talking music & willing to listen & learn.

So I used the power of google and i got here! :)

    TL;DR: Reddit subforum was bad.

    Welcome!

  4. Just listened to this once through, then tried to do it a second time but couldn't...definitely going to be a grower.  The melodies are much more subtle.

yeah good way to put it. not that it's sonically the same, but it reminds me of how I felt the first time I listened to dangerous summer - war paint all the way through. felt like I was bored but I had to be missing something. like nothing stood out but I kept listening cuz it felt like I should. I dunno.

  5. This is the first JEW album that I haven't liked upon first listen.

Yeah I think this is a great way to put it. It's almost impossible to judge how you'll feel down the road. We all have those albums that just grow and grow and grow for even years.

But he's right, if we're comparing apples to apples (first listens to first listens), I'm completely unimpressed. Wish I didn't have to say that.

Don't know if other people in this thread care about it, but, upon first listen, I'm more excited about The Maine's new stuff that just released today. Give it a shot.

  6. Came in to see about a stream...

    flame-war.gif

    4 millions points for this

To be fair he got it from what.cd, so he wasn't the initial leaker. And at least it was only a day before the band/label wanted to put the entire album stream up, could've been another month early leak like Daylight or TWIABP. Not trying to make you guys not hate Adam (I'm aware that isn't possible), just trying to lighten the mood a bit. Get excited, everyone gets to hear this later today even if they don't want to seek out the leak!

I wanna jizz my pants every time I read such a normal/kind post like this on vc. dantheriver, I officially like you.

3,999,999 points for this. but only because you're competing with troy barnes.

  7. They're awkward, normal people, just like you or I. They're also high on marijuana almost all of the time.

I find your logic to be somewhat contradictory. You're essentially saying 'if you know them they're nice, and if you don't then they're not.' Do you really get to decide if someone is 'nice' or not without 'knowing' them? Some people are off putting or don't handle people/fan interaction in the most ideal way possible, that doesn't make them 'mean' or ill intentioned, it makes them normal.

Yeah, I mean good point for sure. In my interaction, I'm not judging if Zac's actually a nice guy or not by any means. I'd say (or at least hope) most people don't assume they're general jerks just if they have a weird fan interaction, especially not ill-intentioned. But, on the other hand, it never hurts to be on your best behavior in front of potentially judging fans who make or break your business, ya know? You'd just kinda assume that you'd do everything you could to be even nicer than you usually are when people are watching.

  8. I smoked with them a few times. this was a couple years ago when they weren't tumblr famous. they were cool, not very helpful when we tried to leave the backstage area cause it was a maze, but generally nice regardless.

Now, I may be wrong, but I'm just GUESSING that they PROBABLY treat a cute 20-something lady a WEE BIT different than us dudes. :)

  9. I've known them for a long time and I have never seen them even come close to being dicks.

I'd say that's probably because you know them. That's typically how it's gone from what I've read in forums and whatnot. If you know them, they're cool. If you meet them or just have an encounter with them, I've heard much different than cool. Again, just what I've heard. I bought Zac a drink out here in Seattle last time around and got a coy "Thanks, man." Wouldn't call it nice or mean.

I've never met the band so I can't speak about personal encounters, but I've definitely heard more stories about these guys being dicks than any other band in the scene.

Same here. I mean, it may be that the people we're hearing this from are dbags themselves, but still.
