I don't doubt the cost of licensing for a moment.
They do have a big goal to reach but it's not impossible. This is our chance to prove to Nintendo there is a legitimate market for their soundtracks on vinyl, or even just in the US. I'm not even particularly a fan of Mother, but I backed today. Vote with your wallets people.

Not shitting on his release. I supported it even if I wasn't totally a fan, and I backed the kickstarter. The things I've mentioned are simply a fair criticism of the approach that was taken to that project. It just strikes me as odd to see people complain that people will buy anything, and cite orchestrated video game scores and officially-sanctioned cover band tributes to cartoons as bad ideas in comparison to what would have been a $20 LP of tinkly midi renditions of emo tunes. Like I said, a lot of people probably don't care if it doesn't have any of the offending lyrics. Look no further than the fact that Kids Bop has proliferated in the children's music market, what are there, like 20-something volumes by now? Lots of parents really don't care if their kid is singing along to a song titled "N****z in Paris" or a song where they're innocuously blurring over the line "whatup, I got a big cock" to make it toddler-palatable. Personally, I'm not too crazy about the idea. It's okay if I'm the only one who's weirded out by that, it wouldn't be the first unpopular opinion I've had. But even I had to wait till I was 10 before I got my first Eminem CD.
We're all just here to share opinions, all of us can't agree on everything. Doesn't bother me what anyone else gets, and I don't judge. I'm just saying I'd sooner get my kid "Rockabye Baby: Milli Vanilli" than "Rockabye Baby: Cannibal Corpse"
agua, you're cool and one day you will get that red copy of TDAG. For retail too.

Yeah I feel you. One of the aspects of parenthood I'm looking forward to (not anytime soon, knock on wood) is getting to watch my kids discover their musical tastes, enjoying music and creating music. They're gonna inherit one hell of a record collection. Don't get me wrong, I love the lord savior and patron saint of VC, Jesse Lacey, just as much as the rest of us, I just don't personally think I would choose to lull my kid to sleep with Limousine or Noro. The Rockabye Baby series, for the most part, tends to lean towards artists and songs which overall exude a bit less negativity and darkness. I can see how many people might not care granted the lyrics aren't present, they're just harmless melodies, and would love to share those favorites with their kid, or keep themselves entertained during the stresses of parenting. If it were perhaps half the price, or featured recordings of actual instruments, I could have seen that going well over it's target. And I'd have backed it a little harder than I did, just to be supportive even if I personally would never use it as intended. it just eluded the interest of a lot of people for the reasons I stated above. Too much going against it rather than for it.
I'm glad you were able to offer a response a bit more thoughtful and conducive to discussion than "shut up."

It's cool supporting members here who are creative too, but seriously. I can't believe people were actually excited for that.
    1. $20 LP of Casio keyboard xylophones
    2. does your kid really need to hear Brand New songs? Doesn't that strike anyone else as a little weird to lull your child to sleep with soothing renditions of songs about death and despair? There's not a single positive song in their catalog, let kids be kids before they have to turn into cynical, miserable man-children. Listen to the itsy bitsy spider for 20 minutes or some shit, or any of the Rockabye Baby sets, which are well produced and feature equally enjoyable melodies derived from songs which may be a bit more suitable for the task.
Neat idea. Poor execution. Didn't get funded. I can't believe anyone would hold that concept in a higher regard than this project.

This has nothing to do with making sure the creators get their money, that is not how music works, that is not how the law works, that is not how the world works. Maybe it should be how it works, but for decades past, and decades into the foreseeable future, it isn't.
This has everything to do with the content owners being paid for their property. Nintendo not owning these particular recordings probably made it much easier for a license to be obtained. The content owners have the right to allow who they choose, to use their content how they choose. It is completely irrelevant if they obtained ownership of that content by creating it or by signing a contract.
It's totally super cool and punk-rock to say "it's for the people! We can create what we want with this. I can sell it as I please. The money should be going to the guy who wrote these songs"
But that is not the way things work. The Easter bunny isn't real either, sorry.
Just because the music isn't owned by who you wish owned it doesn't give you the right to bootleg it, nor does it give you a reason to discredit the work done by others to the fullest extent of the law.
If you're this salty about an official, properly licensed release, simply because it competes with your illegal product, maybe you should just make a margarita with it, and reconsider things. Chill.

I don't know how much of this can be attributed to groovewear, but the copy I briefly owned sounded like absolute garbage - it was misgraded by a Discogs seller who "only played it once", neglected to mention it was on a Crosley though. So there was a moderate amount of persistent surface noise, and underneath that the audio was quite distorted.
If that distortion is not inherent in the cut itself, then you will be hard pressed to find a copy of the original without it unless it is sealed. It seems that nearly every person who owns this record owns a Crosley as well, if any tumblr/instagram picture I've ever seen of this record is any indication, or going based on people I know who own it.
Unless specific details about the remastering process are given I wouldn't expect this to sound any better or worse. Not that it really could sound much worse. That said, it's easier to take a $40 chance than a $400 chance.
I understand your concerns, but this is far from an audiophile recording. If you're expecting to be blown away and amazed by hearing this on wax, don't.

    Possibly. That said,
Can't say I'm the biggest fan of the game as I've never played it, my knowledge of the series goes so far as SSB. Which probably isn't very much. But I definitely support the work that is being done here and I'll be sure to back the kickstarter when it goes up and snag the record.

1st ed. U.S. Take Off Your Pants & Jacket CD with Yellow Pants design. Not vinyl but yeah there's enough Blink fans here I guess so why not.
The red green and yellow CDs all have different bonus tracks at the end of the album, after 182 seconds of silence. These were available upon release for a short time and were soon replaced with the standard version which had the 3 colored dots on the disc. I had the red, I had the green. Now all I have is the yellow.
Recent check of ebay&Discogs shows NO copies of this available for sale
Will trade for the Brand New "Sowing Season" CD single. Or $25 in my PayPal.

I know, and I completely agree. It just stings to see this whole situation blow up like this, I wouldn't wish it upon anyone here. I just wanted to remind people that he's still a person not so different from any of us who have a passion for the music and perhaps we should all personally take some extra thought before choosing to vilify him.
