  1. Bit of a weird thread because I have most things but curious to see if folks have stuff they might be looking to move. I never bought Era because it sort of sucks and is still available but I do need that one.

Otherwise if people are willing to part with things at a reasonable rate let me know. I don't really have much to trade save a seafoam copy of Baroness blue.

  2. I don't think the Sox will spend big here. I'd be shocked to see them commit a lot of money to anyone this off season, especially in this situation.

But Theo is now spending Cubs money. Not the Sox.

Fuck. I'm still not used to seeing Epstein and not immediately thinking Sox.

  3. if i recall correctly Matsui is a 500 hr hitter when you factor in the japanese numbers... he was also a beast over there.. multiple time mvp winner, and i think he would have been the highest paid player ever in japan if he hadn't left to come to the US. Ichiro is great.. but he's more of a pete rose archetype of a player... matsui was a prototypical power hitter

It's Apples to Oranges. Plus it ignores context of the players contributions in a team setting.

  4. But I did hear that the Cubs are now in the bidding. Theo Epstein had the highest posting bid in major league history for a Japanese player when he posted $51 million before being able to negotiate with Daisuke Matsuzaka. You think he'll go in just as hard for Darvish?

  5. My opinion, and others may disagree, is that technical specs don't matter that much and are highlighted to shorten product life cycles. However, manufacturers are important, but Samsung, Sony and even Sharp I think have great sets.

The size question is contextual. Is it going on a huge wall, I'd try to get a 42" otherwise it will appear pretty small. If it is going on a stand, I think you can go smaller. I try to think about the size for the space, not size generally.

Also, this I promise, it will look much bigger when you get it out of the store and into your home.

  6. I don't really know much about Darvish. What is to make me think he won't be the next Kei Igawa or Dice-K? Seems like the bust rate on Japanese pitchers is pretty high. Would rather my team just stuck with talent from North and South America.

Sure does seem that way. I wonder how much of a merchandising revenue stream the open up in Eastern markets.

Rumor today, as Travis said, is the Blue Jays may have made a big ol' offer. It would be interesting to see the Blue Jays pick him up, they have done a decent job building recently.

  7. It's surprising how much you can make drawing fictional characters although not enough to afford me any more than 1 to 3 records every few months after I get my bills paid.

This brings up a more interesting question, at least to me.

How many records per month do ya'll buy? I'm around 10 or 11 a month unless I grab something pricey, in which case I'll go 5 to 6.

  8. You could also try Virb.com. I'd be an advocate for the template route.

I say this with all due respect, but anyone who is willing to do this for you for free probably isn't going to position you favorably in the marketplace. You could get lucky with some hungry, really talented, recent graduate but most self-respsecting designers are not going to leap at this opportunity.

  9. This thread seems to have the same split consensus of other things I've read. Some people think it prevents ring wear, others do not. Like dreamover stated I've got to figure that if your records are packed tight enough to create significant ringwear then storing outside the vinyl isn't going to change this.

Seems like thicker (say 4mil) sleevs would do more to prevent this than anything else.

Has anyone come across a definitive answer?

  10. Worst format ever. No tracks, lose their quality over time, can malfunction easy... what's the appeal?
it's coming back bro get into it . AND it's limited. the whole revival is just a gimmick & people are gullible enough but hey as long as someone get's enjoyment out of it

This and this. Vinyl never quite left because it was always considered to be a superior sound format. Now that physical media is no longer necessary CD's are going the way of the dodo so anyone who enjoys collecting and owning physical media are swinging back to vinyl and joining those that never left.

Tapes offer none of those benefits. If you like having them then go right ahead, but I wouldn't expect them to hold value.

  11. reminds me about how much i want the Red Fang album on 180 gram black. the color pressing was shitastic.

Good to know. You just saved me $20.

Not to derail the thread to much but they played a headline act in my town between Mastodon dates and holy fuck, they slay live. Really, really tight and they get a rad heavy sound out of their gear, I could see where a nice vinyl pressing might make a difference.

OK, sorry, return to bitching about Relapse.

  12. They make me ashamed for having dreadlocks.

THAT's what did it? I kid, I kid...

I'm no fan of any of this shit, but I do wonder why people single out this one dude to hate on. In every genre there are artists that are a terrible fucking representation of their respective styles. If you ignore them, they just might go away...

If you really want to hate someone, hate these fuckers.
