    Kitchener, Ontario has a bunch of hockey boys. Mike Hoffman, Tanner Pearson went to my high school and played on my age's AAA team but he was 3 years younger. Mark Scheifele, Kevin Klein, Kyle Quincey's brother went to my trade school. Scott Stevens was here before he was ending careers. Cool when it's playoffs and shit and they announce your hometown during the opening ceremony.

    I actually like how the Blues are structured. Barbashev coming up has been great, they're really missing Fabbri who has been phenomenal. Jaskin is solid depth and Parayko has made losing Shattenkirk not nearly the problem it looked like it was going to be two years ago. My only problem with the team is I've never understood the blind devotion to Jake Allen. I just don't see what the the team sees in the guy. He's been with the big team for three years now and never impressed. 

     

    This will be the first year in my life there hasn't been Red Wings playoff hockey.

    Anyone looking to add a new preamp to their setup? I'm looking to sell my Universal Audio 4-710D preamp. Can blend tube and solid state, 4 inputs, the DI is great. I think I saw someone post in this thread that has one too? Mine has less than 50 hours of use, just bought a second Great River preamp so I'm selling this to try and make back some of the money. Looking for $2000 CAD so if you're in the US that's just under $1500 USD. Open to talking numbers more.

    How'd your xmas go? What'd you get? What did you get for people? 

    I got:

    - Mittens knit by my wife

    - Dune novel

    - two hockey books

    - Red Wings jersey

     

    Got my dad a Bose bluetooth speaker, my wife earrings and a shirt she wanted, sister some jewellery and her boy friend a TC Electronics reverb guitar pedal. 

     

    Christmas day was a bit of a bummer. Wife was really sick and she's 7 months pregnant so it required an emergency room visit just to be safe. Been lounging all day crushing Netflix and eating pizza. World Junior championship starts tomorrow though, STOKED. 

     

    How's yours going?

    I feel it could have benefited from cutting a few songs that seem to drag (Carrie Ends The Call, Quiz Night...), but other than that, I really love most of the songs. Those 4 opening songs are just perfect, in my opinion. And this is coming from someone who couldn't really get into Provincial.

    Biggest critique is it's way too long. If it was 10 songs instead of 15 I think there's a solid record there. It seemed like he had 15 songs, recorded 15 songs and just pressed a record. Songs 1-7 there's cohesion, I'm into it, initially I thought I loved the record because of this tactic. But then you listen more and overtime it gets to Vampire Alberta Blues and I just want to turn it off. I think that's the worst John K./Weakerthans song ever released. VPW 13 Blues I think is awful too, it just seemed like that back half was full of partially formed ideas that they laid down anyways. 

     

    This also gets magnified because i think he is one of the best song writers I've been lucky enough to see and listen to, so my bar is high. Every Weakerthans/John K. record has a song for me as well that just blows me away and reminds me of the the power this guy has with a song. On Provincial it was The Last And, it's Left & Leaving, it's The Reasons. This record I felt didn't have that. So when I say it's a let down, I don't mean I hated it. I just expect a lot more than "meh" from anything John K. at this point
