  1. Every Day and Every Night almost ended up needing to use scans of the old jacket and insert. We had the cover, but the other files were missing. We ended up finding an old Iomega "Jaz" disc (anyone old enough to remember those? $100 for 1GB) and it had to be sent off to this forensic computer place in California to get the files off. Nightmare. Letting Off and Every Day are on discogs.com now. Just have Fevers and No Beginning left to enter there. There's some info about what is different between the OG and repress for each title. Some have more differences than others. I think you guys are going to really like the Fevers repress. I'm looking at one right now and I think it turned out great. The tip on jackets and 2LP make it feel really solid. One thing that's interesting, for anyone who can compare to an OG of Fevers, the new jackets are much more color accurate. Stoughton switched from film to direct-to-plate, and the result is much less yellow. The originals weren't actually supposed to be that yellowed, it was due to something with the film process that's corrected now. This looks more like the actual wallpaper.
  2. I had a video disc player for a few years, along with a hundred or so discs. Picked it up at a thrift store while I was going through my 80s nostalgia freak-out phase. This is arguably the best way to watch Teen Wolf or Caddy Shack. The technology is intriguing, but boy do these things suck. The mechanics inside are incredibly complicated and the machine weighs a ton. They use a motor driving rubber wheels to draw in the entire plastic case, spit the empty case out, load the disc, and start playback. The discs can get skips in them just like LPs, and when it skips the movie jumps around or freezes up. The tiniest amount of dust can cause skipping, which is why they engineered the player to remove the disc from the case for you. There is a stylus that actually does ride in a groove like a turntable. But the grooves are insanely small. You can barely even see them when you look at the disc. Like seancore said, quality is okay... better than VHS but worse than Laserdisc or DVD. It's an interesting curiosity, but that's about it. I really wanted to have one of these hooked up to an early 80s front projection big screen, in a room with nothing made past the late 80s. (Those TVs that had the red, green, and blue lamps out in front, projecting on a screen) Something like a retro entertainment room. But I got married and my wife vetoed the shit out of that idea... EDIT: One of the more interesting discs I had was "Urgh, A Music War" which featured live performances by Dead Kennedys, Echo and the Bunnymen, Gary Numan, and a bunch of other.
  3. i believe the colors are RSD exclusive and then after that it will be in print on more than likely just black. The yellow/white/black marbled vinyl is RSD exclusive, limited to 1500 copies and won't be repressed on that color again. Shortly after RSD it will be released on translucent yellow, which is not limited. It will probably stay in print on that color. So if you don't care about limited edition or color variation, don't freak out about getting the RSD version, you'll be able to get the other version later. The marbled vinyl is going to look sweet, though, I'm pretty sure Both versions are being pressed at RTI, who also did the marbled vinyl for the limited versions of I Am Gemini and People's Key by Bright Eyes. Will be standard weight vinyl, since going 180 gram would have made the list price ridiculous for an EP.
  4. We definitely agree, we're all big fans. The problem is just that they don't have the biggest fan base, and it would take a really long time for a pressing to sell through. Not saying it won't ever happen, but I don't think it's likely unless Jake gets the band back together and is willing to play some shows. That's a possibility at some point, I'd guess. Not that everything is solely a financial decision... we've pressed plenty of things on vinyl that are guaranteed to lose money. But it hurts the band if it takes a release years and years to recoup. I'm hoping the trend towards vinyl continues to increase, and it eventually becomes a lot easier to justify represses (or initial pressings) of bands/titles that don't move tons of copies. Vinyl sales were up 40% last year, and I really want that to continue.
  5. Believe it is just US. Sorry, I was wrong. Sounds like we are going to sell some to Cargo Germany and some other EU distributors. ADA UK could theoretically order some from us but they haven't yet. If ADA UK places an order, retailers should be able to get it from them. Hope this helps.
  6. will this be available for uk/euro rsd or just US? Believe it is just US. Nevermind--see below
  7. Yeah, new plates. Songs will be split up, instead of repeating on both sides. It will play at 45rpm. And actually, none of us could even remember why the original press was done that way. We looked at it and thought "huh, that's weird..."
  8. The record store day version is limited edition and is yellow, white, black marbled vinyl. It will be kept in print after that, but as non-limited translucent yellow (yellow only, not marbled). Both of these versions will be 12".
  9. You mean these releases: • Icky Blossoms Babes b/w Chicas 7" (1000 copies, colored vinyl) • Pujol Reverse Vampire b/w Psychic Pain (Home Demo) (1000 copies, colored vinyl) • The Mynabirds Generals b/w Fallen Doves 7" (1000 copies, each numbered) Cursive Burst and Bloom EP (yellow, white and black marbled color vinyl--1500 copies) My only question is this...on the one sheet for the 7"s it said it was "random mixed colored vinyl", does that mean there is one color for the Pujol 7" or mulitiple colors? Such as 300 on red, 400 on blue, 200 black, etc.? Okay, this counts as someone else spilling the beans The "randomly mixed colored vinyl" is something that United is offering. It's actually just a bunch of random vinyl colors that they have on hand. Whatever gets mixed into the press. We did the Pujol 10" this way. They have it on sale right now, so it's actually cheaper than plain black. It may not be the most attractive vinyl color combo ever created, but I think it's at least more interesting than just black.
  10. Go on... Wish I could... I'll have to wait until someone else leaks the info or it's announced. Just following orders.
  11. I think that's like Oscar Meyer being the "official hot dog of baseball" or something. They have some kind of marketing deal worked out, that's all. We didn't use them for any of our RSD releases.
  12. Okay, heard back from Matt. He clarified that the white and yellow cover versions WERE pressed at the same time. Just different covers. He wasn't 100% sure on the total quantity. It was either 100 white/200 yellow or 200 white/300 yellow. I'll try to do some more digging to make sure about the quantity, but I think it was 500 total. All one pressing though for the photocopied covers on Lumberjack. The Conor photo cover on Saddle Creek is the 2nd and final pressing.
  13. Are you not getting enough attention? I'm not sure I can help.
  14. Yeah, if they are sitting on 200 orders for four in-stock copies, it might be time to think about implementing a real time inventory system linked to their store. The fact that they didn't have a disclaimer about the free shipping getting revoked, or give me a warning that 92% of my order was out of stock before they charged my card, is what annoys the hell out of me.
  15. Their response: "Dear Sir, We want to keep you as a happy customer, and so we will agree to credit your card in the amount that you were charged provided that you refuse the package sent to you from Acoustic Sounds, Inc. Please understand that you were to receive a record at less than half our cost and that the $7.45 shipping rate you were charged is approximately what it costs for us to ship that record to you. You certainly were receiving a fair and favorable price. Should you place any more orders through this ongoing Sale of the Century, it's important that you understand very clearly that this is a first-come, first-serve, while-supplies last sale. The customer response has been unprecedented. We are doing our absolute best to process the deluge of orders in a chronological order as they come in. In some cases, we may have some 200 orders for an item for which we only have four copies available. As such, there could be instances in which an item you've ordered is no longer available by the time your order is processed. Going forward, we will insist that any sales to you via this advertised Sale of the Century be final. I hope that you are satisfied with this response and that you will consider further shopping with Acoustic Sounds. Sincerely, Nate Lennox Acoustic Sounds, Inc." ....Don't worry, there won't be any future orders for you to worry about.
  16. Yeah. Standard. Only difference is the vinyl weight in that case. We've kept the lyric insert the same as far as I know. And later ones would have an mp3 download card and a different label catalog.
  17. Yeah I figured. I got a first press green long ago, and have no idea if its any different from the new press. Not like its a big deal - just curious. Is your green on standard weight vinyl or 180? Standard weight green was first, then 180 green.
  18. That's high on my list to figure out, but it's also one of the more complicated ones. As far as Discogs is concerned, I never know how to handle splitting out more than one version from a single listing. You're going to end up leaving a lot of people listed as owning a version that they don't. Same with Rilo Kiley.
  19. I emailed them. I told them I wanted to cancel the order. If they won't I'm going to refuse the package and try to do a charge-back on my card. Same here, I'll never order from them again.
  20. Despite only getting 1 of 12 items, I would have been only slightly irritated if they had given me free shipping on the 1 LP, since I originally had the required $60 in my original order. But this is way over the line into bullshit world.
  21. So not only were they out of stock on 11 of the 12 LPs I ordered, they charged me $7.45 shipping on the one LP, even though I had no way to know that almost 92% of my order was out of stock. I'll be canceling my order and refusing the package. I'm not happy with this company at all.
  22. That's possible (one pressing on yellow with two xeroxed covers, and one on black with the conor/mask cover). Matt Maginn made it sound like there were two pressings with the xeroxed cover though, just waiting to hear back from him. Things were weird back then... sometimes we'll think "there's no way that's what happened" and then find out it was. I agree, that seems unlikely though. Here's what Matt said: "I believe the first pressings were done by Clint and I and I think we did 500 total. 200 in white sleeves and 300 in yellow sleeves. Not sure why it happened that way. Other then we did white first to be cheap and then realized we could do colored paper so switched to that for the next 300? I think it was possibly all yellow or might be the first batch was black." I read that to mean that there were two distinct batches/pressings, where the first could have been black. (I think all xeroxed covers were clear yellow, though). Maybe I'm misreading him. I'll let you know what he says.
  23. Ha. Thanks dudes. A Saddle Creek pressing database has been on my to-do list for a few years. It just never seems to slow down enough to tackle it. I'm going to do it for sure though, hopefully when the current round of upcoming releases is done. The bad news is that some of the really old info has gone missing... old invoices got lost, etc. But there is still a lot in the files, and the bands can sometimes remember what was pressed. I'm thinking that even an incomplete database would be better than nothing. There have been variations on some records, like Ugly Organ or Rilo Kiley's Execution that aren't documented on discogs. I'd like to get all that sorted out, in addition to finding pressing quantities for old titles.
  24. Okay, I got some info on this. I'm waiting for a bit of clarification, so this isn't 100% certain yet. Mainly I'm not sure yet if the white and yellow covers were two separate pressings, or just variations within the same pressing. Waiting to hear back and I'll post again when I do. But we're pretty sure there were 200 white covers and 300 yellow covers, all on clear yellow vinyl.... just not sure if they were issued at different times. Source: I work for the label. (1st pressing on Lumberjack) WHITE xeroxed cover not sure of date edition of 200 clear yellow vinyl (2nd pressing? on Lumberjack) YELLOW xeroxed cover not sure of date edition of 300 clear yellow vinyl (3rd pressing on Saddle Creek) Conor in mask photo cover 10/28/97 edition of 1000 black vinyl pressed at United jackets at Dorado EDITED TO ADD: I'm trying to get my hands on a yellow cover copy to compare with my white one. I'm 99% sure the run-off inscriptions and labels will be totally identical, as they wouldn't have made new lacquers or stampers even if they were pressed separately in quantities of 200 and 300. So even if the white and yellow cover versions were pressed separately, they would be indistinguishable except for the covers. I would be wary about paying more for the white one. Not that anyone would be so dishonest as to photocopy their own white cover, of course....
  25. I ordered 12 records, and they shipped ONE. ONE LP out of 12 was in stock. What a waste of time.
