  1. I bought it from the ca site and I live in California. Exchange rate is practically similar, after shipping I'm at about $40. Wondering if I will reap the benefits of the price difference, or if I actually won't get sent one because I'm in California. Anyone know?
  2. Love Coheed. Not sure I like this album enough to pay for the vinyl. Dumb question: Vinyl is not like CD's or DVD's where versions written or pressed in other countries won't play here, right?
  3. Wait. So if Amazon does a preorder to give them a scale of demands (which is what apparently jaba was referring to), why would they end up not getting enough stock to cover the preorders? If (as it keeps being said) they do a preorder to get an idea of demand, why would they then decide to not make enough anyway? "Let's do a pre-order to see how many records people need, then let's make less than have actually been pre-ordered so some pre-orders aren't fulfilled." That makes no sense.
  4. ^Same here. However I would much rather them take their time and do it right than rush and mess some other part of it up. I'm not sure anybody said otherwise. And that's fine, except I ordered through Cinderblock to get the bundle. Is this true?
  5. I'm fine if they use presale money before they have a product to fund the pressing. But what's always peeved me is they wait until 10 DAYS before the Vinyl is supposed to be in my hands to finally let me, who ALREADY PAID, know that they're going to be delayed. It's bullshit. These guys probably knew at the end of September/beginning of October that they weren't going to be done. Tell us then. Don't wait until the last minute to be all "oh, uh, we just found out we're not going to make the deadline." Except they don't care. They already have my money. Terrible business practices. "It takes longer to put the set together than we thought..." Really? So when did you actually START putting the sets together to find this out? Last week? It's also dumb that they can't give us a future date for when they expect them to be done. They can give a date for a release a month ago, but suddenly they can't give a date for how long the delay will be? Let's just hope they do it right. We don't need another Alchemy Vinyl debacle: and neither does Thrice.
  6. Is vinyl really getting more popular? Is this what is driving up the prices? It almost forces me to buy double of new copies...one to play, and one to keep unopened to sell later. It pays for itself. Really pretty crazy what people will pay for some vinyl. But hell, they're cool! And I've spent $200+ on one andI never thought I would!
  7. $48 after shipping for a poster, shirt and CD bundle. I'm gonna have to think about this one.
  8. The kicker: "All profits for the sale of this book will go to fund my electric car company. It will be the first affordable electric car cheaper than a gasoline powered car." Gold.
  9. Or like I said, someone who wanted to test the waters to see how much people would bid, but didn't actually want to get rid of it. Setting a ridiculous reserve of $1000 would almost guarantee it wouldn't sell. But if it did, hell, who wouldn't be okay with letting go of it for that much...
  10. Did. Reserve still not hit. This guys just trying to see how much people are willing to pay without actually selling it...
  11. Only a couple more hours. Price is up to $285. I am the highest bidder at $300 and the reserve still isn't met. Thinking about upping it to $350 but I'm pretty sure the reserve still won't be met.
  12. Does this mean it's not going to sound good? Noob here. I was going to purchase this but not if the quality isn't there. $20 w/ Amazon Prime shipping is just too good to give up.
  13. This is the NON-USB direct drive turntable from Audio-Technica. I got one for $160. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00012EYNG/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00 If I was into vinyl years ago or was made of money now I would of course buy the Technics SL-1200 because it looks like a beautiful machine, automatic and all. But the prices are just too ridiculous. How much did this thing cost a couple years ago when it was new? I can't imagine more than $500. But $1300 for a new one? I. Just. Can't. Here's the link with the prices. I mean, $400 for one in "good" condition. Can't do it. http://www.amazon.com/TECHNICS-SL-1200MK2-Automatic-Stereo-Turntable/dp/B00006I5VX/ref=sr_1_5?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1349807792&sr=1-5&keywords=technica+1200 So, my point of the thread, does anybody have the Audio Technica PL-120 that I bought? Any advice on a stylus? I am planning on buying a pre-amp instead of using the one in the TT, I'm hoping that increases the quality of the sound. I was bummed about the vintage Sony (see PSP 212 thread) I bought and didn't want to deal with any more issues. This one is adjustable, and quartz so RPMs will not be a problem. Also, this is my first turntable and I didn't want to break the bank. The ONLY downer I have about this TT is it is not automatic, so it does not reset after the vinyl is done playing. Considering all the other nice things about this table and it's price, I think I can live with that for now. Any comments or feedback appreciated. Thanks!
  14. Alright just for future reference for anyone who googles this problem and comes upon this forum. If you have this Sony PS-212 turntable and want to adjust the tone but can't find any other sources for information, I found this and it seemed to help. http://www.vinylengine.com/turntable_forum/viewtopic.php?f=23&t=49905 Question in case link gets broken: "I am running out of adjustment for the 33rpm control on the deck. I have noticed that the motor control board underneath has two sets of adjustable resistors - RV1/RV3 and RV2/RV4. Anbody know if these are related to the speed controls on the top of the deck and if so which one does what?" Answer: "those variable resistors are for adjusting speed. RV1 and RV2 are for 33rpm; RV2 and RV4 are for 45rpm. RV1 and RV3 are the "customer adjustments" accessible to the user, while RV3 and RV4 are for service personnel. Set RV1 and RV3 to their center positions, then adjust RV2 and RV4 for correct speeds using the strobe. If you feel up to it, you might plan on changing out all the electrolytic capacitors on the board in the future. If your GT35P runs at constant speed, you're OK for now, but as one or more of the capacitors age, you will first hear flutter, followed by extreme speed instability. I haven't figured out which one is the culprit; I've just replaced all of them." So I adjusted all 4 of these knobs, put the RV1 and RV3 to "center" and adjusted RV2 and RV4 accordingly and "wah lah!" my 33 RPM speed is now perfect. Unfortunately my 45 RPM speed won't go fast enough no matter how much I adjust it. I am returning the unit because I'm not going to deal with a non-working unit as soon as I get it. I'm also not going to start putting money into, as well as unsoldering and soldering a 35 year old unit. Just not worth it to me. Sorry for the long winded double post, just wanted to get a solution out there for anyone in the future.
  15. Yeah...pretty much all four albums from Adrenaline to Self Titled are flawless, IMO. Really, one of my favorite bands of all time. My friends get sick of hearing me play them in bars and in the car. "Dude, there's no girls around for you to bang right now why are you playing this sex rock?!" lol
  16. Oh yeah well every Rancid show I've been to in the last 17 years hasn't sold out so ha.
  17. Something tells me that their fan-base hasn't expanded significantly over the past decade. So to continue making money, they need to continue making over-priced unnecessary products for their fans to buy.
  18. I wouldn't say that each album is better than the last, but I am a big fan of the Deftones and I'm glad these guys are still making music. Saw them live in Detroit last year and they were spectacular.
  19. A decade or so ago a friends older brother let me borrow this CD (and ONLY the CD) to burn from him. He bought it directly from the band back in the late 90's. For some stupid fucking reason because I was fucking stupid, I put it in the back pocket of my jeans, forgot about it, sat on my couch and *SNAP!* the thing split in half. I felt terrible about it the second it happened, and feel even more terrible about it now. I want to buy this for him to surprise him with an unsnapped copy, but Jesus, $700+? I don't know if I should spend that kind of loot right now, but I really feel like I should to make up for the mistake I made a long time ago. Guess I have 2 days to decide. But if that reserve is $1000 there's no way.
  20. Hi everyone. I purchased a beautiful Sony PS 212 direct drive turntable from the 70's for a great deal, but have been having an issue with the speed that it spins. This model has the red light on the left to check the timing of the RPMs according to the ticks on the platter. Picture below. Now maybe I understand incorrectly, but I believe the ticks are supposed to stay SOLID based on the Hz (which is 60 in the US) and the selected speed. So in this case I keep my eye on the TOP line for 45, and the 2nd to top line for 33, and adjust the tone until the ticks look like they are not moving. Does anyone disagree? I cannot for the life of me adjust the tone enough to get the platter to spin at the correct speeds. I've taken off the bottom, cleaned up the tone knob, sprayed it with electrical cleaner, cleaned the speed knob, sprayed it with electrical cleaner. This is the only solution I've seen online, and it's done nothing to fix the problem. My last guess is that the knobs aren't working, the electrical components are too old, or the motor is shot. Does anyone have any experience fixing or having this (or similarly calibrated) type of record player? Maybe if they're prone to stop working, is there some way to fix it so it works? This machine has really been treated well, it's in very nice condition, so it's not like it's been beat up, and I like it A LOT. It's fully automatic, I love the look of the timing light and the spinning platter it looks old school, but is very cool. Unfortunately if I can't find a way to fix it I'm going to have to send it back and get my money back to eventually find one that works. I don't want to because this one is so nice, but there's no way I'm just going to have the thing sitting around taking up space if I can't play my records on it. If any of you have any ideas or can help, or can atleast give me an idea of what goes wrong with these things so I'm not completely in the dark, please let me know. I have a little less than 14 days to return it to the seller to get my money back, so time is of the essence. Many many thanks.
  21. How did you contact them for getting a discount on shipping?
  22. Yeah, I screwed up again. Shoulda bought it with my Dark Knight Rises vinyl when it was available. I always miss out on the ones that are valuable and buy the ones that are always available.
