  1. It's worth checking Earth 2 out, it's one of my favourite albums of that whole drone genre and I really got into it the first time I started listening to Mogwai actually. Like I say, it might not be for you but couldn't hurt to give it a try. The only Earth I have on vinyl was a gift from a friend - A Bureaucratic Desire for Extra-Capsular Extraction which is a collection of early Earth stuff from the first EPs and whatnot. It's from Southern Lord, and it sounds amazing, and comes in a beautiful sleeve, on clear vinyl. One of my favourite albums. Again, highly recommended. Bees Made Honey is great but I personally think that "era" of Earth has a limited lifespan, but then I have friends who rave about it so horses for courses I suppose. You should be able to see Earth stuff on Discogs for considerably cheaper prices. Basically, anything after "Pentastar" from 1996 is the quiter, more melodic stuff, so any of that stuff is worth a look if you're interested.
  2. Not a huge fan of EITS, but I heard them way way after I'd first heard Mogwai. The Mogwai album Happy Songs for Happy People is one of my favourite post-rock records, and that's with me not being a post-rock fan as such. My girlfriend bought The Earth is not a Cold Dead Place by EITS and all I could think was that it was like a less interesting Happy Songs... by Mogwai. She recently bought Happy Songs... on vinyl too, and it sounds great, so I would definitely recommend that despite what you might have heard by Mogwai before. If you're interested in that stuff it might be worth giving Earth a listen, but maybe avoid the 90's drone albums (I love them, but might not be necessarily what you're after), and go for the slower twangy stuff released in the 2000s.
  3. Are you in the US? If so, how much for int. shipping or is it not worth it?
  4. Good idea! I might try this at some point soon. Mostly need something portable to shift 45s and LPs around the place, so this sounds like a good option. I once saw a 12" box made from an old army ammunition tin. It looked great but can't seem to find it anywhere at the moment. Anyone seen anything like this?
  5. Diff'rent strokes I guess. My turntable isn't anything to shout about anyway (new house, bigger speakers, I'm poor) so it's probably better I photograph the records elsewhere
  6. I guess about 30-40% of my instagram friends regularly post vinyl/music related posts anyway, so don't think I'm spamming people that much. At least it's not pictures of food or reposted twee feel-good bollocks. Was thinking about a separate instagram account just for this kind of thing but AFAIK the only way to do that on your phone is to log in and out each time.
  7. Well, if the records are in a wall frame I can understand that they're probably not played. But I guess some people take the photos before/after they spin 'em. I do, anyway. There's more light on my table/shelf unit than there is near my turntable so the photos turn out better. I follow a few people on instagram/tumblr etc that take photos while the record spins and you can't see shit, just a blurry label.
  8. Yeah but... how can you tell people aren't listening to their records just because they took a picture? Taking photos of my stuff is all part of the physical/tactile attraction of collecting vinyl.
  9. Cool, thanks. The Odyssey case is nice! Anyone else use anything different?
  10. Yeah same here. Actually when I'm searching for things I want to post I'll pull out two or three to listen to that night.
  11. Hi This has probably been asked a thousand times but I couldn't find anything when searching so feel free to point me in the right direction. Any recommendations for soft or hard record bags or boxes? The only ones I see regularly are the curved corner aluminium carry cases but wondered if anyone had anything that was a bit nicer/different.
  12. Didn't realise playing the records/making videos was supposed to happen. I'm putting pictures up of collages of album sleeves or sleeve details as well as a picture of the record or label. Makes it neater I think but whatever
  13. Tempted by this but just got the Black One repress a month or so back so not sure I can stretch to another Southern Lord order shipped to the UK. What's the deal with these glass ornaments?
  14. Today my posts were Ugly American Overkill, an Amphetamine Reptile compilation from 1991 and the soundtrack to A Field in England by Jim Williams. Figured there'd be a lot of Drive soundtracks. Actually that will probably pop up more this month, there being coloured/picture disc versions, 2xLP, soundtrack...
  15. Really enjoying this, but it is a problem deciding between the albums that fit the theme of the day. Today's compilation/soundtrack will warrant two separate posts I think.
  16. Swans - April 2013 Bristol Colston Hall, UK Been a huge SWANS fan for years now so was super psyched when they put out My Father Will Guide Me up a Rope to the Sky in 2010 and I got to see them in Cardiff the following year. The 2013 gig in Bristol was mind-bending. It was a really long show, and it was amongst the loudest gigs I've ever seen. Pure furious energy throughout the whole set and being in the front row meant I got to take it all in my chest.
  17. Just saw a friend share this on instagram, so I'm up for it. It's a bit late but I'll catch up tonight. Forgot I had an account on VC actually but there's plenty of vinyl pictures on my instaccount if you wanna look. username is @caninesapien
