chiselrecords
CR-002 Edmonton - Walk It Off - LP Facts Tomorrow, Monday June 23, at 3:00 PM (EST), this lovely record goes up for preorder. This is Chisel Records' second release and we couldn't be happier about how this all worked out. Edmonton are four solid dudes from Gainesville, Florida that play earnest indie, emo punkish sounds. FFO: The Weakerthans, The Promise Ring, Superchunk, Prawn, American Football Pressing info: 200 Black / 100 Purple / 25 Super splatter (available from the band on tour) Preorders will be done in Canada via Chisel Records and in the US via Jeremy Records. You can win a test pressing of this record if you preorder it. (one for CAN, one for USA) Thanks for taking the time to read this! This is my favourite record right now and I urge you to take the time to listen to it. If you are into this sound, then these guys should be your new favourite band. Here is Edmonton's Bandcamp page if you would like to stream / download. http://edmonton.bandcamp.com/ (You will also be getting a download code emailed to you a day or two after preordering.) Make sure to check these dudes out on tour in late July. More details on this to be announced soon. They will also be playing The Fest in Gainesville this year and I am stoked to see them there. jerseydave77
So, I was in Gainesville for 36 hours recently for all the wrong reasons and I say to my friend a couple beers in "Who are the young band that are doing things right in this town of late" and he says "Edmonton". I make a quick stop at No Idea before leaving town to grab this record and yeah, it's pretty damn terrific. A bit raw, melodic, totally an earnest effort - it's what I love hearing, folks laying down some music that obviously means something to them and leaving it for all the hear. Buy this. Don't buy another shitty Brand New record or keep complaining about some band that is doing something shitty - these cats are doing it right. I later learn they are playing the benefit for the local radio station my friend is putting on that rose from the ashes of my Free Radio Gainesville days - awesome. Order, listen, be glad people still give a shit/
dethrock
I'm glad this got bumped. By far my favourite record from last year. It's seriously so good. Go and buy this people!
parkinglot
Do they have any ties to Edmonton? Or is that just a random name?
dethrock
Do they have any ties to Edmonton? Or is that just a random name? They're from Florida I believe, so I'm guessing it's random.
chiselrecords
Do they have any ties to Edmonton? Or is that just a random name? Mostly random but here's Kiiks from Edmonton had to say in an interview last year: What inspired the band name Edmonton? After we started the band and wrote some songs, we had a hard time coming up with a band name. Our guitarist, Rick, suggested Edmonton. I’m not very picky with band names, so I agreed. Later on, I found out Rick had a friend in Edmonton named Mike with a sick vegan food truck called Sailin’ On. It turns out that’s where the name came from. I actually met him during The Fest this year, and he’s a sweet dude. Talked about Cap'n Jazz and Orchid with him a few years back when I picked up their records. I see him at shows pretty often too. I actually just got home from the outdoor market that they set up at each week. Anyway, picked up a few records, including Edmonton's LP. Your prices are great, and $5 shipping is also cool, but with the 20% off coupon, you can't possibly be making any money. It would be super cool if you were able to distro recent Topshelf, RFC, Double Double Whammy, Deathwish and Tiny Engines stuff (etc), but I imagine it's pretty hard with where our dollar is at now. Thanks! EDIT: What was up with the 13% Alberta tax?
jerseydave77
Just heard the new 7" - it's a continuation if not progression from "Walk it Off". I think it's a stepping stone to a really good new album. I love what I've heard from this band so far and hope for some other-level shit in the future. jerseydave77
Damn I was hoping there were some leftovers after Fest but they sold out. This was my favourite album last year. It's good man. A continuation of what Walk it Off managed with a couple standouts. 5 song 7" isn't shabby either. I have high hopes going forward. (A friend snagged this for me at Fest)
