"Too much surface noise" as in the noise when the needle hits the record? I'm not even hearing anything during breaks in the songs or quiet parts. Maybe a tiny bit here and there, but nothing out of the ordinary. I'll have to listen to the standard weight version and compare but this sounds fine to me. If you wait that long the other ones might be gone so you might want to just order the blue and grey now. I might have to send the standard weight black ones back. I have no idea.
